Maybe not the most important of all tasks but CCP should keep that somewhere on their todo list.
Mastery IV for carriers for example still requires Tactical Logistics Reconfiguration IV though you can no longer fit a triage module to carriers as that has moved to the force auxiliaries.
Also Capital Capacitor Emission or Capital Remot Shield Booster / Armor Repairer no longer make much sense. ;) |

I could understand this change needing to be made if each level of mastery actually provided a benefit of some sort. But you don't get anything for achieving any of the mastery levels. They're really just a guide for skills that will improve your effectiveness when flying whatever ship you're looking at. If you know that there are skills on the list for mastery lvl 4 that are no longer relevant, then ignore them. Who cares if neglecting them will prevent you from achieving mastery lvl 5? It's not like you're going to be rewarded for that achievement anyway.

Mastery levels are there as a general guide for newer pilots to gauge what they should learn for a particular hull. That said, if you're relying on those to tell you what you need to train for a capital ship, then you really don't belong in a capital ship. All you're going to do in that instance is provide someone a nice expensive killmail. I know this from experience.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Hello, Mr Carebear. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

-1 masteries should be removed they cause new players to think they are following a training guide that in the end means they train what they didn't need and the don't train what they do

I disagree. I like the masteries. They are a good guide, they just aren't the end all be all for what should be trained. But they are somewhat helpful. Of course it isn't necessary to have EVERYTHING trained up to level 5, but most of the skills that appear on masteries do contribute, regardless of how small the contribution is, to flying that mastery's respective ship more effectively. |

I agree, masteries should be accurate.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

Of course one can argue about whether masteries are useful or not.
But if you have them in the game then they also should be as accurate as possible.
I personally like them and use them as a source of information when creating my skill plans with evemon.
Not that I am strictly obeying to what the masteries propose, but they are a good place to start or see if you have missed some interesting skill. |
