If a pilot clicks "align to" in order to prepare to warp, then it should do whatever is needed in order to allow the ship to warp afterwards. We shouldn't have to try to zoom in to max zoom and micro manage manual flight controls in order to get around any objects that might be in the way, in the middle of a fight. That is all part of aligning to the destination. And if the ship does have to navigate around an object, then it should do so at some speed other than DEAD SLOW, like at the full speed of the particular ship. There is nothing more aggravating than having done your alignment well in advance, and then later an enemy enters the system, so you tell your ship to warp to the pre-prepared location, and when it should take 3 seconds, it ends up taking a full minute because there was some object (in my case a tiny asteroid) that didn't even show up on the screen when zoomed out, but the ship refuses to move around it until after the enemy comes a minute later and scrams it, and you lose both a ship and all the implants that your character had, all because of nothing that you did. There has to be some Intelligence in the flight assistance AI. If the game doesn't want to make the AI smart enough to know how to navigate around objects at a reasonable speed, then can we at the very least have it pretend that the object isn't blocking travel, just like it currently pretends that the planets aren't in the way once it reaches warp speed? |

Really, situational awareness is a thing. You should try using it.
The navigational AI is dumb as a post because it's supposed to be an aid, not do everything for you.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.

there you go .. u lost your ship cos u did nohting else then hit Align ( with by definition will set your ship to be in the same line as the target) if u want something to make sure there is nohting in front of you .. there would be better ways to improve the game , but not like u sugsest ..
ill flush your ideas down the drain and give u idea about collision detector .. would be more suited in your case ..
either some sound signal that beeps when ur front end is 100m (customizable distance ofc) from a collidable object and something to make beep when something is coming too close to you .. or some visual aids warning you ..
EVElopedia < add this to your sig to show u WANT it back

I don't because it is the difference of good pvpers versus the bad ones. It is always up to everyone to stay bad or bite the nail and train to become good.
Things like aim-bots and "auto-positioning" would make EVE just a copy of Counterstrike.
Eve Minions is recruiting. Learn from about pvp, learn about ships and how to fly them correctly. Small gang and solo action in high, low and nullsec and w-space alike.
We will teach you everything you need and want to know.

Things like aim-bots and "auto-positioning" would make EVE just a copy of Counterstrike. But I had auto-positioning when I mined. Granted it was because I'd warp to the belt in a frigate and figure out the best places to set bookmarks 10km above or below the plane of the belts, but those bookmarks usually held true through the respawn of the belt.
Oh, wait, nevermind. I put :effort: into what I did, which seems to be the antithesis of the carebear mentality. Why put in :effort: when you can ask CCP to do it for you?

The issue is the hitboxes often extend well beyond the visible object. Therefore you can't simply be aware of what's around you. You have to be aware of invisible walls which you can't see until you bounce off them.
So, bumpboxes are a huge issue, and we do need improved systems for them. And a basic improved warp/align which says 'Hey I bumped this object twice, lets try going out a bit before continuing' would benefit both players and NPC's. Doesn't have to be super smart to auto avoid everything, but not as dumb as currently. |

I remember the urban rumor of the guy who bought a brand new RV, got it on the highway, activated the cruise control, then left the driver's seat and went in the back to make a sandwich. The align command works much like the cruise control on a pre-recall Toyota, with the driver watching Netflix on his phone. You go in a straight line at full speed until you hit something.

I too, want my car to navigate around obstacles that could prevent it from reaching its max speed when I floor accelerator pedal, since it's a part of, you know, actually accelerating. Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding meaning of "acceleration" now because I'm too used to practical ramifications of acceleration to remember what acceleration actually means.

NO
Why
Because learn to manually pilot your ship. Because situation awareness as mentioned earlier. Because the current method helps separate the really good pilots from the rest and eliminating that would be bad.

If it is that hard for you to determine where the collision spheres are then go teach yourself how to determine where they are it really is a simple thing to do for most of the things you may bump up against.
No I will not give you detailed instructions on how to train yourself to judge the collision spheres because that is yet another of the things that separates the good pilots from the rest. I will give you 2 clues though. Cov-Ops cloaks and Asteroids. |
