I just started by Heavy Drone to level 5 û its going to take me 33 days.
I am not using implants and I am not in a safe enough location to use them or even Clone jump to one; since I would have travel a good ways to a station to jump; not worth the effort.
This is sort of a dumb question but do people train skills that typically can take this long? I am assuming yes and that you just make sure you learning skills are maxed (as much as possible û have all of mine to lvl 5 and lvl 4 for advanced).
I am assuming some of you train skills that take longer than a month anyways and that this is the tip of the ice-berg.
The longest I have trained a skill was 13 days (so far)
So. ThatÆs life right?

Generally, training skills to level 5 is a waste just in itself. The bonus you gain from training a skill from lvl 0 to lvl 4 is much bigger than that last, long lvl 5. Of course, there are exceptions.
However, a lot of the most useful t2 items require lvl 5. And most t2 items give a straight 20 % bonus over the t1 items. And for some of them, there are specialization skills that give you even more bonuses over t1/named items, mainly guns missiles and drones.
And yes, I have trained both Heavy Drone Operation and Large Hybrid Turret to lvl 5. And it's sooo worth it.

Aye, heavy drones 5 and large hybrid 5 are good examples where the time spent really makes a diference. Also drone interfacing 5, while you are on the drones for that last 20% of damage.
If you really want to depress yourself, load up Evemon, and set a plan going for something like carriers or motherships (with all the necessary capital support mods) and then weep at the training times .....

You know, I did this and then chose to not plan anymore. Scared the hell out of me.

Am I the only one here that doesn't care about training level 5 skills? In fact, I love training level 5 skills. It's a sense of accomplishment for me.
The Nighthawk took over 100 days for me to train, and I'm still training all the support skills; it'll be at least another year before I'm finished with them. Whatever. Every day I hurt my opponents a little more a little bit faster. ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standar Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

Unless it's for a pre-requisite or you already have an immense amount of skill points, training skills to level 5 is a horrible waste of time. 5 level 4 skills versus 1 level 5 skill of the same rank; it's pretty clear that 5'ing non-prereq. skills is not the way to go if you want to get good quickly.

That is what I thought as well. It takes me 33 days to learn rank 8 skills to 5...
Oh, that's right, my point. Ahem - if you really want to be the best you have to put in the time. At some point if you want to continue the same ships you have been flying and max out their effectiveness, you are going to have to train some really painful crap to level 5. The longer you play the game, the less you are going to be able to mess around with a bunch of different skills for quick performance leaps in what you fly. That band aid is going to have to come off. What is your reward? Nobody can do what you do better. Nothing better in the world as far as I am concerned.

Do your selv af favor. Train all learning skills to adv LvL 4 exept charisma. Plug in the 2 +3 implants thats needed for drone skills. Its INT and MEM if i am not wrong. You can get those implants very cheap right now for about 40-50m for both. Then your traning time would be decreased with at least 40%.
You also gonna train other skills in the future so its a waste if you dont train learning skills+ plug in implants. Remember often you get 4 more points if you plug in a +3 implant because of "learning skill" that give you a +10% to attributes at LvL 5.
Yeah its a pain to train learning skills but its WELL WORTH in in the long run.
Best wishes

Did you even read the OP? He was wondering if 33 days was normal for a rank 5 skill, not whether training learning skills was worth it. Read the post please before responding.
OP, I don't know why it's taking you that long, because even my main who is very heavy on willpower and perception with no implants would only take 30 days to train heavies to lvl 5. Post a screenshot of your attributes so we can help you out more.
EDIT: Massive, I dont mean to sound like a douchebag, but next time read the post so you don't post info that has no relevance to the question asked and isn't info that the op probably already knows. _______________________________________________

Ouch shak.. get learning to 5 hehe and well the advanced's to 4 thatll cut a lot of training time down for ya.
I have 20 intel 20 percep 20 mem ~15 willpower 6 charisma and it would as i said before take me 23 days or so to train heavy drones to 5. The learning skill to 5 though will make a nice difference. But if you find yourself getting bored doing the learning skills please dont keep training them hehe take a short break and get somthing fun like another day or two off heavy drones or maybe bump up a diff skill like mechanic or electronics or somthing.
i agree seeing the skill plans for capital ships is rather depressing, but man are they cool :)
~156 days and counting :\

At least get +1 implants. I'd never go without implants honestly, usually got +3's in.
But yea, long skills 4tw. Adv Drone Interfacing to 5, Heavy to 5, BC to 5 HAC to 5. Did them all over 4 months when I wasnt playing EVE.
But get some implants, they're essential. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever
