I have a suggestion for funtionality. I was wondering if CCP could implement a translator ingame. I like playing with russian players but I find that the language barrier make it very difficult. So whenn I do i find myself google translating every word out of game which make it near impossble to play with players that speak other languages. |

Why not just learn Russian instead? Much more enjoyable and useful outside of the game, too!

Learn their language in this case. What you do is not how communication between 2 languages is supposed to take place and what you Google translate together is at best just grammatically wrong and at worst insulting the other player(s).

By the way, OP, and just out of curiosity, is English your first language?

Don't mind all the hate from the language nazis, I think this is a great idea. Like you, I've had to has a translator up at all times in trying to communicate with other nationalities and would be much easier for an option preset to right click and translate. "Oh just learn the language," no that is a stupid remark and not any helpful advice. What are the most common languages on eve? English, Russian, German, Spanish, and some Korean. Rivr seems to propose learning all the national languages, in that case I would hope he has led the way in this endeavor and can speak fluently all those languages. I would also personally like to hire him as a translator if that is the case. But it most likely is not and he is simply being troll at best. |

Unfortunately there is no good tranlator that can translate to slavic language. Every time when you try translate something from englis to any slavic language, its terrible and almost unreadable. |

CCP is a game developer as a business. Anything a game developer could code at a realistic cost for their profit margin would be just as crappy as the google translator. Maybe if they devoted the efforts to translating just one language into just one other language, it might be cheap enough, but that is also not realistic for the world wide customer base CCP has.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.

And I work as translator for the first 3 languages, and I know what kind of atrocities automated translation systems like Google Translate do to languages and communication (especially what such a system would do when implemented with CCP's idea of a well working system). And you? Sidenote: What you want is interpretation and not translation, as I doubt that you want to wait a couple of hours until I have translated your full text and instead want your conversation interpreted timely. That you do not even know the difference is revealing.

I would like to point everyone to the game Final Fantasy 11. That game has a set of words and phrases that are auto translated between English and Japanese. Using those auto translated phrases players of both languages are able to play the game together in a cooperative way. I played that game for a long time and used the auto translator function to great effect nearly every play session. I see no reason why CCP can't do this as well.
Learning another language is a great goal but not one that everyone shares or has time to invest in. Making a game more accessible to its current and future players is something CCP should always be willing to work on. |

I wonder how efficient a text conversation is in a fleet. That's the most standardized feature of EVE where this could be useful, however, text based fleet commands are significantly slower than those via voice communication. I go so far as to say that text based fleet communication with fleet commands plays no role at all in EVE exactly because it's too slow. A fleet using voice coms would beat a texting fleet hands down from an organizational standpoint.
As for the other fields like trade, industry and PVE: I am not convinced that translating universally understood abbreviations like WTS/WTB or Primary is Sansha Nation Commander do anything helpful to the communication between players. If you look at the example of Incursion fleets again, it's the same situation as with PVP fleets: Voice coms as well as broadcasting and tagging beat text chat communication in terms of convenience and speediness.

-1 because EvE is a game company and they need to keep the devs they have working on the game.
-1 because as others have said auto translate / interpret is terrible at best, I know this my god son is an interpreter by profession and currently speaks, reads writes and can read 6 languages and he hates every auto program in existence.
Setting aside the technical challenges from the computer side you are missing an opportunity here to expand your knowledge. Instead of asking CCP to solve your problem ask your EvE Russian friends to help you learn I am confident that at least a few of them speak English and combined with something like the links below they should have you communicating reasonably well in just a few weeks.
Babble an online language learning tool that my god son uses from time to time.
Rosetta Stone the company my wife works for uses products from this company to train employees in the languages they will need for their jobs. My god son recommends Rosetta Stone often for those who want to learn a language at their own pace or just for fun. |

Again like some one pointed out one language to one language would be doable to some extent but what two languages do you choose. Eve is full of English French German Russian Spanish Japanese and more
