Well I have a cruiser that a gamemaster recommended as the best mining ship during the trial until I can skill industry (Osprey).
So i'm mining with it at the moment, and trying to make as much cash as possible, in the hope of being able to buy a plex (which is doubtful in the first month I know...)
So yeh, any good ways of making money? |

welcome to EVE!
I would recomend you visit the evelopedia, there is a link to it at the top there. Don't get discouraged by ship loss it is part of the fun. If you haven't yet, do the tutorials and run the basic career agent missions that follow. you will get quite a few skill books, ships, and other items that will help you along the way. You can do all of the missions from all of the career agents even though the tutorial kind of makes it seem like you need to pick one. They are all in the same station. |

First, in terms of making ISK please realise that mining is the worst possible option short of staring at the wall doing nothing. Read the Making ISK Guide in the EVElopedia for some much better ideas.
Second, for general advice you can do a lot worse than starting with the New Citizens Useful Threads entry in the EVElopedia. |

My little two cents here.
If you're running a courier mission for an agent or even transporting some item for trade that you have purchased, make DAM sure you have put the item in your cargo hold.
I forget how many times I've got to my destination just to find i've forget to put the dam thing in my hold. |

Find the settings tab in the market (top) and make sure you turn off the low and null sec orders
This way you don't get lured into low sec by some "super cheap deal"
But even then you should do checks on buying things from system you aren't familiar with, it could be a high sec island that is surrounded by low sec. |

-Anyone can make your ship explode into tiny little bits and take your loot and there's nothing but CONCORD stopping them from doing it. The idea that you're supposed to be immune in hisec is probably the most obnoxious belief people come into the game with.
That said, this probably isn't an issue unless you really, really **** someone off or are carrying a lot of valuable stuff in your cargo -and- are sitting still long enough to be scanned and ganked.
-Lowsec/0.0 are not hard to survive in, you just need to remember that you're in 0.0/lowsec and adopt the appropriate mindset.
As a consequence of the above two: Do not fly anything so expensive that you will be pissed off/ragequit the game if you lose it. You can always lose anything you're flying for a multitude of reasons.
-Find a corp at some point. EVE is a not a good solo game.
-Take everything that's not nailed down.
-You will get shat on at some point. You will do something stupid and lose a bunch of stuff, or you will learn about a new game mechanic you never knew about before the hard way. Fortunately, you know that this is a video game and all your little space pixels don't have any real value and thus aren't upset by this. Right?
-You might at some point think that the main limitation for you in EVE is your skillpoint total. This is incorrect. Do not obsess over skill training, do not feel as if you cannot contribute anything because you don't have X number of skillpoints. If you don't believe me, read the Crime and Punishment forum for hilarious stories of experienced players with plenty of SP being dumb and losing a lot for it.
Oh, that's another thing.
-In keeping with the spirit of your internet possessions not being real and thus how you shouldn't get pissed off when you lose them, other people who step on your toes while playing are just playing the game in their own way. If you cannot distinguish between someone personally attacking you and someone blowing up your internet spaceship, then you probably should not play the game. That said, if you -can- make that distinction, you'll probably love the game. |

I might also suggest that buying a rifter, punisher or similar frigate might be a good idea. An even better idea is to go to lowsec and shoot at someone in a belt, even if you loose it you should be able to get a new one rather easily.
There is also a guide kicking around the old forums named "off the shelf" which is the Tech 1 low skilled pilots guide to going out and shooting people. (And I cant seem to find it anymore)
Shooting people is fun, getting shot at is fun. Makeing friends with pirates and others is fun and I encourage you to do all of the above.

Mining is one of the best ways to make money as a new person. So don't let more advanced players - who hate mining - keep you from it.
You can let the fact that YOU may hate mining keep you from it - that's your call - but learn to distinguish between sound advice and personal prejudice.
As a new player - mining doesn't require anything you don't already have.
When you take the crash course - there are bunch of nice asteroids in there that you can mine into a jet can (right click on the ore in your cargo hold and select jettison) - then select the container that appears in your over view and use the Open button from the selected items menu above the over view. Then right click on the item in the overview and select Bookmark. Drag and drop all the ore you want in there and you can come back and get it once you leave the mission by warping to that bookmark you made until it is empty.
Dump the ore in your starter system then right click on it and select view market. Look at details instead of groups then sort the top window (people selling things) with the lowest prices on top and the bottom window (people buying things) with the highest prices on top. Here you have to choose between how far you want to haul your ore and what the best price is. For now - with low refining skills - you're best off just selling the ore. In any case - until you get a ship with a bigger cargo hold you're probably stuck selling it close by - so sell it - then take the first 20k you get and buy a mining frigate.
Once you have your mining frigate, right click on it and select make active. Then right click on your rookie ship and select Repackage. This will put the rookie weapon and miner in your Items Hangar. Now - right click on the rookie ship again - select Assemble - then Repackage it once more - now you have TWO free rookie miners. Bring up your fittings menu and put these on your mining frigate.
Train Drones/Drones to level 1 and Drones/Scout Drones to Level 1 - this well let you use a combat drone - the best weapon your rookie ship and mining frigate can use.
You can't get an industrial on a trial account - but you can get Expanded Cargo Holds and larger ships that will make hauling your ore in from the jet can easier.
You can also run the Crash Course mission as often as you like - letting you mine the asteroids there in some degree of safety. If you use jet can's in the belts people will rob you - but they have to scan you down in mission space to do that so while you're not safe - you are safer. One of the buttons on the left side of your HUD's center section is the directional scanner - use that to look for Combat Scanner Probes - if you see that someone is scanning for other ships.
Whatever you choose to do from here on out - this is a simple, easy way for you to make money. If you wish to increase your investment in skills and ships you can make more.
Mission running as a career eventually exceeds mining but that's only somewhere during level 3 or 4 missions. Until then, given a normal career progression in ships and skills - mining is more lucrative.
But - if you don't like doing it - then don't do it.

1 - Don't fly anything you can't afford to replace or you'll feel really bad about losing. 2 - EVE = Everyone Versus Everyone. Undocking even in Hi Sec leaves you open to attack. 3 - Do all the tutorials then Sisters of EVE arc. After that join a friendly corp. 4 - Have fun. It's only a game. |

From the personal experiences of an 11-day trial player:
1. Just because you can fly the ship doesn't mean you should. 2. Salvage is NOT a waste of time. 3. If someone you don't know drops into your mission area - be afraid...or just leave. 4. ECM/ECCM can make a lot of L2/L3 missions seem like cake. A little training and some ISK will go a long way to helping you survive/profit.
THE BIG ONE
5. Yes, it's grindy at times. Yes, it's going to be quite some time until you can effectively do things like PvP. If that's not okay with you, then this probably isn't the right game for you. |

If you're in hisec, this isn't really an issue unless you shoot at him first (which you can only do if he loots one of the wrecks).

you won't be able to SOLO PVP against experienced players this young, true (then again, even experienced players find SOLO PVP almost impossible). However, you can certainly get involved in PVP. A friend of mine joined faction warfare at a week old, and went into 0.0 with Ushra'Khan at 20 days.
I disagree with your assertion. In fact, I would argue that if you refuse to do anything until you're perfectly skilled for it, you're less of a good fit for the game than he is. |
