I'm curious what you think would be different in New Eden, or changes that should be made if there were ever a Real Cash Economy Server for EVE.
I would love to play on such a server personally.
I'm curious how some of you feel it could work.

Being able to play this game for free is the reason so many players prefer mind-numbing ISK grinding to going out and having fun. And now you suggest legalizing RMT.
Do you want to see EVE dead for some reason? Because that is the surest way to kill it.

It already is, you can buy Plex and in turn buy anything you want.
If you are asking if you could pay other players? Why when the system we have works very well.
Your question is very vague. |

Google "Diablo 3 real money auction house" to see how well what I think it is that your suggesting would work.

No, thank you.
But it would be interesting to collect all the salt and tears of those already whining about every shyte in EVE when they would see what real P2W is like.

You got a game like BF2 that provides server-side software. So, I'm thinking people aware of this sort of thing imagine owning the EVE "server-side" package. They rent a couple of blades, configure the game how they like; skins and so on - and then....
Offer in-game stuff on a site for cash, only on these servers, it's LEGAL! How tantalizing a thought - if you don't want to work for a living!
If I were EVE's corporate attorney, I'd say, "No way," to suggesting making the code public in such a way.
But, there's the other factor I find interesting in ideas like this. It's always, "Let's subvert THIS game to our OWN purposes." Yes, it takes money to make money, and if your game is already designed for you, why not use it as a platform to make real money?? Sort of like, "If the money is already earned, and it's just sitting in a bank, why not let US withdraw it...even if we have to use masks and pistols to do it?"
One day one of these people might say, "You know, I'm going to fund, design and develop a game and it's going to be....ta da ta da ta da - (playing with a RCE server!)" BUT, you know and I know that's never going to happen. These are just not that sort of people. These people need to let someone else do the work first, then they come in and earn the money with it.
What's an interesting question for folks who suggest things such as this, "Who are you going to be in this mix?" Why, of course, they're the one who'll be SELLING you stuff, while saying, "Don't you just HAVE to be able to buy stuff for this??? It's only RIGHT!"

I actually tried Entropia for a split second. When I realized there was pretty much nothing to do without some kind of cash always flowing into the game I looked around for a better game. I have made New Eden my home since. |

No, the OP is talking about going the other way. Being able to make a living off EVE. Two of the main good ways to make a living off games is twitch/youtube reviews/tutorials and e-comp. Eve has no e-comp that I know of, it would be a good addition. But a RM auction house is not a good way to make a living off a game.
EQ2 did this with a couple servers. Those servers never got a high population so there was less demand and more supply, which didn't help prices. So while the guy I talked to made $10k in the first month or two, he could not sustain that kind of income at all. Basically, you have too many kids and players from third world countries that think $1 an hour is great income. So they flood the market with goods and make a sustainable income unattainable for a typical adult gamer that might like to make a job out if a game.
If EVE did this, the same thing might well happen. The farmers move in and just drive prices down as supply overwhelms demand.
My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

RCE is much more than just a cash auction house. Every item in the game has a value. Every projectile round, every ship.
This isn't about me wanting to make a living in EVE really. I'm just very curious to see how the world of EVE changes when things are "serious".
You want a die hard world of PVP and industry? There you go. Every decision you make, friendship, betrayal, expansion etc, means something quite literally.
I'm not saying it would be the most popular server by any stretch, but, I think it would draw in a whole new dynamic of people to the game. You would have to change some mechanics of the game to reflect the way the RCE economy should work.
For example, making structures much more difficult to destroy, etc.
I'm sure it will never happen, but it would be something worth thinking about as I would love the rush of playing EVE in a RCE.

The problem with RCE just as everything else involving actual money is, that it shifts the balance from factors ingame to factors outside of the game. If I have a million bucks to play with I am already off to a better start.
That being said, I am very much opposed to the notion of a second "live" server, no matter it's nature. Eve is a single universe where all players play on the same server and every event can potentially be witnessed by every other player. And that's cool - let's not break it more than it is already. OP, as you personally can attest (I believe), players directly funding games with RL cash is not necessarily a ticket to glory.

Part of the attraction to EVE is the sandbox. Yes, you can go play on the development servers but there ISK has little meaning from what I understand.
Adding in a RM server would only dilute the player pool in the normal system. You'd either have very rich people building virtual empires there, or very poor people scraping out a small amount of real money in the game. The average player would remain in the main sandbox.
Eve already has real life consequences, as do all games of this type. They take time to play. They require money to start and/or excel at the highest levels/fastest rates. They also have social/family consequences for most of the players.
You might be a person that finds financial risk/play combinations as important. I suggest you might be in the wrong game. Card, dice and roulette wheels may be more to your tastes if you like that financial thrill to go along with your risk. |

No. It would become a complete failure of a game like Entropia. Instead of playing for fun you end up working instead, and for realistically less then what you would make at an actual job. The way Entropia seems to work is you pretty much have to put in money first to really get setup, and while some people may collect large amounts out. It's not a steady source because you're never going to have large enough populations to afford to keep playing it. |
