CCP Goliath is one of the people who worked the hardest to put together the recent Dev Caravan events and now he's written a dev blog about our goals and our experiences which mostly consisted of dying horribly at the hands of people who really know how to play this spaceship game.
Thank you all for the fun and for the schooling. CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |

Are you sure that warm feeling wasn't from your overheated lasers on Friday?
I had a great time this weekend. Thank you to everyone who took part |

Very special thanks to those who helped develop the CCP Defense fleet. While the first day was a bit of a fail, I think we made progress in the next few events. Hopefully for any future PvP live event, we can have some system in place to get you guys to truly fight alongside us.

I have two very srsbusiness non-trolling (see: uncharacteristic) questions to ask of CCP.
Through your experiences PvPing with each of the races of EVE, have you come to better understand some of the balance issues present currently in EVE, and what are your feelings on said balance issues?
Secondly, were there any moments of enlightenment among those at CCP who are less experienced with PvP about how things like fleet composition and doctrine work?
CCP folks have now all had a chance to get their feet wet with each race, and experience the benefits and drawbacks of each, as well as an opportunity to learn a bit about fleet composition and doctrine, and I'd really like to know what the general feeling of the dev team is regarding game balance after having this experience.
Personally, I'd really like to see more variety in EVE with fleet doctrines. Over the past few years, I have seen PvP turn into mostly an exercise of bringing the EXACT ship or ships that a fleet doctrine is built upon. Part of the outcome of that is positive, in the sense that ships are diverse and some can do certain things decidedly better than others can, but part of that outcome is negative, because it leaves very little variety for the player. I love my Abaddon, but there are/were times where I got pretty sick of looking at it over and over again, because for PvP to work on the ELITE level of PL, fleet doctrines are very reliant on having EVERYBODY in the correct ships. Because there is so much range of performance of tanks and weapon systems between races and even tiers of ships within races, PvP is quickly becoming a very uniformed exercise.
I see in EVE a great attempt at keeping variety and identity between the races, but in practice I see it further stagnating variety by essentially forcing people to use specific ships for specific doctrines, because there is literally nothing else available that can do what the chosen ship for that doctrine can do. While races shouldn't ever become EXACTLY alike, there should be some middle ground somewhere where there is come crossover, so people aren't cornered into flying one specific ship or race of ships for a given fleet doctrine. |

Please, ignore the people who rage about missing this.
Continue to do it. It's unique and something that really can only be done in this game.
The only suggestion I have is that CCP Alliance actually start to function and act as one. Don't stop with simply roaming. Keep at what you're doing and go full force with it.
-Use your sov space -Grind the isk up to buy your ships -Build or purchase your ships. You guys need to see how the manufacturing is in EVE. -Run moon reactions to generate an income. -Create a reimbursement program and try to find ways to keep CCP alliance floating and it's member base happy.
etc. etc. etc...
Basically, play the game so you can experience our frustrations first hand.

The first fight in Tama was not incursion'd by CCP and guess what happened?
They got dropped by PL supers and titans, and decided to incursion and cyno jam all their future systems where they would be flying.

I did not manage to take part in these events, but CCP playing their game is a really good sign.
I hope you manage to run these events regularly, possibly every weekend, possibly in small gangs instead of a somewhat large fleet.
Keep up the good work!
P.S.: there are rumors about the CCP fleet shooting the pro-CCP player fleet. Is that true? |

All of the events where all out fun.
Thanks to CCP in general for doing this, extra for those taking part of the action, and extra kudos to the poor bastards trying to coordinate it.
And thanks to the naturally backstabbing, coldly calculating, devious spreadsheet mongrels that is known as players of EvE, with an extra thank you to the crew that worked with the crazy ragtag pubbie fleets.
Now, can anyone please give a relevant value of isk/fun so I can update my spreadsheets? ;)

Basically, play the game so you can experience our frustrations first hand. Disagree on the grinding, sov, building and what not... Why should they waste dev time on that? Some of them already play the game in their alliances, leave it at that.
But it's a good thing they're doing these events (and it should be just that, EVENTS), let's hope they continue to do so (and I might finally be there when it happens next time ;) |

Check the killboards, not only did they backstab their supposed defencefleet.
(Not to mention that the non-podding CCP fleet managed to pod Darius III, by mistake, or so they say)
There was also several 'accidents' of blue-on-blue.
Guard!
We still want the video from the Team BFF crisis meeting ...
