You brought a lag to the battle, nothing more. If you were skilled fighters you would have brought equal numbers of skilled battleship pilots to match what was assembled to face you. Instead you jumped in tech1 crap, there was simply nothing these ship types could do to our snipers, therefore i have to assume you intended to lag the system.
I hope you feel proud.
This is just naive.
Both sides had difficult strategic decisions to make but to say one side was without hope is just ignorant.
We had spies in system and there the numbers we got were 140ish BS in sniping positions and 80 to 100 support right on the gate.
Also about 12 carriers with fighters assigned to gate.
That was what you fielded -vs- approx 1000 BS/Cruiser/Frigate gang.
I don't know what would have happened but neither side was going to get steamrolled without a lot of bloodshed.
sure we would have got a good fight from your bs support, but the cruisers would serve no purpose in the ensuing lag (jamming/damping?) not likely.
By jumping 1000 pilots into the system you must have known it would crash?

But if 5% of you all try to get into the same system, it's not going to happen!
You know to me, it great to be part of a game where the technology is 2nd to none, and is getting better all the time, but come on! CCP were aware that this was going to happen, but what do they do? Nada! they have one poor Dev sat at the end of his bed (hopefully he had his boxers on at least) at 6am, and why? because a GM wakes him up..
This should not have been the case surely! after 3 years of subscription to the best game out there, I find it unbelievable that more staff were not available to try to rectify this! or even prevent it.
As to all the " my ships better than your ship " " we had a 1000 ships to your 500 ships", so we would have whipped your bottykins rubish. who is to know what would have happened? all that did happen was to show CCP of been very lacking! (from my point of view)
But there is always tomorrow, and LV will be victorious!

Then your intel was incorrect and you were jumping to your doom. Our entire fleet (except capitals) was still on the gate, waiting to destroy anything that came in. You would very likely have lost that battle after your initial force jumped into us. Then your logoffskis would have come in, reacting to the poor choice to jump in, and another fight would have happened, then your other reinforcements that were on the way would have come in to whatever was left (if anything) of our defenders. (Or any other of a myriad of different possibilities.. too bad we will never know)
Noone had gone to the PoS, save maybe a handful of people warping on their own. The bulk of our fleet was still in position before the first node crash.
And you people wonder why we have no respect for you. Posting smack on an alt about intel that was apparently provided by a monkey.
What a great deal of assumptions about your enemy there..you know what I think? I think Jovians would suddenly appear out of nowhere and wipe out both entire fleets and blow up the entire system with a jovian doomsday device, and then go eat chili, because farting is the only humour they have left. - New sig in the workings -Knowledge is a priviledge, not a right - ....*steals a cookie from the ISD cookie yarr* >_> |

Distribute the fleet to cover the systems AROUND the POS, and starve it out. It sounds like you've got enough people to make darn effective camps, and enough again to run a rolling patrol to reinforce any attempted break-ins.
But that would distribute the load across several nodes, lead to actual fighting, and seems like a sound battle plan. My mistake, forward thine blob!
This is a good example of why people that do not have a clue, should just be quiet. Did you ever look at the system you are talking about, before giving your superior master's advice?
Why the hell can most of the defending force not log in again, while the attackers are hammering our POSes at with hundrets of BS and dreads...

Why am I the only one thinking of these things?
Your not the only one thinking, but tell me, do you seriously believe they are going to be cynoing fuel into anything but a POS tower?
especially as this is a system with a station, so they need sov towers anyway. The Light in the Darkness

Here's what LV will never understand. Nobody is looking for your respect or to be seen as being "honourable" in your eyes. We are going to pound seven shades of the proverbial out of you and watch your alliance drown in its arrogance.
If you'd like me to post from a thread from LV's own forums in which two pilots put forth a crashing the node strategy I can do that. You don't even display the e-honour you hold so dear, how sad is that.

Guess you missed the part where I said "Or any other of a myriad of different possibilities.. too bad we will never know" I was simply playing out some possibly logical progressions to the battle.
But I AM right about the monkey.
I didn't even get to lose a ship in this engagement, because I was unable to log in for 3.5 hours straight. At any rate, I'm going to sleep now. Again, congratulations on breaking EVE.

Originally by: Zixxa Heh, don't cry so bitter, dude, Ragoon and Co will kill you and your precious titan. Because 1000 of frigs and cruisers backed up with few hundreds BS and few dozens of capital ships.
Why bother with this sort of pointless statement? Let's stick to what we know happens to frigs, support and BS's that are stuck in a huge bubble camp shall we...
lot's of them die. Like that first little fleet you lot sent in.
We know what lots of assigned fighters and sniping BS can do to BS's trapped in bubbles. Let's face facts... both sides would have lost a LOT of ships. We know what Titan weapons can do to masses of smaller ships too.
The real point I think has been made clear today is that:
a. EvE just isn't upto this level of battle, b. and until it's impossible to crash a system by sheer numbers, until it's impossible to escape being killed when trapped in a bubble by hammering CTRL-Q, until it's impossible to leave an entire short range fleet logoffskied in an enemies system (WTF.. why can't they be probed down?!) and until SOV claiming corps/alliances can place system defenses (like sentries in empire)... building stuff in Capital Ship Arrays is going to be a horrible risk.
It's a real shame we can't even say GF to each other.
I've been up over 24 hours now, I've been trying to log either of my accounts into JV1V since it first went down (still no luck) and it's fair to say this was the worst day of EvE since I started playing.
Have fun beating your war drums whilst I sleep.

Oh, before I go to bed, I wanted to offer thanks to Valar for waking up in the middle of the night to at least attempt to fortify JV1V for us bunch of crazy EVE-addicted people. That could not have been pleasant, and I have to wonder how much smoke was coming out of that poor server. Valar, even if you couldn't stabalize it for us, you tried, and tried, and tried, and tried again, and I think that's about all any of us could ask.

Edited by: Vorick on 16/02/2007 07:58:36 The goons can't defend themselves here, but I can speak for them.
Obviously the node crashes were cursed by both parties. LV had an incredibly formidable fleet, by some accounts as many as 400 well fitted ships and an absolutely insane number of warp bubbles on the gate. The coalition had, from what I can gather, 800 ships waiting to gate in (battleship heavy), 500 ships logged out in system (frigate heavy), and 70 capital ships ready to jump in even before the system was cleared.
How the battle would have gone would have been determined by how the server handled it. In an ideal world where all 1300 coalition ships could enter the battle instantly with no lag, they would have swarmed over the defending ships and quickly destroyed them. In a more realistic situation of heavy lag, the LV fleet could have sniped the ships as they trickled in from long range, with the cruisers and frigates trapped in the bubble and unable to return fire. I'm not saying they would have won (nor am I saying they wouldn't have), but it would have been an incredibly bloody battle.
And then there's node crashes. Again, it could have gone either way, if the node had stayed down until the POS had self-recharged and an LV member managed to put more stront in the hangar, it would have been a victory for LV. What actually happened, the server crash dumping everyone out and allowing the coalition to flood the system meant a victory for them.
I find it interesting that with no server problems, LV would have lost, and with the server problems they had they did lose. They just didn't get the server problems they needed.
That said, the goons did not want the node to crash any more then LV did. For example, they ordered frigates not to jump or log-in in hope of alleviating the problems, whereas if they'd really been trying to crash the node to open a beachhead they would have ordered all the frigates to jump in first. The sheer numbers probably made a crash inevitable, but the coalition had no choice but to field that money in the face of LV's enormous defense fleet.
So... what I'm wondering is, can you petition a loss from lag if you still would have lost it without the lag?

Seems like everyone had the same opportunities to log in with the black screen.
LV decided they'd rather petition and whatnot instead of try and come in and defend against the coalition. If they had to go to work or whatever. . .hey, too bad. Next time don't let your POS come out of reinforced whenever your guys can't be around to defend it.
The cut and dry version of the LV whines goes like this:
You darn Goons!
You chose to log in a bunch of people instead of jumping in a few at a time so we could slaughter you!
We couldn't hang around to defend the system and so it's ALL your fault for trying to log in so many people!
Cry!
