They've been spamming the forum with keyloggers for so many years I can't even remember when they started. Did someone at CCP just forget that message was there or what? |

Odd. I've not seen any.

Why would they remove it? It's a warning, just because you've used the machine a million times that has a sign on it "do not touch here, not only will you die, it will hurt the whole time you are dying" Do you remove that?

The warning isn't actually true. I've never even heard of anyone ever getting a keylogger from the forum. It's certainly not happening anywhere near frequently enough that it can be called spam. That's a terrible analogy. I've been touching that spot on the machine daily since beta. The message makes it sound like there's an ongoing invasion by Lizard Squad or whoever flooding the forum with dozens of keylogger links constantly. |

Let OP not have the warning. Then, when he does get a keylogger, we can all point out that he could have been warned, but he thought the one extra click of a mouse was too much effort.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.

Not to lend credence to a bad idea, but could we get it put into the same page? Its 2016, and event.preventDefault() has been a thing for quite a while now.... |

The warning isn't actually true. I've never even heard of anyone ever getting a keylogger from the forum. 2 things:
1. The warning isn't about getting a keylogger from the forum per se. It is a warning that by following a link outside of the forum there is a possibility of being infected.
2. It is a CYA ("Cover Your Ass") legal message from and for CCP. By stating there is a risk in following a random URL outside of the forum and you choosing to ignore it (by selecting "YES" and going to said link), CCP absolves itself of any responsibility on what is on the other end.
Basically, there is no good reason to remove it. It does what it is supposed to; warn you of a potential risk.
And yes... there is a risk. There is always a risk. If memory serves me right, there was a keylogger that infected computers that visited the Superbowl website some years back. They keylogger was specific for World of Warcraft and it resulted in quite a few accounts being compromised.
How did you Veterans start?

Remember, for every warning label you find on a product, there's an idiot out there that did exactly what the label warns you not to do, and successfully sued over it.
The sad part isn't the broken legal system. The sad part is that the legal system rewards stupidity. Every day we get one step closer to "Idiocracy" becoming reality.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having a warning, but it at least shouldn't be an absurdly hyperbolic one. PS: And it's funny that you'd use warning labels as an example. "Caution: Contents may be hot!" on the side of mc donalds( everyone does it now) coffee cups cause some lady sued mc donalds when she spilled hot coffee in her lap out of one of the cups. If you order a coffee you would assume its hot, no?

A couple of years ago the forum got spammed like mad with all kinds of shady links and whatnot, that's when they put it in.

I agree with the OP, the warning message is annoying. Yes, I know it's just a disclaimer but it still manages to be spectacularly silly when it warns you about opening YouTube links or image links that have no theoretical chance of infecting your computer. A company that makes one of the most complicated MMOs on the world could use more intelligence when writing their forum software, don't you agree? There's this issue of messages sometimes being cleared when you click "Post", too.
Workarounds are not bugfixes.
