What would you be playing, if EVE wasn't around anymore?
Any games remotely similar? even if not space related?

I would go back to practicing and playing Forged Alliance, for sure. But what I get from Eve is that sense of permanence, that things roll from the cause and effect of days, weeks and years - and not just from a single round. Three fact that a very dedicated and knowledgeable player base has resurrected it and balanced the factions make it even more appealing than when I was in my early twenties. |

It's my permanent game too.
Everything else is just a side game, or a fad. Like mass effect; and fallout 4 when I get around to it.

I already play a lot of other games like Elite, Rebel Galaxy, Grim Dawn and so on. The only thing changing in a Post-EVE world would be me having a bit more money and free time every month. |

I'd be playing other sci-fi or fantasy games, MMO or otherwise. In fact, I have taken breaks from EVE; there are other games out there that have been or are worth playing, not limited to Fallout, SWTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, X3AP, and other series.
I'd say X3AP is kinda like a solo EVE, but different at the same time. Current game in the X series is X-Rebirth, which wasn't all that good when released, and may or may not have been improved (currently in its second expansion).
Anyway, there are other games, EVE is special but not unique. |

The cause and effect going on on an ongoing basis, that's what makes EVE special to me. I'd be interested in hearing if any other games have something similar.
These aren't remotely like EVE, but I play the Close Combat games on the side. Pretty intense and realistic RT tactical wargames. If you make a bad decision, you really feel it.

"Remotely similar"? No. Eve is an unique social experiment, even now, past its prime.
As for the "what to play", well, Elite: Dangerous and Stellaris are a thing. |

Eve has taken over almost all my gaming time, if it was not around, I would certainly play all sorts of sci-fi themed games, X3:AP, E:D, and would complain about X-Rebirth and Star Citizen. There are some games I'm looking forward to play though, like Mass Effect Andromeda, the new Doom (need a hardware upgrade for these ...), and of course Thimbleweed Park.

Only space game that really impressed me other than EVE Online was Star Control 2, so yeah... original Star Control 2. (If EVE didnt exist that is). So I would probably replay it again now that I am bit older and understand english much better than in past. |

You may be happy to know that SC2 was released on Good ol games.com (gog.com) with visual improvements. I really loved the way that game felt. It was fun, like playing Astroids, except they maneuver and shoot back. But Eve will forever be different than most games. Because you can be bad with a spaceship and still be good at Eve if you are good with people. You can be terrible with people, but still get a hoot from playing. I can't say it's like poker. If poker were like Eve, the companion girls would be the masterminds.

I'de probably do what I do now. Havnt been playing EVE a lot lately, been doing other stuff. Got a in house girlfriend and there's other stuff I want to play when i have the time. Spend more time on the forum then playing right now. Trying to find something to get me back into it.
Elite dangerous can suck my nuts lol. Its a really neat game and I want to play it but its so damn unforgiving even in offline mode that it's infuriating. Plus the way the company handles "expansions" is rediculouse. Been sticking to fallout 4, battlefield 4, and speed grinded my way to 30 in the division, now there's no reason to play it lol. No man's sky will be coming out in a couple of months and that will take up a lot of my time. If you don't know what it is, check it out, they are not exagerating when they say how large the galaxy and planets are. Still doesn't seem possible. Real world sized planets in a galaxy so large that if you discovered a planet every 5 seconds, our own sun would die and burn out before you found them all.
Then sometime GT7 is supposed to come out and support the morphious, so I'll be looking for a PS4 wheel and pedals and puking on the dash of my virtual Ferrari. |

For me, Eve isn't around anymore so it's back to reality. That means losing the 64 pounds I've gained while playing this game for over 2 years and buying make up again so I can look decent enough again to get a date and so forth. As for gaming, I'm playing the Witcher series now which is a fresh reminder of what a real game should be like.....You know, a game with character progression, realistic, unchanging game mechanics........... |

I'd simply play the games I play besides Eve more often, not sure what would, if anything could really, replace Eve. Beyond that, not much else would change really on my end. I don't really spend enough time in Eve for it to dominate my time of day for it's absence, if it were ever true, to be such a big change of things.
We would have never had the pleasure of the Clear Skies movies, so that would suck to not have seen. I would have missed out on RnK's great movies. Garmonation would never have been a thing, nor any of the other old video compilations from years ago. We'd have missed Dark Ride, Fishbowl, Flash Over, Jalification, Korvorix, Vindication, and the likes.
I'd probably go to the movies more often. Maybe; more movies these days seem like cheap mistakes that should have never made it to the big screens and would have served mankind better to going straight to DVD instead.

I actually have no clue what I would do. I tried ED and it lasted for about 2 weeks which sucked as I bought a $240 HOTAS setup just for the game. Truthfully I never thought Id be here this long as I left after a year and a half and didnt think Id be back but here I am like 8 or 9 years later. I dont think any game will ever grab me like Eve did so I doubt Ill find one.

You guys would crush me until I could get my sea legs back. I was never great at micro. I'm more of a psychological player. Loved those RTS since Total Annihilation and Red Alert. I still remember the time some dude hyperspaced his entire armada above my mother ship in Homeworld. Eve makes micro a breeze by comparison, even in frigate combat. I have the game ready but not updated with the most recent patches though the FA Forever community, which even has a Mumble server open to registered players that they use for ladder matches. They are alive and well. YouTube is regularly updated with commentary on matches, both low and high profile. FA is probably the only game that can tear me away from Eve if it weren't for the fact that you can drink heavily while playing Eve and still be over 80%. |

Oh, we'd all be crazy rusty and we're all over the skill spectrum. One of my friends is a monster at macro *and* micro, and generally wins any game he's in (the dirty Cybran bastard), but the rest of us are all pretty average players. We play all the races too, except AFAIK no one mains Seraph.
We also often do odd game modes. The most popular one we ever played with strangers (even found other people using our rules randomly, it was very fun) was Shards as a 4v4, where each of the central islands was a 1v1 across, and the other 2 players on each team were either east or west. It turned into some very interesting simultaneous fighting with tons of cross-map supply lines. In one of the more memorable matches, I locked down the center of my island as UEF and started ferrying Percivals en masse to the other island, where the aforementioned Cybran player was demolishing my teammate. We managed to turn that around till his ally's navy intercepted our supply chain, at which point my ally fell and I turned the Percival production on my island opponent and killed him outright too. Every game had really interesting dynamics like that. |

I don't know what I would play. New games now days claiming to be MMOs just seem cheap and hollow. They look good, but as far as game play there is nothing to them. EVE is one of a kind, that's for sure. Been playing it on and off for 10+ years and there is still a lot of stuff I have never done. Personally, I would love to see a driving/racing game, something like The Crew but as deep and complex as EVE. Will probably never happen though. |

I have been playing Football Manager series since late 90s and Civilisation IV for like a decade as well (and still do at times), which are some of the most addictive and life consuming games.
Also managed to clock like 200 days of playing time (that's 2400 hours) in WoW when it used to be decent, and was also big into Sims 2 with all the expansion packs and like 10 gigabytes of player created mods (including the ones I made myself).
And of course, countless hours have been sucked up by Baldur's Gate, Final Fantasy, various FPS and racing games, NBA 2K series, GTA series, etc, etc.
I am very fond of eve and have played it for many years, but computer games have been a big part of my life since I was a child (used to play on Apple II in 80s) that I have absolutely no doubt if there was no eve, I would have spent that time just playing some other games.
