Edited by: Gealbhan on 05/02/2007 17:43:02 I'm using a Caracal with 3 heavy and 2 assault launchers in the high slots. A shield extender/hardeners (magnetic, Kinetic and Heat) and that converse thingy in mid slots and a ballistic control unit + cpu booster in the low. Works fine for me. I was just snooping around 0.5 space and took out 3 sansha slavers at the same time. dropped my shield from 2613 to 2551. I figured I'd use a Caracal seeing as I have a lot of shield skills and a few missile skills.
If I set that up wrong and someone here has a better idea for caracal configuration, let me know
Edit: P.S. I did a forum search, nothing really answered my question which is why I started a new topic. I'm looking to do missions and ratting, not really looking for PvP - yet.

If this is a PvE ship and you are fighting Sansha then harden for EM and Thermal resistances (i.e. you can drop the Kinetic hardener and toss another EM on).
You may find a cap recharger in place of the shield extender helps if you have cap issues running that.

Rather than using three class specific hardeners, you may want to look at just an invuln field and 2 hardeners for the specific damage you are protecting against in PvE missions. (i.e. Guristas- therm and kinetic hards with invuln field) It gives you that much extra protection for what you need. The downside is you will need to switch out your hards between missions if the enemy changes, which is just an annoyance. As for the high slots in level 1 and 2 missions id suggest assault launchers, but once you get up to level 3 id suggest all out heavies for the extra damage and range since you'll be facing more cruisers and bc's.

Isn't fitting more than one module that effects the same property against Eve rules?

Huh? Why would it be?

No. It often comes with a penalty, but definitely NOT against the rules. I regularly fit 2-3 gyrostabs on my gunships.

Ha ha! Yea, the "stacking penalty" does kinda sound like a punishment for being naughty if you think about it. But in reality it's just another convention in the game, where additional modules with the same effect provide diminishing returns.
You can load up with as many Energized Adaptive Nano Membranes (EANM) as you can fit, but each one will have less overall affect than the last.

Using more than one of same module isn't against EVE rules, but you just get either no effect from second module or reduced effect. Some modules refuse to work if you fit a second one. For example, fitting two afterburners you'll have only one work and the second one just won't activate. Other modules stack if they affect the same property of the ship. For example if you fit two different modules both of which affect EM shield resistace, one of the modules will be 100% effective but the second one will work only to 86% of its ability.
Caldari ships, which are shield-tanked, have more difficulty with Sansha than ships that are commonly armor-tanked. Sansha do EM damage to which shields have 0% base resistance. Armor has 60-70% base resistance to EM damage type on most ships. Thus using armor tanked ships you will have less difficulty absorbing damage from larger and larger Sansha than in shield tanked ships. Sansha and Caldari ships just don't mix too well.

Low: CPU booster and ballistic control.
Drones: 2 hornet tech I's
Ran a lvl 1 mission last night, had to clean out two areas of rats, about 20 rats in each nest. Did ok, lowest my shields dropped was to 50% (3,631hp in all) and lost a drone. But I won

Also about looting wreaks, if you want fit an faster ship out with salvagers, and when in a mission bookmark a wreack, right click it and select bookmark, turn in the mission and return to your bookmark with the faster salvaging ship.

For lvl II missions, I've found that fitting a target painter was really worth the slot and ressource usage... It boosts the efficiency of your heavies... A lot when you shot at frigate-sized target which in level II is most of the time. I haven't tried the heavy assault launchers yet... has anyone tried them in PvE? ----- " There's no brave in a 5-to-1 fight. Just 5 cowards and a fool. - Perhaps. But it worked didn't it?" |

Dropp the havys, so you can use PDS. Cpu boster dont give you mutch. Pdu give you more shild, and cap.
Use missiles who fits the rats you fight. So as a caldari brother you should pick a fight with the gurista *******. So you can use kinetic damage, caracal have bonus fore that type to!
Wait for lvl3 mission to go fore havys!

First off, thanks so far for the replies, some great advice here
I abandoned the heavy launchers after looking at the missile tutorial and that type of missile Vs frigates and stuff on lvl 1 missions. I've fitted 5 Malkuth light missile launchers since and I'm killing off the frigates much faster. with my missile skills I'm getting a 35km range from light missiles.
mid slots have been revamped too. in there now is a medium shield booster, invul field, magnetic scatter amp (I need this for the em resist), medium shield extender and a 10MN afterburner.
also I replaced the cpu enhancer in the low slot with a nanofiber thing to squeeze a little more speed from the caracal.
I've been unable to find guristas yet, I'm running into a lot of Sansha and Bloods. I operate from Sarum Prime III.
Most of the stuff I'm using is loot from pirate wrecks. I'm only playing about 3 weeks & still learning stuff/earning isk. Soon as I can afford it I'll start getting tech II modules.

If you are intent on shooting Gurista Pirates (no particular reason you should as they are not "better" than any others but whatever floats your boat) then hang in The Forge or Lonetrek regions (and maybe the Citadel?...I forget).
Personally I find Gurista's the most annoying. Missile spam can be super annoying when 20 ships are shooting you at once (your ship seems to be in the middle of a neverending fireball not to mention the endless roar of explosions) and Gurista missile ships seems to have near limitless range with their missiles (I have been shot by frigs with light missiles from over 80km away...dunno if CCP has sorted that issue out or not but sucks).
I had no problem doing them...just annoying.
