CCP changed Catiz's skin color after she was made Empress. She went from being Beyonce colored to old Michael Jackson colored. There was also an interim portrait where she looked like this cool shaved-head cyberpunk with black lipstick. I did not like the skin color change without a lore explanation, but I like this "Brunette Jamyl" complete with bun and background even less.
If you have poor color range in your vision and can't tell the difference immediately just sample her recently changed portrait with the old one in Photoshop. The color difference is so radical that the difference in the makeup range for example would be ten shades. Sample from the midrange, not the highlights to be even fairer in your assessment.
This was a missed oppurtunity by CCP (who I imagine engineered the selection of Catiz all along) to rectify the common player's misconception that the Amarr war is nothing more than the American Civil War in space.
Can we please just have a nice conversation about this and not call the NAACP about it thanks. |

I've edited your post, please don't post personally identifiable information of the forums.
Also, a number of our NPC character portraits in the game are randomly generated, and don't necessarily reflect the appearance of the NPCs in question.
The bald, crazed look of Catiz Tash-Murkon was one of these instances.
We're working to clear these up, but they're not high priority at this point in time.

The old Catiz Tash-Murkon portrait was not generated, it was hand painted digitally I presume.
Also please remove the troll posts as well if you're going to edit my post thanks.
I have been told you are part of the lore team, which I was also told by multiple senior Amarr players didn't exist. If that's true why wouldn't you think it's a priority. What are the lore team priorities? |

What is the problem? You compare a portrait from years when eve used totally different engine to current one? Skin tone was just darker during this times. Examples : http://www.eve-avatars.com/?chribba (old much darker) http://www.eve-avatars.com/?Jari (old much brighter)

None of our in game portraits are digitally painted, not sure where you got that idea from.
In the past, several of them had additional effects added to them to give then a unique appearance, such as a specific filter or color tone over the whole image, however they're always generated using paparazzi, our ingame character rendering service.
This was only for the four heads of state at the time (Sarum, Heth, Roden & Shakor), along with Sansha Kuvakei who was used extensively around the time of the Incursion expansion.
At this point in time, this practice has been discontinued, and all our portraits are made using the same in game tools that players utilize to make their portraits.
Catiz Tash-Murkon had a randomly generated portrait for a long time (the emaciated shaved head with black lipstick look). She was updated a few months back to have a more presentable appearence, as were several of the other heirs, and a number of other NPCs.
This is an ongoing process, but it isn't a high priority for Team Murder Services (the lore team that apparently doesn't exist).

Well that is a surprise to me. (lore team) I was shocked to hear there wasn't one, probably less shocked to learn there is one. It isn't the first time I have been told something that is outright wrong and bad for my roleplay by senior players though. I'm glad you explained all of this Falcon as it is pretty important to me.
Since the old character engine was the portrait for Catiz on the Evelopedia which was linked in Help I assumed this was old character art.
Anthar Thebess wrote:What is the problem? You compare a portrait from years when eve used totally different engine to current one? Skin tone was just darker during this times. Examples : http://www.eve-avatars.com/?chribba
The truth is new players like me just can't be expected to keep up with such things as the true story of old engines and inexplicable randomly generated character art for major characters which changes at intervals for no reason. That is CCP's problem, if they do not want roleplayers to be confused then they need to fix them, it's as simple as that. It's impossible for us to make sense of it all. When other companies make a lore error they address it either by apologizing or rectifying it some way. Eve does not have the literally thousands of characters, hundreds of deeply well defined locations, and all sorts of creatures, items, and plot themes that all define the worlds these other companies manage. There are exactly two creatures, less than a dozen main characters (all poorly defined) and the systems are mostly the same everywhere you go. Unless you read the books you have no real way to connect the dots in the systems.
I didn't know anything about the old engine, I just like any newbie logged in and started following links in Eve to Evelopedia to brush up on my lore, the first thing I do when I get in a new game so I can decide who I will be. Roleplayers or just plain fans of sci fi or fantasy fiction are notorious for analyzing lore. It was common knowledge she was Udorian and *presumed* to have caramel color skin in a talking point in Imperial OOC chat channel at some point. Skin color does play a role in the racials, you cannot roll a True Amarrian with the same color as my Khanid Amarr here. Even though we can't roll full blood Udorian it is a part of the lore. |

a bit off topic but are the ccp employees given a complete custom avatar or are they created in the character editor that is available to players?

Udorians don't really exist anymore though, she may have the slightest bit of Udorian in her, but for all intent and purpose, she is true Amarr and is physically indistinguishable from other true Amarr.
BoBwins Law: As a discussion/war between two large nullsec entities grows longer, the probability of one comparing the other to BoB aproaches near certainty.

Her whole house is Udorian not True Amarr! "however, because she is Udorian, many conservatives dislike her."

(That being said just as on Earth there is no real "race" in humanity, as it is a scientific misnomer. This is with the exception of the Jove perhaps who probably cannot interbreed with other humans anymore and thus qualify as another species entirely. Not sure though.) |

I remember some time ago when Empress Jamyl's portrait changed. She got a haircut. She had nice long hair before that.
But being possessed by some otherworldy evil infomorph creature can do that. Good thing the Drifters put an end to this ruse.

Where did you get that from Golden?
from wiki about Udorians
Quote:They were the first established civilization on the planet to be assimilated, right at the beginning of the reclaiming; they have long since been fully integrated into the Empire ...The social and physical difference between the True Amarr and Udorians disappeared ages ago, although societal traditionalists prefer to remember them. |
