Hello,
when I use cargo scan in exploration and find low value or empty can how can I mark it as useless or remove it from overview? Because if many of them in sight I can not remember which I checked and which not. |

As far as I know, you cant remove individual containers from overview? If its anything like wrecks, I cant just right click on one wreck and say "remove wreck from overview"...that would remove all of them.

Francis has the right of it, removing one will remove all , Cant remamber the exact keys offhand but you can tag them numericaly, check the keybindings in the esc menu.

That is the way to do it. Tag the containers with a letter or number, which will show up on the overview so you know you have already checked the container.
To use the tag function you need to be in a fleet (even if its a fleet of just one) and then the tag option appears in the r-click menu, when you r-click the container. You also need to have the tag coloumn enabled in the overview setting. Which is done through the overview settings menu, found by clicking the = symbol top left of the overview window. (Its not really a = sign, it just looks like one with my dodgy old man eye-sight)

Dont be a douchebag and leave sites half-completed, they wont despawn for hours, gimping yours and everyone else income stream.
If you have to skip cans in a site, make sure to fail a hack twice, so they explode and despawn.
There's nothing i hate as much as coming to a site and finding out that someone has already cherrypicked the good containers, leaving the bad ones behind.

Though I as a fellow explorer agree completely on this the issue is that EVERYONE have to do this because if they don-Št you would only help others without getting anything in return by not cherrypicking.
With that said I always clean my sites out since it feels rude to gimp other players just to save a few minutes of hacking. By doing this I also don-Št need to use the Cargo Scanner which leaves room for a more *fun* mod in that slot.

So if I get ganked spending extra time in a site hacking an empty container, you're going to reimburse my scanning ship, right?
OP, this is the best way I've found to do it: when you arrive in a new site, immediately lock up all the containers and scan them. Unlock the containers with garbage loot, and hack the remainder. |

However your idea is good except that most new players won't be able to lock multiple targets due to low skills. Also the ships targeting ability will limit the amount as well.
Until they skill up they can adapt your advice by looking at the ships orientation to the cans in a site after warping in and just scan the nearest ones first, then proceed forward always keeping the camera view in the same orientation.

The main issue players have early on when it comes to targetting ability is that they have been told to fit warpcore stabilizers which makes their targetting range suck. In my opinion warcore stabs aren-Št good for exploration, atleast not on a otherwise cheap T1-frigate, and that's both because of the mentioned horrible targetting AND more importantly that they give a false sense of safety for the player fitting them.
Agree 100 % on the cherrypicking though. |

I like to number the containers so that I am methodically approaching them in the shortest distance. It is easy to go back and forth and end up doing a lot of unnecessary travel between cans

The only time it's really necessary to fit a cargo scanner for exploring is for ghost sites when time is of the utmost importance.
The best way to do it is to hack the rubble cans last as they usually contain the lowest value loot, most of the time

Feel free to test it - that's what I did when this discussion came up 18 months ago.

If there is a threat of someone catching and attacking you than you are ninja-ing the site anyway...unless your dumb enough to try to do high sec sites with a wardec. But while you may think you are making more profit, your delaying the respawns of sites which means fewer sites to run which means you spend more time hunting for sites and less time looting them and it means you have more competition for those sites. So is it more profitable to cherry pick? Nope, all your doing is making it harder for you and everyone else. But go on and partially run then. People like to work harder than what is necessary for their money. |
