My 2008 laptop is dead. (yay) So I'm in the market for a new one. Your advice will be taken seriously.
1. Yes, I need to stay with Apple. 2. I don't want to duel boot, but I could if I have too. 3. I like 15", but I really want something more portable for travel. 4. When I'm home, I can plug into a larger monitor so smaller laptop is fine. 5. Not too worried about graphics as I often play on low, but high would be fine.
Let me know. I'd like to have this before my trip to Iceland.
Thanks

As long as you go for dedicated GPU, there shouldn't be any issues.
I have a MBPR 15" 2012 and can run 1 client medium nicely at high res, or 2-3 clients at low textures. |

How will the resolution work out on a 13" MBPr? Text may be pretty small.
Looks like the only MBPr with dedicated GPU goes for $2500 USD. But, may as well splurge right if you want it to last another 8 years like your old one :)
I'm sure Iris Pro or Iris 6100 could perform pretty well, too. |

Hey Max,
As I have been a fan of Macs for a long time - and try do some research on them as I can't just go and drop tons of money on them (crappy RL job)
My understanding is the Iris Pro is suppose to be very nice - I would take an afternoon and read some reviews.
My issue with Apple is this - lack of updated driver support. They put all their eggs into developing metal which from the numbers looks amazing, but guess what. EVE is a Windows game bundled in a wine wrapper. Now my understanding is - wine, thanks to crossover and other developers, will/should have DX11 support by/near years end.
If you can - go to an Apple Store and have them let you play with their computers, and by play, have them let you instal EVE. When I worked at a campus store, we had a number of blizzard games installed as well as other software (If I was going to sell a 1-2k$ computer I wanted people to test it.)
If you really want EVE to shine on Mac, use your influence to help motivate CCP in developing a non-wine-bundled version.

Keep in mind that while 2016 integrated graphics aren't great, they beat 2008 dedicated graphics pretty easily. The 13" MacBook Pros are hardly top of the line, but I don't think you would be unhappy.
Personally, between the absurd prices and problems with heat, I've sworn off high-end "desktop replacement" laptops.

I believe cider (the fork of wine which is used by the EVE client) already supports DX11.
