In conjunction with our partners at Vivox, we are ramping up testing for the EVE Voice service. The EVE Voice client has already been added to the EVE game client, but it has not been activated. We are asking the community for assistance with load testing, hardware compatibility and general feedback.
You can read more about the testing in Sharkbait's new Dev Blog.

I'm looking forward to Eve Voice for the express purpose of listening to Jita Local. Or, wait, maybe that's why I'm dreading it. I can't remember.

Realtek dont work.... lol well thats like everyone with an onboard sound card.... No one uses those do they *looks around then whistles*.
Might want to fix this before everyone and his dog signs up. LOL like that will really happen.

I do not wish to spread negative emotions about it... but it also would be very nice if devs add an an option to DISABLE eve voice client in game options.
(writing this post under the influence of memories, when after one of EXODUS patches my client crashed every time while playing explosion sound of missile/ship. I'm playing without sound activated since that time . I'm not using realtek.)

Without sounding like a monkey here there are a few questions I do have.
1.) Does it have an off button for people that have paid for it ? and not just "mute all" in windows. 2.) Are the voice and Eve linked in anyway, IE if TQ takes a dump will the voice's stop//lag as well. 3.) I take it you will have a voice in every channel you are in ingame, will there be a mute, block, temp block (trade channels=spam) 4.) If your watching channel A ingame and someone speaks in Channel B can you set it so you can hear them ? 5.) And the main question. Why ? Why should I pay more money when Teamspeak works so well ? ----------------- So Say We All.

And working so well also doesnt mean only working, but includes all administration, flexibility and easy to use things and to replace server if needed. And totally free (for the exception you need your own server but nowadays it's more strange if you do not have a shell than if you have one).

As much as the tests on Sisi has shown, the voice doesn¦t lag, when Eve starts to lag. Only the talking-signs are lagging behind a bit.

You can only join voice in ONE of your open channels. So if you have voice activated in your gang, you can¦t activate it in your corpchannel etc. I don¦t think that anybody wants to activate voice in trade channels or other common channels.

it's not all realtek cards that dont work, i personally have a realtek card and it works fine. Realtek make many sound cards and chipsets and only a few are not compatible at this time, but it is being worked on.
also at the time of this post i have enabled everyone's accounts who have mailed in.
thx

Edited by: Sevarus James on 27/02/2007 01:24:03 Are there any reports of this working with cedega? Or not? If the voice software is in the current tranq build, I will say that it isn't causing any cedega crashing, but being that more than a few of us are running through cedega and/or wine and usually 'alsa', this could be a serious problem for us non windows users.
I ask as I haven't had time to test recently on sisi due to r/l concerns, and would like to assist from that side of the universe if possible.

It would be a nice service. Too bad I can't use it, because of the continuing bugged sound problems causing system reboots.
Yes, this is a driver problem. No driver should cause reboots, no matter what idiotic data the program sends it. But just for fun, could we see EvE find out WHAT idiotic data you're sending to the sound drivers that's causing them to crash, and FIX it?
I have C-Media USB 5.1 headphones. Can't use them, they cause reboots, at full accell and one step down. Things like voice are critical about having full accell available and on.
Perhaps it's something to do with this 'BLUE' thing I see in the data? That seems to be sound related, and not to be found in the games I have that work fine. I'm constantly hearing (in all sound chipsets, including the working one on-board I have) little 'poufs' of noise that sound like 'I want to play a sound here, but it's not working right!'

You make sure that you partner with a company specializing in MMO Voice capability and assign minimal internal DEV resource to handle the integration. I bet 95% of all DEVs have been working on other projects like the speed initiative and not EVE Voice...

I too have to play with Sound turned off most of the time since it cuts my frame rate to less than half.
I don't give a hoot about realtek cards since i use sound blaster live, (ahem, cough) yes, its a bit old, but it works.
I would so like to be able to toss vent, TS, and others by the wayside and say good by to them providing Eve Voice works well, with minimum lag and has plenty of bells and whistles to control the thing. Such as, shut up and go to sleep, Wake up, Channel select and multiple channel listening capability and some visual indication as to which channel is active.
If yer gonna do this thing, do it right and set the standard.

However, I'm behind a socks4 proxy and have to use SocksCap to connect to Eve. Will voice work over a proxy?

When the bugs section stops giving me a 500 error I'll report this bug that I'm getting.
I have joined audio in a player created channel. Whenever people come online or come into the channel they automatically have the talk icon next to their name even though they have not joined audio... Some don't even have audio enabled.

Is there a list of mightwork/not working/working realtek chipsets?
I am sure that you guys are aware that realtek has probable at least half, if not more of the audio chipset market for your typical onboard sound.
I would be glad to test, but I doubt that my CEO is going to specifically request this, since we have mandatory Ventrilo use.
(But if you enable me alone, I will hop in and test with people <G>)
I do have many machines that have the onboard realtek chipsets, and as a suggestion, perhaps a thread where people that are testing can specify what audio chipset they have and confirm/deny it works?

If anyone who's solo would like to test you can always join me and my friends in the "EVE Academy Channel"
Also I'm using a logitech USB headset and I have this problem where people can hear me but I can't hear them... I had the same problem about two weeks ago on sisi but I fixed it by reselecting my headset as the output device... :-(... It really sucks that I can't hear people... Anyone know a work around?

i have not heard that is does but i also have not head that it does. i believe we have a cedega machine in the office and i will ask someone to try it out and then let you know.
also we are still enabling accounts if people are interested. if you are having problems getting the service to work, just send a dxdiag file and a description to [email protected] and i will get back to you.
oh and the realtek issue is being worked on and hopefully we will have a fix very soon. i will keep you posted on that. thx

I'm running EVE after the patch on Cedega 5.2.10 and I have a problem where the chat channels don't load on startup I don't seem to have a local or corp channel, I can join player channels though... but that's not the point... the point is that EVE Voice doesn't create a voice account on start up either... so I guess the answer is no... it doesn't work for me anyways.
I'll run a few different versions of the Cedega code to see if anything changes.

I have seen to problems so far: When ever you join an Audio channel the input volume resets it self to default (it's not loud enough). It also changes the value in the windows settings.
You can not activate or deactivate the microphone boost in game (you can not match the box). But that is not a problem as it does not affect the windows settings, and the microphone boost keeps active, when activated over windows.
