Good thing this isn't the Intergallactic Summit then, and people can be called out for their actions when they cross the line. Horrbile human beings? You leave that IRL crap at the login screen, man. This is a game, and games are suposed to be fun.
If you are going to take advantage of a fellow player, at least do it in good spirit. Don't taunt or provoke them for the sake of a reaction, as you will find those reactions come naturally in most people, and those are the most genuine and tasty tears. Stunts like the one in this thread disencourage people from following demands under threat and deny the actual pirates that create content we can all enjoy, like real ransoms and hostage situations that were defused diplomatically and without much of a scuffle!
You can gripe all you want about fairy-tale pirates, but I'm not the one spouting "Yarr" here. I mean, I do say "Yarr" from time to time, but that's totally not the same thing! |

Good thing that what I do with my alts and my accounts is nothing of your beewax then!
I have a character in the EVE Monument, what about you? Should I judge you poorly for your lack of dedication to EVE? Of course not, that would be mean and out of character from my part. |

Us Elite Highsec PVPers honor agreements because there's an ingrained concept of contractual obligation, usually based on a desire to maintain a reputation and secure repeat business.

Highsec mercing can't be equated to any single form of hunting because it requires a lot of adaptability.
Sometimes it's hog hunting with a spear, but also at night, but you brought your head mounted FLIR binoculars so it's not so bad, but then it turns out one of the hogs has a shotgun, sometimes you have to kill forty really angry seagulls using only a .45 before they can peck your eyes out other times it's a grizzly bear and you're holding it down bare handed but its okay because you've just got to not die until your associates can show up with their highly specialized anti-bear rifles.

Speaking as someone who has acted as the negotiator* for a ransom that gave us 5b** (after a theft that gave us another 15b***) a small horde of extremely angry raccoon- I mean... pilots... yeah- I can say that honoring one's word is fairly important. If you're going to kill 'em, kill 'em all. If you're gonna ransom, keep your word. It's so hard to properly ransom nowadays, and I can't imagine pirates actually making a living off of it.
Every time some dumbass pirate thinks 'hurr blurf blurf i take iskies then shoot you cuz iz good pirate', you make others look bad, and what's worse is that you make the rest of us who keep a ransom policy seem untrustworthy. You're not a pirate, you're just a thug with an ego.
At the very least keep some word, or else it's poor sportsmanship. Even if the policy is 'No Stalling or We Shoot' and 'Money Now or We Shoot'.
*On my main character. **Would've been 7b ransom****, but we killed the Chimera with the Thanatos we stole, because we couldn't fly it and get it away. ***Seriously, don't forget to fuel your Bling POS. Wormholers will steal anything that's not nailed down and on fire. ANOIKIS KNOWS ONLY MONEY AND BLOOD. **** We ransomed hole control, a Thanatos with fighters [but not its fittings], an opening to fuel the pos, and extra to drop the Thanatos into shields when they came back up. For those curious. It was a great and happy New Years.

Love it OP. I support your pirate-y actions. And honestly this guy learned a pretty cheap lesson: Never trust a pirate.
I will say... there are those who DO honor their word. And that's what makes Eve great--it feels like a real universe. Some people genuinely want to help you and others are lurking, hoping you fall for their mischief.
Its dumb to be salty over this kind of RP because its what makes the game awesome IMO. |

to be honest, being in Snuff many of you will think this statement a little odd... (snuff are not really a pirate corp, just a pvp corp that opperates out of low sec) but real pirates do have "honour" if you pay us then we should honour that contract.
To be honest, I see very few true pirate corps in New Eden.. can't remember the last time I heard of someone being ransomed or extorted. |

Every time i read about how harsh the world is, therefore justifying the ingame behavior of an *******. I think of the fact that, in the real world previously mentioned, being a douche might very well end up having to deal with a combination of fists and feet coming your way. Creating a situation where, if you were not really up to the state of badassness you pretended to be, you could suffer a huge amount of pain for a long long time or even death. Not the kind of death that costs money and some setback in progression. The kind of death that leads to you, not being able to pretend to be anything anymore.
So please, for the sake of our intelligence, keep the harshness of the real world to the real world and enjoy the fact that you can die several times in an hour and still pretend to be a badass mother ******. I can assure you that none of those i know that can beat every one they meet without a sweat actually play any kind of video game at all... they train hard and eat healthy.

Ditto. CCP pretty much killed piracy as a profession as far as I'm concerned. Jump drives, among other things. I was one though. And I mean actual pirate, not -10 PvPer that gets all their money carebearing in high. I got at least ~85% of my income from people farming and ransoms. You kill the ship you get scraps. Ransoming is much more profitable. If you don't honor the ransom people stop paying. It's bad business. There was a time when this kind of behavior was looked down upon. Bur Khurelem wrote:Love it OP. I support your pirate-y actions. They're not piratey actions. They're the actions of an opportunistic PvPer, not a professional.
What this guy says. That's real piracy.
Sadly without a carebearing alt in high or null this type of carrier is not an option in Eve.

If they didn't want to engage in role play and simply kill on sight, they should have done that.
But they chose to role play, and then backed out of their role play obligations, and ruined the experience for both their victim and other pirates who choose to role play.
the sad part is they can't be punished for this. Other racketeering pirates can't chase them down and make them stop what they're doing since there's no real concept of death in this game. Okay they'll blow their ship up and then what? Scrubs are gonna scrub.
If you're a pirate, act like a pirate

There is no honor in Eve, there has never been.. What I did is nothing compared to all other fu**tards running accounts.
He's lucky we only killed one.
He offered me 325 million to jump 7 capitals into my system.. He stated that once he jumped them in, it was his problem. He didn't even wonder why there were only 20 people in coms and I told him that we had about 50-60 "protecting" him, he also never mentioned a rorqual.. If any other poor nub would come and ask me for the same thing & literally offered me a quarter of what his ships are worth to help him; I / WE would do it again.
