I dont understand why the downtime has to always be at one time. it is perfect for half the world all living in the US or Europe, as this time is during the day. but for thoughs of us on the opposite side of the world, ie Australia, japan etc. this time is bewteen 7pm - 9pm. me personally its 8.30pm - 9.30pm. today however with the extended downtime, its 7.30pm - 9.30pm.
It would be great if it could change from time to time. like somedays have it in the afternoon GMT or somedays in the morning GMT. or whatever would still be convenient for sever office hours. i know its been an issue for years, but just because people are putting up with it doesn't mean its ok.

Edited by: Sacul on 08/02/2007 10:23:20 So.............this is thread number--what?--84 or so on this topic?
As stated over and over again. The DT is at a time for server geeks to do their magic on it not for your comfort zone of playing. Its a crappy time for me aswell but hey i do other stuff during when not working. so yeah go clean your house or something during.

Yeah no one caes about Australia or Japan though
And for god's sake, It's ONE hour !! Surely you can find something to do in that time!
And more to the point things used to be reversed before Complex respawn times where changed as you guys would be online for the downtime and so able to ***** the complex straight after DT.
For most of use european chaps we are at work during DT so we missed out
Things are fine as they are.

The servers are in London, 11gmt is perfect for GMT. Unless y'know YOU want to be working on servers at 3am, which in turn would affect somewhere else in the world. Everyone is hit by the inconvenience of downtime, go do something else for an hour (two today). Theres more to life than computer games....

Downtime is usually decided for the convenience of the tech team doing the maintenance. I see no benefit in shifting the downtime to a time, when they just woke up and did not have a coffee, neither to a time, where they want to go home fast, or a time, where they would usually be asleep. I prefer them to do maintenance at a time, when they are fully awake with a good portion of their normal work day ahead still, to solve possible problems.
Cycling the downtime would be a real hassle IMHO. As it is now, everyone knows, when the downtime on March 15th will start. Everyone knows, when the downtime on August 30th will start. Why change something, that is not broken ? Yeah, I can see, that you likely see it as broken, cause you get busted in your prime time, but to be honest, I am pretty sure, that the total loss of playtime for all players around the world, would be greater, if CCP started to cycle the downtime schedule.

The reasons why DT at 11am GMT have been explained before, I am paraphrasing:
11am GMT is 10am Iceland time, which means Devs have had time to get into the office and get rid of their hangovers.
The TQ Cluster is located in London, so engineers are most available between 9am and 5pm GMT.
Eve is (or was) primarily a European game when it started. For the vast majority of players a 11am GMT DT covers when people are at work/school.

The daily downtime of 11am GMT was picked as it is this time when Eve tends to be at it's quietest, and hence will cause the least disruption. At 11am most US/Canadian players are still in bed, most European players are at work/school. That means the bulk of the playerbase is not usually on-line. Yes, I know that's not fair for our Asian/Australian fellow players but you have to accept that if these things need to be done, then they need to be done in a way that causes the least inconveniance, and sadly that means doing so right in the middle of your prime play time

It is a pain in the ass for us because when we don't have uninterupted playtime in the evenings.
In a way it would be nice if the downtime was shared around, but reliability is the best outcome.

What is going on? It seems like every second forum post is by someone with a roo loose in the top paddock.
I live in Australia. DT is 8-9pm. The time sucks.
WHO CARES?
DT isn't about the players, its about CCP and them being able to do the maintenance on the server at the time that suits them best. Therefore it should stay exactly where it is because its the time best suited to them and that is the most important thing.
Try thinking of the big picture once in a while, not just how something affects you personally.

man u guys. it does suck when your a worker in au it means u get about 3 to 4 hours after work before the ddt then by the time its up its time to go to bed. while the dt is very important and cant be helped ,having dt an hour or 2 earlier or later would make eve for aussies alot better. try doing worlds collide lvl 4 in a couple of hours then salvageing it . not real easy. better to have dt at 2 pm to 3 pm au time when im at work for a change. also most eve players are older people with spouses and alot have children . so the afternoon is usualy stuffed anyway. thats my opinion.

Personally I would like to see them fix it to only need a downtime every few days.
How about an hour a day on Mon, Wed and Fri?
(Naturally things like standing changes/resets would still need to happen without the DT)
Long term plan could be to get rid of it entirely :)

1) Suck it up, DT needs to be at a convenient hour for CCP staff, who are all either at GMT or GMT - 1.
2) Suck it up, the majority of Eve players are European or US, and it's convenient for us.

DT ends at bedtime?
...change your bedtime?
I live in GMT, but play Eve at the same time as US players. Why? Most people I know in Eve are in the US, so I just let my sleep cycle shift in that direction. ----------
