Hardin - Serving The Empire
Just over three and half years ago I qualified as a pod pilot. Like many other graduates at that time I had little idea of what the future would hold - all I knew was that I wanted to serve my Empire in whatever way I could.
With my naturally high charisma my instructors all suggested that I was well suited for a career in business, some of the shadier even passed my details of their dodgy contacts in the underworld. Yet this path didn't really interest me.
Fortunately, on the day I graduated I had the great luck of meeting Lady Takumi Vetinari, someone who would play a major part in my early career as a pod pilot.
Lady Vetinari had created a corporation dedicated to the defence of the Amarrian Empire. That corporation was Prateoria Imperialis Excubitoris (PIE). As Lady Takumi explained her vision for PIE and the Amarr Empire I knew that this was the place for me and I signed up without hesitation.
In these early days PIE was very much at the lower end of the corporate ladder. Like myself the bulk of our early recruits were inexperienced and the galaxy seemed a very scary place to us. Nevertheless we had the right spirit and attitude and strong bonds of comradeship and loyalty soon formed - which was fortunate as our pro-Empire stance soon made us enemies.
Enemies of the Empire were numerous and powerful and outmatched the forces of Amarr in numbers, tactics and organisation. Prime amongst these was the Oracle Corporation - led by extremely capable pilots such as Sarkos, Hippey and Enheriar Ulrich and the barbaric People's Front of Minmatar led by Al Haquis and Tyto. PIE initially stayed out of direct conflict and concentrated on building up its logistical base. However, this stance could not and would not last for long.
Our friends and compatriots in First Praetorian Guard (1PG) led by Tharrn, and containing notable pilots such as Golan Trevize, was the first loyalist Amarrian corp to find itself on the battle lines with the Minmatar terrorists. Despite a valiant effort 1PG was simply outnumbered and spent much time being camped within stations. PIE decied to intervene on the side of 1PG and this led to the inevitable unification of the two corps behind the common goal of Amarrian protection.
Around this time Lady Takumi opened neotiations with the Imperial Dreams corporation and other loyalist groupings with a view to providing each other with mutual support against the Minmatar threat. It was this grouping which coalesced into the Curatores Veritatis Alliance although initially this was very much an unofficial organisation.

Strangely my first initiation into the world of combat did not come at the hands of Oracle or any of the other Minmatar organisations but at the hands of pirates. I had only just graduated from my Punisher to a spanking new Omen and boy was I proud of that ship. I was notified that a criminal fugitive was on the run and that there was a reward for his podding so I decided to intervene. I got in contact with the criminal and managed to persuade him to put his trust in me, thus discovering his location. Unfortunately two pirates from the infamous Space Invaders Corp by the names of Viceroy and Drunkenmaster had also obtained this information.
As I jumped into the system I received a warning from these nefarious characters who told me to stay away or be podded. I wasn't scared however. My brand new Omen would surely protect me I thought as I started searching the moons. Suddenly I came across the fugitive. At this stage I abandoned my guise as a benefactor and targeted the pod. Unfortunately, just as I achieved lock it warped away and more shockingly Viceroy arrived at the same moon and opened fire on me. I discovered very rapidly that I was outmatched and quickly sought safety - not before my Omen was reduced to structure. My hands shook with the excitement of it all and I found I could barely speak. From that moment I resolved to school myself in the art of combat and our terrorist enemies provided me with much practice in the intervening months.
My first podding occured a few months after this incident. By now I had obtained an Armageddon battleship and my Omen (which had miraculously survived) had been put into storage. It was during a routine engagement in Amarr. A terrorist had been sighted and I warped in to enagage. Unfortunately it was a trap which I realised when two more terrrorists, Hippey and Einheriar Ulrich, arrived and opened fire upon me. I was warp scrambled and could not escape. The armor melted and my panic rose. Wave afer wave of cruise missiles slammed into my ship which crumbled around me. Eventually it exploded and my pod was ejected into space. Unfortunately, this was in the days before the Gemodi Convention which limited the damage of these weapon types. As the last cruise missile slammed into the hull of the crumpled Armageddon it simultaneously exploded my pod. I have never felt the same since...
I hate to admit it but in my early days as a pod pilot I suffered from a wandering eye. My flirtations with Gallente wenches became common knowledge and indeed I suffered major guilt about this. Eventually under the kind ministrations of my inquisitors Gaius Kador and Archbishop I was purged of this weakness. These days only the most refined and obedient Amarrian womanfolk can turn my head.
AS PIE developed its combat capabilities it grew increasingly successful at driving the terrorists out of Amarrian space. Indeed the depredations of Minmatar terrorists reduced an all time low when our arch enemies in Oracle departed Empire to join the Curse Alliance. It was around this time that I and my brother pilots took a greater interest in protecting Amarrian commerce from the threat of common piracy.
Unbelievable though it is today Sarum Prime was once a hotbed of evil. Pirates of all varieties haunted the system striking fear into all who passed through. PIE lead the fight to restore security to the system clashing on many occasions with piratical characters such as Tank CEO and the infamous pirate band known as the Biomass Cartel. Eventually Concord noted our efforts and stepped up their own security - raising the status of the system and driving the pirates out.

In addition to our wars with the terrorists and pirates we were also declared upon by the confused 'Star Fraction' corporation who seemed to take exception to our loyalist goals. We rarely saw this motley crue of deranged malcontents led by the verbose Jade Constantine (or as we labelled her back then Jade Constantspin) however this was to lay the ground for other wars in the following years.
The death of Emperor Heideran was one of the most saddening events of this period. While many Amarrians criticised this Emperor for his apparent peaceful ways I believe they are traitors for even questioning him. One of my most treasured possessions is my Pax Amarria personally signed by Heideran - which was one of a number presented to PIE for our efforts on behalf of Amarr - so his death hit me hard.
Like many Amarrians I have always pledged my support to the Empire and Emperor over an above a loyalty to any particular House so I was not particularly worried about who was selected as the new Emperor. When the Kor-Azor House triumphed I, and a number of other PIE pilots, were invited to attend the succession ceremony.
This magnificent event was completely awe inspiring for a lowly pod pilot and I was unbelieveably honoured to have been chosen. One of my abiding memories of the event was the ritual suicide of the other heirs in accordance with Amarrian ritual and tradition. I personally witnessed the leaders of our great houses self destruct in veneration of our traditions. The fact that these people who had so much power and wealth gave this up in accordance with tradition is a powerful message to all Amarr.
However, I know that even today people argue the case that Jamyl Sarum escaped this fate. What conspiratorial nonsense! I saw her pod self destruct with my own eyes and if by some foul play it was not Jamyl Sarum onboard then she is now nothing more than a lowly heretic in my eyes. It saddens me that people demean her memory in this way and I look forward to the day when a new Sarum heir is appointed.

Whilst these galactic events transpired around me I was often more focused on the lowly but necessary work of making ISK. In my early days I found mining to be a most soothing occupation but as the war decs piled up so did the risk. After losing one to many bestowers I branched out.
I discovered that there was a major shortage of perception implants on the market and that these were demanding unusually high prices. Thanks to some of my shady contacts I discovered an agent in the Ammatar region who would provide a regular supply of such implants with suitable coaxing. This trade made me temporarily rich and allowed me to contribute many battleships to the PIE fleet.
Eventually however, I grew bored of the repitive nature of these activities and so began another period of poverty which has been a constant trait of my life as a pod pilot.
As many of you may already know my father was a senior Amarrian holder, my mother a lowly Ni-Kunni serving wench whom he impregnated following a few too many drinks. I only discovered this fact late in my childhood when my father finally admitted his paternal responsibilities and took a hand in my education.
It was at this time that I also discovered that I had a half-sister resulting from my father's legitimate marriage. My sister, Siobhan, being younger, graduated as a pod pilot some six months after I had but was much more blessed with combat talent than I will ever be.
As a result I started to take more of a back seat role, providing financial support and funding for my good sister as she took a front line position in the war against terror. Soon Minmatars and pirates would flee at the mere mention of her name and the sight of her Apocalypse of Doom.
PIE continued to go from strength to strength as did the (at this stage unofficial) alliance that was the CVA. With terrorists and pirates on the backfoot the decision was taken to take a more proactive role in expanding Amarrian influence.
To this end PIE, Imperial Dreams and other CVA corporations launched 'Operation Deliverance'. This Operation was focused upon bringing law and order back to lawless Amarrian systems in Lower Domain and in neighbouring Providence.
As part of the CVA Siobhan and I worked with many outstanding Amarrian pilots to cleanse the region of pirates - making it safe for trade and business and this is work that continues to this day. Many are the enemies that PIE and the CVA took on and defeated at this time - expanding the holy Empire one system at a time.
It is a project that I remain supremely proud of.

Over time PIE began to change with many veterans moving on to other challenges. I also faced increased challenges in my business life which reduced the amount of time I could contribute to the running of PIE and the Deliverance Project and as a result of this I took a six month sabbatical.
When I retuned to activity I discovered that PIE had decided to focus on Empire based terrorism and leave the CVA. Personally I felt that the CVA 'Deliverance' project was where my heart lay and as a result decided to leave PIE and join Imperial Dreams, which at that time was the largest of the other CVA corps.
Leaving PIE was a tough decision but I felt that the CVA offered me more freedom in working for Amarr with both its 0.0 and Empire focus and it is a decision I have never regretted. Fortunately Siobhan decided to stick with me in the CVA.
Since that time my zeal for Amarr has not diminshed. I have seen the CVA progressively increase its economic and military ability, although the threats it faces have also increased.
Out of the disorganised remnants of Oracle a new breed of terrorist corporation emerged which eventually coalesced into the Ushra'Khan alliance. Our war with the terrorists never ceases and indeed grows more intense as our borders run up against each other in Providence as we both expand our ideologies into 0.0.
Other Minmatar alliances such as Electus Matari and NMTZ have developed which either directly or indirectly support terrorism. The threat remains to Amarr - indeed it grows. Yet I know the valiant pilots of the CVA and its Amarrian allies in PIE, Aegis Militia and First Praetorian Guard are more than capable of dealing with anything the barbaric Minmatars throw at us.
My main concern these days is ISK - I dont want to sound like a Caldari but I find the upkeep of Siobhan's military adventures more and more time consuming.
At first it was the odd Armageddon - now it's Archons, slave implants and other fancy gizmos. Her constant demands have contributed to the launch of my successful alliance creation business. I have even expanded into the POS business - a fact that makes me shudder everytime I think of it. Hardin an industrialist - don't even go there...
While I may not be on the frontlines as much as I used to be, do not think that I am some enfeebled desk jockey. Long hours I have spent learning the secrets of command.
For once my natural charisma has proved an asset rather than a liability when it comes to combat.
Soon the Minmatars will see me joining Siobhan and other CVA heroes on the frontline, my invincible Damnation boosting the morale, courage and fighting efficiency of all around me.
I look forward to three more years serving the CVA. Three more years killing the deluded heathens who challenge Amarrian superiority. Three more years serving God and our Holy Amarrian Empire.

Jade Constantspin...ehm...Constantine, was around all the way back then? I had been under the impression that the Star Fractions meddling in empire affairs was a newer thing as I had heard little of the Star Fraction before its Kimotoro Directive campaign and Jericho Fraction were known only to me as one of the corps that fought with Reikoku against some of the earlier northern Pod-pilot alliances. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. The Star Fraction idealogues have been around for as long as I can remember. Our first war with them occured literally months after I became active as a pod pilot (and before they became involved in Northern politics).
Unfortunately the first 'Star Fraction' war was almost without incident as both PIE and the terrorists occupied widely separated regions of the galaxy.
My only worthwhile memory of our first clash with Star Fraction was running into Ms. Constantine's hauler. Unfortunately, I did not have a warp scrambler equipped and she escaped Amarrian justice.

Your dedication to your empire is commendable. I do not agree with all things Amarr stand for, but I cannot disparage working against those that would destroy your home. I, too, work for many of the same things you do, though my chosen protectee is, of course, the State.
Continue to work against the destructive forces that threaten you and yours, and know that there are those who support you, even in the State.

Brother Hardin - Your devotion to the Empire honours all who fly with you.
I can count you amongst a few brave podpilots whom have time and again proven, that when the fedo hits the fan I can rely on them without question, and visa versa.
I cannot express how proud I am to fly with you as a corp mate and friend.

On the contrary. Tenacity, courage and the will to fight are traits central to the Amarr way of life that I think that the CVA, AM, VV and definitly PIE expects from all pilots under their banner. Hardin is a true paragon, but his virtues are nowhere near unique in the Amarr loyalist ranks (even if not bestowed upon everyone with such generosity).
We Amarr are quite misunderstood, but what can you expect when the media is controlled by the Gallente, the true rival of the Amarr empire(both militarily and ideologically). ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it.
