Destructive Influence Band of Brothers

this is just a slight rant on mixed weapon ships, inspired by a few remarks in the NOS topic that lies around.
I'm mostly a minmatar pilot, and most of our ships tend to have a few missile hardpoints, that are generally ignored.
now the reason they get ignored lies within the fitting mechanics.
- If you consider a ship without any weapon bonus, let's say a 75/25% setup with turrets/missiles is a good choice, and maximises damage, Even on a ship like the cyclone with a single damage bonus to turrets, it's still viable - Now factor in the double projectile bonus most minnie ships get ... rupture, hurricane, tempest, most heavy hitter T2 ships ... the difference tends to render missiles quite useless. - Now consider that most damage-oriented setups need gyros to enhance this damage, the damage output of a pair of un-bonused missile launcher becomes laughable.
Take it one step further, add projectile customizing rigs to said ship (yeah, you COULD add missile rigs to your setup but ... errrm) and secondary weapon systems go the way of the dodo bird, especially considering these slots can easily be filled with the "must have" Nosferatu!
Secondary weapons are mostly viable on setups that are not geared towards all out damage, preferably on ships that don't have all-out projectile bonii (the two extra slots on the muninn, a ship with 4 turrets bonii, make me cry)
any opinions about this?

so you're ranting about having the option of being able to have missiles and prjectiles fitted to your ship? but you want both to have a bonus?
that's ok i've seen the odd ship with a bonus to guns and missiles fly one of those if that is your complaint
or you could fit for PvE and then churn out the most effective damage types for that mission which we all know you can't do with projectiles anyway
how about not fitting split weapon system set up that might solve the problem or just don't use nos and DO fit a split weapon system seeing as how if you fit gyro's in the lows you can then fit damage and rof rigs for the missiles that seems like a good deal to me
but then i think i might have missed the point somewhere

Not that I fly minnie ships but the Phoon might get a good advantage from this assuming it's not a nano boat. With the 50/50 layout with rof bonus to missiles and projectiles you can now fitt modfiers to both wepon systems without using all your low slots. You could go with 2 gyrostabs and one BCU in the lows and then 1 gyro rig thingie and 2 missile rof rigs. And still the penalties wont be bad at all. The phoon should easily outdmage any other ship out there.

Gun bonus rigs are mostly worthless as the PG increase makes the guns impossible to fit.

To fit 4 siege and 4 1400mm on the phoon u need 3 reactor controls even with awu 4. If you want you could probably use 4 650 or 425 instead and maybe cruise to reduce power needs. Then you would get easily outdamaged by a siege II raven.

If only that would fit, damage/rof rigs take 200 calibration, so that's max 2 of those kind of rigs. Crystal-Slave, that way? Potential solution to the current Recon cloak and cyno bug |

On general terms, I agree. But with the way the stacking penalty works, if you already have 2-3 damage mods for your primary weapons, then a damage/rof rig for your secondary weapons might be more effective than another one for your primaries. ------------------------------------------ Every ship has a base 60-70% resist against the primary damage type of the race that is the least able to vary it's damage types. |
