It's a bit like old vs new money in RL but we shouldn't turn our noses up at the sudden influx of ISK rich and now middling SP specced characters - no, we should embrace their good fortune, it's the only way to move forward.
To our new SP rich brothers and sisters; I'd like you to consider the prospect of Low Security space, it's a much maligned but opportunity rich area that's vastly under exploited considering the wealth available. There are many, many very quiet areas that will enable you to recoup your initial ISK investment into your character.
Now, I understand that you may be skeptical as you've heard nothing but stories of piracy, gatecamps, scams etc. And yes, a quick check on my history may show some very light involvement in a few of these activities. However, each has it's own story and I'm just a victim of circumstance, I just want to mine in peace. It cannot be said that I'm not a man of my word.
So, in the spirit of acceptance I'd like to offer a safe entry point into Low Sec for any new pilot that wishes to make it rich here. I will ensure you have a seamless transit from high to low, but I need to ensure interlopers do not exploit my generosity so I'll only consider helping those that have a reasonable asset/s to move in. Please bear in mind that I'm not offering any sort of hauling service, simply easy entry.
If you feel that you're ready to take the next step in your journey, please convo me in-game.
P.S. There are many trolls and naysayers on these forums that will attempt to derail my good intentions, theirs maybe not so.

I'm a bit sad to see the legacy unique things go away, such as Dr Caymus being the most SP pilot for the past 10 years.
It was making things a bit more unique and had a special place in my heart for being a sandbox, seeing as he's now passed by 50m sp in two days that's sad to see change.
I knew it would happen but really took away some of the awesome things in EVE.
No longer can he say he has spent the past decade purely keeping his position as the most skilled (sp wise) pilot in EVE, because over the night a pilot with enough ISK and/or real money, bought his/her way to the same spot he spent many years to keep.

You mean that strategic and careful planning of character development, tweaking of attributes, mapping out months or maybe years of training in well developed community driven 3rd party tools, learning to cope with what you had right then and learning to play the game in a way that meant that when you finally had access to that ship or module you both had a sense of achievement and were a better player by employing that 'make do' approach has somehow been entirely cheapened?
The world moves on dear Chribba, sociology nowadays expects instant access to all the toys, regardless of cost or a lack of overall experience. We may be considered dinosaurs in an ever consumer driven environment if we were even to raise a concern.
Hence my OP, I'm here to help all of the instant vets, I'm running with the times.
Can I count on you to endorse my service?

Kids and their instant access expectations! I think I will always be a dinosaur
I think the retention of players may still be at risk even more with these new fancy things, but like you said, times move on and perhaps I'm just not keeping up because I put 13 years of work into things, but no regrets and I'm sure that there will be plenty of opportunity for newets to lose their things.
I sadly cannot endorse your service, as it's not under my control and there's nothing stopping anyone from saying one thing and doing the other - that will never change, not even in EVE.
So at least this remains, and should be a reminder to any newet - "Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose" - sp injects or not.

Retention of players is nice when there's something to do; we're kinda stagnated in null because of the capitals and citadels revamp.
So, this way, EVE becomes like the other MMOs: they get an influx of returning players and some good income when they put in some WORK and release an expansion that's worth playing, and in about 3 months everyone loses interest and they have to re-attract everyone with another quality expansion.
So, CCP's already on a monthly expansion release program. Now they just have to make each one of them GOOD, and they'll have retention. Not based on our addiction to seeing the SP number slowly increase, but based on the quality of their work. As it should be. |

You're aware that vaporware becomes actual-ware whenever they actually release something? Such as the monthly expansions, for example. |

Perhaps in your own little dream world. Feel free to quit today. You won't be missed.

You haven't trained quoting efficiency to lvl 5. I do believe there's now a quick fix available...
Also, Duke Nukem Forever was vaporware for a considerable time, but since release is no longer. Games that have been released but are or will be no longer available are just dead games, like Dust 514 for example.

I said all along there should be a maximum level at which point they would no longer work so that it protected those high level sp characters that had played for years.
Sadly it seems that never happened. |

IMO the tools are there, to some extent it's the will of the player base thats lacking right now. Positions have been established, power-blocks evolved, bandwagons have been mounted and the name of the game is pixelated asset consolidation.
Sov/cap/travel/whatever changes may affect that to a degree, however the one thing that sustained EVE for all this time was....drama. That's what pulled players in and retained them more so than any game mechanic, shiny ship skin or fast tracking device. The grand tales of our little game which made it into mainstream press were the biggest adrenaline shots ever had. Now everything is a set piece, pre-arranged, without substantial risk.
So this is now a grrr goons thread, we're playing their game, but to be fair this was their objective all along - we just forgot.
I think we should all go shoot something.

Since I'm not playing the skill buy game, I'm doing it the old fashioned hard way (yeah, I'm stupid that way), as a service to my fellow newbies only a teenie, tiny thing to point out in the OP post...
I'm reminded of a line from the Eagle's "Hotel California" and the post seems to echo the sentiment, though not formally stated:
"You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave."
Just kinda got that vibe... I could be wrong. |

I had 12 years plus building this character and I know damn well its the journey to get here rather than the destination. I feel attached to a character I have built and developed over that time and would not for one moment still be in the game if I had gained over 200mil sp in a instant. so yes it is possible to insta progress now, but those characters I bet wont have any long time attraction to the game, as instant satisfaction holds the juxta position to long time fulfilment. |
