It used to be that clone upgrades used to serve a multi-purpose. It was an isk sink, failing to pay was an SP sink, and it pretty much annoyed everyone that used that system. So clone upgrades were abolished. I'm sure that there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, but I wasn't here so I missed the fun.
Before clone upgrades were abolished, T3 Cruisers were introduced and it created a minor SP sink.
Today we have Injectors. A nice SP sink when they are used by those with diminishing returns, an even better SP sink when they get blown to bits. Also, it is a wash for stupid characters that max their skills, since they can't train skills that are maxed out they effectively lose that training time. No SP are created by maxed characters.
So anyone wondering what the next SP sink is besides me? I'd be surprised if one isn't coming.

Yeah, that first dummying down of the game, to cover for people too cheap or too disorganized to keep up, was a harbinger of things to come. However, calling it an SP "sink". C'mon, man. You're kidding, right?
(One of the keys to becoming gaming history is to invent a term everybody then runs with. For instance, I invented "smacktard" and "asshat". No, really.)

Taxation and death is what is sure in life. But they dont have to come together.
SP sink was moved to the feature where no one will defend it really, as it is a TAX system, but what is taxed is injecting SP, made by high SP characters, not by everyone who dies. Tech3 removal of SP in case of death, as every penalization in a case of death, should be removed.
Also, ISK taxation and ISK bounties should be changed to dynamic system.

But maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Considering the number of extractors sold so far, I'm curious to see if it's a greater SP sink than clone upgrades were. |

Well, technically that is what it is. It is a mechanic by which SP are removed from the game. The scope is limited, and the utility is obscure but it is happening.
Now that a mechanic is in place to translate SP into isk, or RL cash to SP there will be an incentive to create more SP sinks to encourage more players to buy injectors, and create more income for CCP. Whether CCP follows up on that incentive, it would be obtuse to assume they are unaware of the option.
Personally, I see more SP sinks coming, which will change this entire SP economy from a boom>bust>trickle into a thriving market. But CCP might opt to keep any new SP sinks in line with the current meta-- t3 BCs, t3 BS, T3 Capital ships with progressively greater penalties--rather than re-implement SP tax systems, or create completely arbitrary SP sinks.

I don't think you'll have to wish too hard. RMT will surely cross contaminate the injector markets soon, if it hasn't already.
I will lol.

Well, let's run with that thought. Imagine creating an SP tax for in game messages for players not on your contact list, instead of, or in-addition to the isk fee.

Where else is the future of SP sinks discussed? All I see "worries" or such threads, which this is not. As a trader, I'm more interested in awareness of all the options, so I can plan accordingly. I'm not particularly interested in discussions of whether something is "good" or "bad". Rather, this is more about "likely" or "unlikely."

Well in the first ~10 hours of skill injectors going live 5B SP were sunk. How much more do you want?

It's not about wanting or shunning, This thread is discussing the possibility. That's why I don't say things like, "It would be terrible if..." or, "It would be great if..."
I think more SP sinks are likely. Not really getting much in the way of agreement or disagreement. Just people leaping to conclusions that this is another pro/con thread, which it is not.

There are not more SP sinks coming. Especially since the amount of SP in the game is irrelevant. If anything the SP loss of T3's will be removed when they finally balance them properly, since to make them in line with the other ships they have to remove a lot of the power as well. |

Fair enough. I think that additional SP sinks are highly unlikely and I see no need for them in the current environment.
