When forming a fleet with only yourself, does the targeting speed bonus of the Leadership skill apply? Are there any disadvantages to wandering about in a one person fleet? For example, will it be noticeable and perhaps draw undue attention? Or, as another example, does commanding a fleet prevent the leader from doing certain things like cloaking? |

You require at least one other person in a squad under the commander to gain bonuses.

As for the disadvantages there are none, wandering around in one allows you to do anything you would not in one and noone else knows you are in a fleet but the people in that fleet. That being said there are special cases where others can see whos in your fleet or where you are in space but that wont be within your realm of understanding atm in the game. Bonuses are applied as the above posters have said.

That's talking down to a person. It would be within his realm of understanding if you explained.

Being in a fleet prevents fleet invites from others. You can also block chat and duel requests in your settings menu.
A fleet invite can be used to discover if someone is already fleeted. Send them an invite and watch the message you receive (it is automatic). There is also a thing called 'smacktalk' which will prevent someone from jumping gates (for a few seconds) after joining a fleet.

Accepting a fleet invite triggers a session change timer, the grey circle at top left. I think it's 10s, this can be long if you are in hostile environment not being able to jump or dock. I once almost lost my ship to the local navy, was able to jump out in structure ...

If fleet related skill bonuses do not apply, are there any advantages at all to being in a fleet by yourself?

The main one is that if you suddenly find yourself needing to get someone into fleet with you, you don't have to create a new fleet, and thus give yourself a session change timer.
The downside is, if someone needs to quickly get you into fleet with them, you have to drop your fleet first, or all fleet invitations will be auto-rejection.
They are extreme edge cases though -- Most of the time there is no benefit or disadvantage to being in a fleet. |

One its a longer more indepth explanation that isnt necessary if THIS is the question they are asking atm. Its like telling a kid there is more to gravity than it makes apples fall on your head but because you are 5 you will learn those later on.
Context and timing are king.

I was curious and did some experimentation. Forming a fleet does indeed cause a session change timer of about 10 seconds whether you're in or out of dock. Leaving a fleet is the same. This is the same time reported by Tipa with regard to accepting a fleet invite: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6443382#post6443382. |
