What the hell is wrong with the devs responsible for the UI? Are they too busy spawning Sabre BPOs or something?
+1. You'd think they'd have one person assigned to get the low hanging fruit while the rest of them took care of the major things.

Originally by: Lygos Is there even a hotkey for zoom?
Can't fly properly with a laptop unless I drag a mouse around with me.
There was in RMR, wot it, and the "zoom out" button in UI open the map instead.
CCP, please change this back. If I wanted to open the map I'd hit the "map" buitton or F10.
I wouldn't expect a fix till the big rev 1.4 update though.

Bug reported this a month before Kali went to TQ but it wasn't a priority back then and doubt it will be even after this whining.

Put it in simple terms:
Camera zoom on session change means all "look at" special conditions are going to be active all the time.
That is not good. As in bad.

Think of it this way... (ok I know it may be a litte bit of a stretch here):
According to the backstory, our 'POV' in-game is via 'camera drones' which send info back to the ship.
If this is the case, then would not the drones have to be re-deployed on every jump/undock?
I hate having to zoom back out every time, but I just use this to put it in a RP perspective and it makes it a tiny little bit less annoying ^^ -=^=-

Do you knwo when this is also a bugging "feature"?
During Exploration/Placing probes, when in Solar-Map mode.. Easiest placement method of probes for me, as I also actually see (uhm well, actually this radius ball of them sometimes is f*** hard to make out), where I dropped them.
What happens? I zoom out, so I see the whole system, drop my probe and warp of to the next planet/BM.. what happens? View zooms back on smallest size, so I have to rezoom on every damn probe-drop-place!! *argh*
This get's even better when I try to make inter-planetary bookmarks for better covering the area.. hit warp, zoom out as fast as you can and be prepared to hit the "Create BM" Button in time... That's so f****** damn bs.
and it would really be f****** time, we could say by our own, how far we want to zoom out from our shuttle/cruiser/titan.. I mean, what's the idea behind? If I want to see the damn pixels, let me :p
Give us a sandbox, but don't hide the shovels and buckets from us, please! :D

Edited by: Kivers on 03/04/2007 22:26:24 Agreed.
Massive hassle - easilly fixed (?) therefore inconsiderate at best (?) - lag inducing -reset this for every session change (jumps especially) asap please including the annoying max zoom to pod when your ship is destroyed. |

With so many threads about this problem, you'd think they'd get around to fixing it already.
Apparently, they havent.

I've always been annoyed about having to zoom out from my ship. It would be great if the game "remember" my last zoom setting and kept it trough jumps and undocks. |

I don't care what CCP believes we want to see. What they could do is just add the option for us to choose "do not change camera zoom" or whatever and it's solved forever. I just broke my first mouse (not kidding), ever, in my history of 23? years of computer gaming. Guess how it was broken? The scrolling mouse wheel.
You can't have too much options in settings in a game. The players that play the game want to adapt it to their fixed preferreance. It shouldn't be hard to just add options like this.

When you undock/jump etc., what do you really want to see?
A: A good overview over the surrounding area, enabling you to immediately identify threats. B: A close-up view of the ship you're flying, which you've seen thousands of times before.
CCP seems to think it is B. I'd hazard the guess that the large majority of players would think it is A.
Yeah well, CCP think:
* You will want billboards on your overview. * Putting 'Trash...' next to 'Activate ship' is sensible. * Drag and drop is good exercise. * If a font is big enough to read easily it can be made smaller.
As always they are technically brilliant but lousy at good UI design. Been that way for more than three years (I gave up on the beta because I couldn't read the font) and I can only hope that the Gfx overhaul includes a UI overhaul by someone that knows what they are doing.
Last night at the CCP Programming Headquaters: TomB: Hey Oveur. Take a look at this ! I found a method to make the users fonts even more smaller. Oveur: Hmm ? What ? I think this was my code. A recursive algorythm implenteted since years, dude. TomB: No Oveur. Thats very much better that what i mean. Take a look ! Oveur: WOW, you really got it, how does it work ? TomB: This <censored> piece of code on the webservers + Tranquility and we have full control of the users fonts. Look how i can adjust the end users Browser Oveur: Wonderful mate . Thats a great push forwards in the right direction. I think we should test this also on our local newspaper, before we infiltrate the new york times. *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* Oveur: Oh a mail from Kieron. Can i have your magnifying glass ? I dont know where mine is. TomB: No problem, friend. Ah, its the new development shedule .........
To be continued True names and places are changed. eventually matches with real persons are random. dont send isk.
Yours Woodhead.
