Hello everybody, I just came back to EvE after a break, but I've always been a noob (4m sp loll). To be honest, I wanted to play this game since I tried it for the first time, but focusing on a single goal seems really hard to me. After the first moments of doubt decided to be a mission runner, and managed to fit a Drake and run lvl3s and some lvl4s solo, but then boredom came... I'm not saying the game is boring, there's like a million things to do to have fun, it's just I don't have a real goal and I'm just too ignorant in everything concerning this game that I cant really decide what to do.
In every game I played I always liked one thing: PvP. But PvP in EvE isn't easy, you have to know how to fit your ship, what targets should you aim for, the actual combat mechanisms, and on top of that, you must have a somewhat steady ISK income to afford the losses (which on first stages will probably be high).
So, after deciding I need to learn a bit about the game before going PvP (and get some skill training and whatnot) I went for missions. That path turned out to be kind of boring to me, so I'm considering other possibilities like becoming a trader or even a miner.
Trader: Also requires a high skill training pretty useless for other activities, and a huge amount of research in order to be able to succeed, I guess you would probably need to get a hauler or hire someone to haul for you (in the ideal scenario) and that would require either ISK or SP i don't currently have.
Miner: I don't like mining, it seems like being in EvE as spectator mode but without nothing interesting to watch but your wallet, I mined at first and I don't really mind mining to get some money, I even considered to mine every month until I cover a PLEX (if that's even possible) then go back to my normal funny activities but recent events (hi-sec kamikazes) made me be afraid of that path. In fact, even when I'm considering hi-sec mining to afford some stuff myself I kind of understand the kamikazes pov.
So, I need a short/mid/long-term goal, my main concern is my skill training doesn't really allow me to do anything yet and I spend the time kind of waiting for my training...

Thanks for the link, however, I already know most of that stuff, the thing is that in order to be able to do anything I need sp, which increases slowly, so want something to do in the meantime.

Already did, I was in a 0.0 corp but ran out of playing time, when I came back I was kicked out and lost my best ship horribly trying to go back to high sec xD |

Go to NPC null for missions and ratting in a frigate or BC. You can start with one of the pirate arcs. It adds a PvP layer on top of your missions which makes them much more fun. It also pays more and you really need the extra ISK to pay for your losses. |

Thanks for the suggestion, I really liked it, I don't know how to know if a nullsec region is NPC or PC tho, but I would really love to do that if I knew it isn't a 100% suicide mission. I don't mind loosing ships or getting podded, that's part of the game, but I'd like to be able to have my wallet in positives at least xDDD and that seems to be a hard task on 0.0 |

Its a common misinterpretation that you need to be a high SP character to do anything - that's why a lot of people quit. Just join a decent corp and they'll get you doing more basic roles until you can fly the necessary ship to the standard needed. Wormholes seem cool and something that I want to get into.. But for a casual player the easiest thing to do is missions for ISK and low-sec/high-sec pvp for fun (not particularly satisfying in the long run though unless you have a good corp) :) Basically just find a good corporation, do NOT join the first one that seems cool.. i've made that mistake too many times. Good luck. |

Eve is boring. Thats why only uber nerds play this game. The only saving grace is the interesting convos had over voice coms.

Don't, they both suck hard.
Trader: Also requires Quote:a bot program to insta-adjust market orders ...yeah

I personally have no idea how eve online gets new members. its not even a problem of isk cause you don't have the experience and skill points to fly anything descent in game. And you haven't a clue what to do in game. Worse, you're prolly on 1 account which is hell as far as I'm concerned.
I'd stop training you're main character for now, and start a new character that flies a maxed out covops/noctis with cloak and all scanning skills to L4. Become a scannersalvager for a wormhole corp and funnel that isk back to you're main who you can train into a frigate/cruiser specialist and put him into RvB for now.
If you have the isk, when you roll a new character, train cybernetics to 1 and pop in +3s, then buy a cerebral accerlator and remap towards the salvager/scanner alt. The +3s are even free this x-mas from CCP even. |

Quit while your ahead.
In all honesty Eve is boring and crap for the most part. The only good thing about Eve is the community, and the fact that everything else in the MMO industry is worse, So really your first/main goal is to find a good player corporation and make friends/contacts. If you don't you will still find this game boring and will quit again, no matter what you try and do ingame. |

Ya... Sure... Goonswam will probably agree. Haven't played for months, but doesn't mean I am disconnected from the game XD.

The thing isn't being casual or not, I'm used to stand in front of the computer playing an MMO for 8 hours, but I guess I get your point. Finding a good corp being a complete noob is hard anyways.

I can fly Noctis atm, might try to be the salvager for a corp, and my covops skills are low but i would be able to fly masticore in 2x days. Will look into it.
Your post reminds me the worst point about this game: Progression, being a new player nowadays is stupid, I don't mind having to learn tons of stuff, I find it entertaning, but knowing that the only way to improve your skills is waiting seems stupid, I would need years to be able to do all the stuff I'd like to do. IMO CCP should change something in the system to make it easier to new players to get some SP and have fun, at least the first months or something.

I understand, it's like playing wow by yourself, pointless. MMO games aren't made by the devs, mostly the community, so I'll need to find a nice corp where I can learn and contribute. |
