On a daily basis, I see on this forums, in game and other social media people complaining about getting ganked, losing their ship or assets as consequence of their actions or decision, be them poor or good at least on the paper.
This has mainly the effect on me to make me wonder if it's a troll post, and if it's not why people were not prepared for that. After all EvE online has the great fame of being a merciless pvp game, be it crude spaceship pvp or economical warfare, or a mix of both (fights over moongoo are a thing)
This take me to another game I played since early dev stages, which is Darkest Dungeon. I found this game very hard, either because I'm not good at it, or it's really too hard. Going on social media and steam I found out also a lot of other people, reviewers, players and streamers had the same issues. However they all took this difficulty as a feature and not as a defect.
Why did this happen in DD and in EvE instead, let's say, getting blobbed, losing corp assets or being ganked in any ship (yes, the horror, not only miners get ganked in high sec) is the source of drama and disappointment.
Well, because DD creators spend literally 30 seconds to make this splash screen that shows up even before you reach the main menu:
DD Warning Sign
Why don't we have something similar in EvE? When you first launch the game and when you create your character, staying there for 10-15 seconds before entering the game? EvE propaganda on the site doesn't mention clearly you could and will in die in horrible ways and lose everything your worked so hard for.
When you reach the Eve online website you get told of "epic battle" and "economic warfare", of the living universe, of the updates that constantly flow in game, of the wonderful ships and the open ended game play. All of this is true, but I don't read anywhere about "your ship and your assets when destroy they stay destroyed".
Btw please don't take this as criticism or flame, it's not. It's nothing more than a suggestion, I believe being clear about this game from day 0 of the gameplay it's going to pay off playerbase wise.
P.s. Now I don't know if i can mention other games on this forum, and if I cannot I invite a mod to edit out the name with a "roguelike game". |

You know, this would be a very good idea if the people this was intended to reach actually read warnings.
Either it sits there and annoys people like me who don't need the warning, or you can click through it and the sheeple aren't going to stop to read it.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Hello, Mr Carebear. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

Actually I agree with the notion here.
Section 7 of the FAQ (which is a tome of a document btw which is why Newbros never read it) deals specifically with this and I think a better job could be done of informing new players of this particular quality of eve.

CCP have attempted to put warnings on the logon screen in the past. IIRC Burn Jita I had such a warning for weeks in advance; it was ignored, then people started crying about Jita being on fire
Civilized behaviour is knowing that violence is barbaric, but paying other people to do it is business.

Basically this.
I don't honestly disagree with the premise, but CCP has been trying to fix stupid for a long time, and it just doesn't work.

The reason you hear more people complain about this in eve is not the absence of a warning screen is just that more people play eve.
Most eve players do take it as a feature very few are upset by it but with anything you are more likely to talk about something your don't like rather than what you do no amount of warnings will change this

Tbh OP, most ganks could be easily avoided when the players woudl check local, don't afk, don't autopilot and gtfo out when they see a DD jumping into their direction aka use the focking D-Scan. But as always it's easier to come to the forums and whine about being ganked.
I am 100% sure, even with such a sign the usual suspects would carry not giving a "F" about the situation around would therefore continue to be ganked. As one other poster already said " You can't fix stupid."

You could try it. I imagine it wouldnt take much dev time. But it doesnt answer most carebear 'lies/issues'.
- 'Yeah i know EVE is a harsh game. But i dont like ganking and everyone who does it is a douche. Being a douche is illegal gameplay. Even though ganking has been around forever, its why the game has been struggling the last couple of years'
- 'Yeah i know EVE is a harsh game. But i dont like wardecs and everyone who does it is a psychopathic bully in RL and should be arrested or institutionalised. Even though wardecs have been around forever, they are why the game has been struggling the last couple of years.
- 'Yeah i know EVE is a harsh game. But CCP made it wrong and i've literally joined the game just to tell them that. Now im a paying customer i have the right to tell the devs what to do. Yes thats my entire argument'
And more recently: - 'Yeah i know EVE is a harsh game. But its been years since CCP said so. This obviously means they've changed their mind.'
One person has even said, AFTER reading the quote from the EVE FAQ in my sig, 'Thats what the problem with this game is'. No, you cannot patch stupid.

People feel like it doesn't apply to them because they're just grinding until they're ready to pvp. Just a few more years of mining veldspar and they'll be truly ready to start playing EVE. |

A lot of the forum posts will be gankers making alts to troll. Periodically you see them doing it to support their narrative and to further drown out legitimate concerns with the gameplay. Further, they don't tend to just gank much of the time, they taunt the target specifically to get a reaction.
In all games though there are going to be people that complain that things are unfair if they don't get exactly what they want. But there are legitimate issues with the ways the systems go together too. Responding to ganking is very much proactive rather than reactive for example. If you didn't know before you were ganked and therefore weren't prepared, there's nothing you can do to fight your way out and even worse, due to the use of alts and the disposable nature of the characters and ships used, there's nothing people can do afterwards either.
I don't think giving a warning would really help, as it would still be in the best interest of gankers to target the players who didn't heed the warning, they would still troll the people they got to rile them up and they'd still post pretend rage to defame the opposition.

Funny thing about EVE is it was supposed to be a gentle space opera about economics and giving the power to the player. It turned into a social experiment which revealed a lot about what players do when they have the power.
Since CCP embraced this grim new identity of their game long ago, I think it is high time they do a better job of broadcasting it. There are a few EVE trailers that touch upon it, but most of the intros spend more time on the lore and less time on what you can expect to find in the game. Since it's not a lore-heavy game, that's actually slightly disingenuous.
FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."
Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."
