<Semi serious post, for once>
I would like to discuss, as a group, the best way to avoid destroying profitable trade routes through over-pirating. It is a common problem with most effective pirate corps that when they move into an area and seriously attack the traffic along a pipeline that it is only a short while before a severe drop in traffic occurs. What used to be a conga line of unescorted haulers is now shuttles and frigates with the occasional blob escort.
Now, traditionally, this means that the pirate corp moves to a new area and gives the local targets time to forget before moving back in. However, I often wonder if their are other options. I'd love to hear your input!
Is selective targetting an option? Cargo scanning incoming haulers and popping only the juiciest. Does ransoming really keep traffic at a high level or simply warn people that when you are there, they will have to part with some ISK. Time management, does variation on the actual time you are on the gate keep traffic alive as you generally aren't coming across the same targets multiple times. Infiltration of local defense comm channels to try and gain information. (I find it invaluable to know who reports pirates in system, and who does not.)
What other options have you come across to keep a juicy pipeline going for as long as possible? Is being mobile and moving every 1-2 weeks the only option for a successfull pirate corp?
I look forward to reading your what you have to say!

In all honesty, I believe WTZ has damaged any chances of cargo-scanning anything but the slowest ships on the jump-in side and zero chance on the jump-out. Your other ideas sound like they may be worth a try though.

You can't put a shark into a tank of guppies and not watch the shark go crazy.
The same goes for pirate corps. When the path of space pirate is chosen its not often just pew pewing just to make ends meet. Its pew pewing to get a name for yourself as a BAMF

You can't manage piracy victims like you manage fish.
The only long-term, stable income for a pirate is by establishing a protected region and enforcing it, protecting your "cattle" from enemy "ranchers", so to speak.

While I see what you're saying, I feel like the whole "ecosystem-animal-thing" is the most natural, and works best.
Lions move into area, eat animals. Animals reduce, lions reduce. Animals grow abundant again for lack of lions, lions grow abundant again for surplus of food.
Trying to mess with it complicates things and I don't see much benefit to it. Kill everything.

You go on killing everything all you want. I am sure you can make another post in a month or two complaining about how few people travel to low sec anymore.

I would think the problem with trying to implement any sort of "general consensus" with prats is the total inability of most to agree on much of any sort of set rules, for any extended period of time.
Far as I know, the one thing they agree on (and not all of them, just a fair percentage) is that its bad to dishonor a ransom. If you get a rep for that, some people are liable to come calling to make their point, from what I hear.
Asking the majority to not pod, or to be selective is probably an excersize in frustration. |
