My buddy and I just started playing eve (like maybe a week at most ago) and basically all we have been doing is mining in order to build up some money. However we've started discussing our next move and I think we want to go the way of exploration.
What would be the best ships (that beginners can get) for general exploration / salvage(or mining) we want to explore but also still want to be able to make some money through salvage and mining....unless there are better was to make money as newbies =P
thanks in advance everyone!
(OH! we are both Gallente and so far all we have trained between the two of us is Him: Mining, salvage, bunch of weapon systems. Me: mining, salvage, ship commander and Im thinking about training exploration related skills like radar and sensors and drones. i dont think either of us have done training toward ships other than what you start out with.
if it matter he is a Gallente, Gallente and Im a Gallente Ikanjirei (whatever the race of Gallente is that starts with the letter I lol) |

Herron, Magnate, Imicus and Probe
All T1 frigates and are really cheap to buy :)
Core probe launcher with probes and data/relic analyser.
5mn Microwarp Drive and your choice of low slots :)
Skills wise, you want hacking and archaeology for your analyzers
p.s the imicus is gallente |

Also look up the EvE-Scout chat channel in game, it's where lots of explorers hang out and you'll get some great advice from like minded players. |

EVE University guide on exploration.
EVE University guide on skills training. Your character race doesn't matter much; pretty much the only thing it affects is your portrait. You can still train any ship you want, with no penalties. So you guys should look in-game at the Ships Chart and / or read the various guides about the ships in EVE, and then based on what you want to do, plan on training a progression of ships from T1 frigates to bigger (cruisers, battleships) or to specialized (T2 exploration frigates or cruisers, for example).
Keep in mind that this game is a PVP game. You can do PVE but there's always the chance of attacks from other players, and the game focuses on PVP combat more than on bland PVE stuff. |

Rather than start another thread...
Couple related questions -
1. With a T1 scanning ship (Heron, magnate, etc.) and a non-sisters t1 scan probe launcher loaded with T1 scanning probes, what are the minimum skills required (not counting player experience), to get into and out of a wormhole system?
2. With a T1 non-scanning frigate (Merlin, Rifter, etc ) , and the same gear as per above, what are the minimum skills required to reliably get into and out of a wormhole system?
--- Circa apocrypha the above was a nightmare and seemingly impossible. (it's possible that being new to eve during that era made it worse, but that said, other generic eve activities seemed to work out). I read "While exploration does not strictly require Astrometrics as much as it did pre-Odyssey," in the eve uni exploration write up and am left wondering what it's like for new characters today. |

I had level 2 probe skills for the 2.75 years I lived in w-space. I would use whatever ship was available, typically a Heron, Buzzard, or Tengu.
I have probed my way through w-space in an Orca with level 4 probing skills.
Wormholes are easy to probe; they are generally the largest signatures. High quality sites tend to have very small signatures, which can be frustratingly difficult with level 2 probe and ship skills, but not a problem with level 4.
Keep in mind this was before probing implants and probing bonus modules existed. It is easier now with those.

Eve-scout might even be recruiting, and every interaction I've ever had with them is pleasant. They are a very friendly bunch, I co-habitate with a few and they are always willing to give a Sig or bookmark whenever I ask. |

Mynxee has pretty much an "always on" policy with recruiting, but she is dead serious about sticking to the credo with your in corp character(s)
That said, I love Mynxee to death and cant think of a better place for the true explorers out there.

If you do the Exploration Agent Missions you get a ship and eventually the gear to do exploring. The Agent Missions are the best instructors for the process.
Eventually, you'll find that you'll be drawn to the Sisters of EVE ships, the Astero and Stratios. While pricey (both in ISK and Skill Requirements), they are pretty much the best exploration ships in the game ATM.

With a friend you have so many options.
I suggest you start with CovOps and being able to warp while cloaked. The Astero is nice but for basic hacking it's more expensive than you need. Then work into T3 cruiser of your choice. Maybe check out the Venture or Prospect for gas mining in W-space. Those are quick trains. Eventually things like Blockade Runners and Recons can be handy. Being able to light covert cynos makes you a Blops FC's favorite guy ever.
Consider first....what sounds like fun? Planning out a quick incursion into null sec with a couple CovOps or Asteros working in tandem to scan relic/data sites is quick and easy, with minimal losses if you do get caught. Gas mining in WH space would be another neat thing to do in tandem. Also a great intro to basic FC'ing. Someone should be in charge, even if you are largely operating independently.
Once you get those basics, mix it up by maybe bringing T3 cruisers and a mobile depot. Then you can move around null sec/W-space relatively safely, refit to scan, hack, run anoms, PvP.....You can experiment with having one guy run boosters or be logi....then refit and sneak right back out.
