I hope this hasn't already been proposed, but ... sorry for being redundant if it has. I'm wondering if CCP has ever considered adding an Auction feature to its in-game markets or contracts system. Usually when I sell something, there are a range of prices I might accept. The current system seems a bit static. Certainly a seller can repeatedly check their sell orders and change the price as needed. However, I think it may be really interesting to see a price system that's more actively driven by buyers than by sellers. Last minute purchase "sniping" in eve might be really interesting (and very much in line with the sort of cut-throat sandbox world that already exists).
Maybe consider an auction design somewhat like the way eBay works. Allow players to sell items by setting a starting bid price, a minimum (hidden) "reserve" price to sell, and a time frame for expiration of the auction. Then, lets see what the market will bare by watching the bidding. I think it may make the markets and/or contracts more dynamic and interactive. Also, keep the "buy it now" price option, that is essentially what the current market place is.
The simplest change to the market or to contracts might be to add the option to "make an offer" to allow a bid, counter bid dynamic to develop between players.

Create contract. Check the box that says "Auction"
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Hello, Mr Carebear. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

lol, yes I guess what I'm proposing is a bit of a change to this. But, yes, an auction does exist for contracts. |

You can already do this with buy orders.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.
