The author should have thought twice when he wrote that EVE is boring but has fanatic players. That doesn't fit together.
One thing he has right: Eve is hard on noobs. When CCP wants new players they don't need new content but a better UI. They are good at making an ultra complex game but really bad at UI making. Yesterday I was searching for an error in a new PI and it took me quite a while to find out that I forgot to route something. There was no error message but the plant was happily working, it just dumped the results..... . Or you can't distinguish a basic from an advanced factory or......... It's not just the PI but the whole UI ist really bad, just take the fitting window. That everyone is using 3rd party tools should tell CCP that there is something very wrong and new players don't know Tripwire, EVEmon, EFT, Uni-Wiki etc.
1 designer with a lot of game UI experience would get CCP more players then 10 proggers making content (both would be the jackpot ) |

Lets not forgot about some other features that are clunky as hell or just really unrefined. Setting up Moon Mining comes to mind.
I think some things that CCP could really improve on would have to be some quality of life things. It would make handling sharp edged boxes a bit easier for players. |

'Eve is dead' is a meme which reigns since years. Players who can't use/play in a sandbox are not long time subscribers to Eve. And Thema other way round: a sandbox isn't something for 5Million people. Eve will never reach numbers like wow.
Eve is the most complex and fun game i've ever played. You have to get past the high sec wall and everythings more fun ;) |

EVE is not boring even if you don't do Ship to Ship PvP.
It's different strokes for different folks...
Some folks find playing the market, mining ore, and building things interesting. Just look at Minecraft's success... it's basically Lego's online at its core.
I know that to Combat seekers, all the other stuff seems like snoozeville, but that's what's awesome about EVE, it has a massively broad appeal.
Why doesn't it do better? There are a lot of reasons that have been discussed forever. Until CCP has a clear path that everyone can swallow to increase it's usability, the separation of player abilities, and appropriate protections for all manner of activities in the game... well, it will stay what it is. CCP is focused on content to keep the current player base happy. It will take some serious commitment from CCP -AND- the player base to want to grow the game. CCP does not have the resources to do it alone.

He appears to be right, which makes it all the more amusing that Mittani would publish a piece like the IWI online casino stuff :) So I guess he's a failed lawyer after all. Twisting law and facts to suit his own little dream world, but I guess that's what all lawyers do?

The words "ethics"and "journalism" are, by many people, in general received with either utter disbelief or howls of laughter. They are corrupt and unethical, the whole lot, and i'm not only talking about The MIttanis multi-rupia media empire!

Not entirely true, you can find journalists that belong to the ethical school. They are very hard to find these days so I'll agree with the reception comment. I was reading an article written by one of them over a year ago. In it, the author pointed out their own biases, stated only facts, and when writing what connections might exist between the facts clearly stated it was only possible and that many other possibilities existed. The author ended with a summary paragraph that was concise and referenced previous information cleanly. THAT should be Pulitzer award winning stuff, not the pseudo-editorial stuff most journalists practice now.
As for the whole dustup, I think this is now a cautionary tale about media interaction, player perception, where propaganda fails, and how important it is to actually keep a positive image as a leader.
