Love how ppl are trying to say that griefing only happens when someone breaks the EULA in the process.
I guess some ppl just cant understand that the rules dont always have to be broken to be considered grief... but I guess some just refuse to understand of accept.
I'm done talking to a bunch of rocks that don't listen...

It may be useful to see what CCP actually says about Griefing. From the Players Guide
Quote: A grief player, or "griefer," is a player who devotes much of his time to making others' lives miserable, in a large part deriving his enjoyment of the game from these activities. Grief tactics are the mechanics a griefer will utilize to antagonize or fight other players.
This should not be confused with standard conflict that might arise between two players. At our discretion, players who are found to be consistently maliciously interfering with the game experience for others may receive a warning, temporary suspension or permanent banning of his account.
I think the relevant clause here may be "A grief player, or "griefer," is a player who devotes much of his time to making others' lives miserable, in a large part deriving his enjoyment of the game from these activities". Notice that the player devotes much of his time to griefing. So, it seems to me, in order to get CCP to interfere, you have to prove that he spends a large part of his time engaged in griefing. Otherwise, it's just part of the game.

Standard conflict = PvP, WarDec PvP, pirating.
Griefing = 1 player annoying the crap out of another for the purpose of getting a reaction, causing the victim to leave the area of basicly do anything else other then what they intend due to the influence of the griefer. This includes ore theft and popping the can so noone gets minerals.
Everyone Reread the first paragraph a few times till it sinks in.

If someone jet can mines and I take it, then they continue to jet can mine, and I take it, and they do it a third time and I take it, then they finally get mad and shoot at me and I proceed to blow them up and take the loot... this isn't griefing, it's a good income day for me.
Please miner's of the Eve World, continue to jet can mine. I need isk.

Steal ore repeatedly is just miner PvP.
Having a higher financial impact does not make one griefing and the other not. Doing anything repeatedly to the same victim will make it harassment.
Never before on this forum has someone so utterly missed the point. --------------------

Well I am new and no less than 15 minutes into the game were i am still trying to figure out the fly side of the ship some bozo pms me and tells me that he will give me some ore, when i finally get to the asteroid field he tells me to retrive the ore from the jettisoned canister , I get the message carefull the ore belongs to the guy who gave me the ore he might attack if you retrive so I tell him about the message he tells me not to worry cause he is giving it to me, soo I retrive the ore and wham he blows me up I am sorry but that killed this game for me now, not only a guy with a huge ship lies he does it to noobs around the military training grounds were we are supposed to get training efectively not being harrased by idiots in big ships Although I thought this game would be fun Its just a dead desire now

Not gonna comment on whether or not it's griefing.
Three ways to handle that problem -
1) Move to a system where the can popper never goes.
2) Kit yourself up with a passive targeter and a ship scanner, use it to find out exactly how he fits his ship, go set up something tasty that's designed specifcally to kill that ship - and do it!
3) If he's in a player corp, go sc*****up the 50M ISKies and pay the Privateer Alliance to wardec his Corp. Repeat as necessary until the message is received.
#2 is the most satisfying option.
Suggestion: Don't be the kind of miner that has no teeth - they're a disgrace to the profession and a liability to miners who can and do fight. Get the skills, build the ships, fight the thieves. More fun for us all that way.

Edited by: Simon Jax on 26/02/2007 17:09:47 Fact: If you mine into a jet can, as opposed to mining into a secure can or taking each cargohold to station it is your choice to take on the risks associated with this option, which includes being susceptible to ore thieves.
Fact: Ore thievery is an accepted, and expected, action based on the current mechanics of the game. It is considered a viable trade, in fact, and is perfectly legal. There is even an EVE chronicle to this effect, Prey Miner. CCP added can flaging on behalf of the victim, providing them with the ability to retaliate without CONCORD interference.
The next thing is what the people who are calling this griefing have obviously ignored.
Fact: Once someone has stolen your ore, it is theirs to do with as they please. Period, end of story. You chose to jet-can mine and therefore took on the risks. They stole your ore from your jet can, which is what you chose to risk. Once they have your ore, they can do with it whatever they damn well please. It is their ore. You have zero claim on it anymore. If they choose to blow it up in front of you, then so be it. Moving it directly to their jet-can makes no difference. What, like them having to move it to their hold, then to the jet-can somehow would make this action any less viable?
If you are in one of the NPC corps, you are making the concious choice to forgo many of the benefits of a player corp in exchange for immunity to wardecs and almost complete safety in high security space. The sacrifice is that ore thieves can steal from you whenever you choose to jet-can mine and your "corpmates" aren't able to help you as they would in a player corp. It's a tradeoff.
In other words, it is not griefing nor harrassment. The claims that it is either/both are based on the illogical assumption that destroying his jet-can after stealing your ore is in some way fundamentally different than ore thievery in a classic sense. He can do whatever he wants to his property, that he is doing so in front of you makes no difference.
So he's trying to goad you into a fight? From the sound of things you knew better and didn't rise to the bait. To that I say you have proven yourself to be an intelligent player that is well aware of the game mechanics that he is attempting to use against you. Were you in a player corp, and he was dumb enough to do this kind of thing to you regularly, you could totally wtfpwn him by exploiting his "predictable" behaviour.
Or, you could get a friend within any NPC corp to come help you mine, hauling the ore from a floating Giant Secure can which he cannot access and could only steal if he has an Industrial of his own. Use the Giant Secure as the "transfer" in space so that the ore never hits a jet-can that the would-be ore thief can't get into (anchored or not).
You (the OP) are on the right track, but you've gotta think of ways to best this foe within the game parameters, just like he's trying to best you. --Wherever you go, there you are. |
