I have an idea how to fix current implementation of cloaking devices. The problem is that anyone can cloak ship forever. And its not good in some systems, where it basically destroys gameplay, because some persons can sit cloaked for 23/24h and even few weeks in system, sometimes checking if there is easy pray for them.
It should not be like that because players should play the game and not keep their alts sitting in a system forever, when nobody can do anything about that.
The solution would be very simple and logical. Just disable capacitor recharge while cloaked and add cloak energy consumption, so one can sit cloaked for example for one hour, maybe two if one have good skills and fit.
For players that are checking constantly if they have something to kill that would be no problem anyway but people would not be allowed to just park their alt and go to scool/work or whatever without risking anything.
The reason for this fix is to make people play or log off and I think I presented good solution for that problem. |

Well, as long as people cannot read the forums and avoid redundant threads, AFK cloakers can camp them: AFK CloakingGäó: Ideas, Discussion, and Proposals - this sticky is there for a reason.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

In before lock.
Just my 2 cents: a cap-booster charge injected immediately after de-cloak will mean that the person can pretty much bypass this inconvenience for the cost of <30 seconds of being on dscan. |

I have great expectations for this thread.
The senseless slaughter of players by cloaked and afk players must end here and now! The carnage is out of control. |

Indeed before we can beat them however we must learn their secrets. How are they killing people while afk? We must get our top men on this immidietly

Agreed. I have cloaked and gone afk several times hoping to return and find heaps of kills in my name. So far I haven't destroyed one ship while cloaked and afk.
If anyone has the proper ship and fittings so that I too can wreak havoc while cloaked and mowing my lawn... Please link them here so I can do it correctly. |

I always have a kind of weird feeling when a game actually has some value in the form of not playing. I always think devs of any game should question themselves when not playing is an actual good move. You are logging in and then leaving the game. I don't know about EVE dev but to me this sounds like game worth logging on but not interesting enough to actually play. |

As a fan of the AFK cloaking threads for years I'd like to point some things out at this juncture.
AFK isn't really the issue here. Aside from a secret video feed into my basement there is no real way to tell if I or any other player is afk or not through the game interface. That being a fact we come to the AFK part of these threads being pure assumption.
The real issue is that "There is someone cloaked in my system and I don't know what to do about it." This whole argument comes from folks that want to pve in LS or Null without the in system threat of a cloaked ship. They have embraced the higher reward half of the equation but are refusing the higher risk part. It's an extension of the entitlement attitude. "I should be allowed to do what I want and no one should be able to interfere with my play style." This blatantly ignores that my play style might be geared toward hunting down and blowing up your ship. It's very self centered.
The real real problem in many systems is the alliance policy or individual choice to dock up when a non blue enters your system. This leads to pilot boredom and frustration. Then come the supporting assumptions: 1. The guy is cloaked afk ruining my day via grief play, so there is nothing I can do about it. 2. The guy is cloaked and not afk, but he obviously has a cyno, so there is nothing I can do about it. 3. The guy is cloaked and just waiting for a helpless target to gank and won't fight a fair fight so there is nothing I can do about it.
Again, all these problems stem from the desire to reap the higher rewards available in LS/Null while refusing to accept the greater risks that come with it. It's a movement to fundamentally change the game at it's core. That's what is really at stake here, the soul of the game. (dramatic, but also true) |
