Ever since people figured out they could get their ships going fast, people have competed to see how fast, but there's lots of tricks people have used to buff that number to broken levels. From stacking mobility modules back in the day to POS shield launches and even going so low as photoshop.
I'm hoping for a final, definitive word on just how fast you can get a ship going. since just one penultimate record is no fun (and already claimed by this guy http://i.imgur.com/H3NS7Ct.jpg ) I'm going to have several leagues listed. I'll be making constant edits both here and on the forums to keep it updated as records inevitably get broken.
Since CCP is prone to buffing and nerfing, speed records will also be coupled with the game version they took place on and date where possible. I'm well aware of the 16,000m/s daredevils back in the day...and I envy them.
So, on to the event! Post your claim and a picture proving it to have your spot on the leaderboard. Question is: Is this more focused on legit fittings or is everything allowed? |

Does bouncing off the sun create a higher speed boost than bouncing out of a POS? |

Speed is the primary focus, but anybody has claim to the leaderboard. If you're using boosts or launches or overloading, then it goes into the Unleashed league instead of the standard league.

I notice a lot of those screenshots are in station. So I guess there's no requirement to reach the theoretical speed of the ship you fit, just to get the fitting window to display it?

Well so far the in-station ones have been small, light ships and the cap timeout has been over 30 seconds, so in theory they'd be able to reach it.
Actual flight images are preferred, though, preferably with an open window showing no fleet bonuses |

Well, this fit beats the current record in that Claw category, but no chance I can get it up to max speed before it depletes. Basically, once you put a giant, heavy MWD (~5 million kg) on a light ship (~1 million kg), it stops being a light ship.
I get it up to a little over 9k before I run out of cap.

got a friend with a cap transfer and another with fleet buffs? do some driveby refuelling and post your results, I could put it in the Unleashed category.
(I will also be asking Jalep to provide an in-flight image of that Claw, due to how low cap is in his image) |

I can overload it, though. That's always fun!

Congratulations to Lucian IV for shattering the all-time EVE speed record! The record of 63,762m/s set by Kane Rizzel in 2008 has been beaten today by Lucian IV, his Magnate beat out the previous record-holding Claw by an incredible 1,739m/s for a new record of 65,501m/s! |
