i want to play as a Caldari pilot and focused in exploration and used drones but some people say drones with caldari are useless. should i go gallente and explore with drones or caldari? mostly i love the Caldari ship design and overall theme. |

Races do nothing in game really. Any capsuleer can fly in any ship. Just buy and train a skill If you like caldari hull. Check every ship for bonuses. Then you'll know which is main weapon the ship uses. For caldari missile/hybrid gun and shield. Train core skills first. |

Every race has an exploration frigate. The Caldari Heron is competitive and you get one free by running the Caldari career missions.Use it in high-sec to learn the art. Edit: Just noticed you are Minmatar - Probe works just as well.
The next step up is the covert ops frigate: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Buzzard. The Caldari are not drone enthusiasts and use them less than other races. That said, the explorer survives by stealth - not combat ability.
Ships you should be considering if you are serious about exploration are Sisters of Eve. They are expensive and are on a different skill path than Caldari but they are optimized for that profession. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Astero
Also check out https://www.eve-scout.com/signal-cartel/ as an exploration focused player corporation. |

Most ships can carry and use some drones. Some ships are specialised for using drones, but none of those specialised ships are Caldari. Gallente and Amarr have ships specialised for using drones, and Sisters of Eve, as Do Little mentioned.
The Sisters of Eve ships are actually a combination of features from Gallente and Amarr ships, so you need to train up both Gallente and Amarr ship skills to get the best performance from the Sisters of Eve ships. |

If you mention Pirate factions, you might want to mention Gurista's.
Caldari/Galente faction Drones/Missiles and Shield.
not to mention it's relatively easy to fly effectivly skillwise that is |

if you wanna do exploration, the Astero is the golden standard in that area and it uses gallente and amarr frigate skills. |

Buzzard is probably the best exploration frigate. so you can train that up with Caldari frig to V then go gallente or amarr in your larger ships to use drones.
if you like drones and the caldari hulls train Guristas (caldari/gallente pirate faction)

Never not drones. Drones are damn useful as they allow you to "punch down". The bigger ship you're in the harder your weapon systems have with tracking smaller targets.
However, if you use smaller drones you can avoid fitting those terribad undersized weapons to still deal with small targets.

Skip SoE ships if you are going to get seriosly into exploration. Focus on them if you just do exploration for fun. Reason is, that CCP created covert op frigates ships as main low skill exploration tool. With "Covert Ops" skill at V no other ship will scan quicker, than [Buzzard, rapid exploration] 'Halcyon' Core Equalizer I 'Halcyon' Core Equalizer I
Scan Rangefinding Array II Scan Rangefinding Array II Scan Pinpointing Array II Scan Acquisition Array II 1MN Y-S8 Compact Afterburner
Sisters Core Probe Launcher, SistersCore Scanner Probe I Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Salvager II
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
In cargo: Mobile Depot SistersCore Scanner Probe I Relic Analyser II Data Analyser II
You can put cargo expanders, inertia stabs or what ever you want into low slots. It really does not influence your exploration abilities.
Your next ship will be Tengu, so you can do also combat anomalies...
You do not need drones for non-combat exploration, but for combat PvE Gila and Rattlesnake are one of the best ships out there and they all have caldary design. Just as Worm for PvP.

Hi there. Eternal Montage here. Explorer by trade. Based out of lowsec. To answer your question I think you need to think about the long term.
Where do you see yourself in six months? Do you want to be a hacking expert? Do you want to dive into wormholes? Do you want to do sleeper caches? Do you want to do dedsites? Do you want to focus on escalations and avoid probing? Gas clouds? Lowsec? Highsec?
If you want to hack, do what the other guy said and train for a covops. Hacking doesn't make as much money but it is more consistent income and it can be fun.
If you are more interested in combat, the soe ships will offer an all-in-one platform. The stratios can do anything up to 6/10. Some 6/10s can drop over a bill so I would recommend this route..
If you are interested in the guristas ships, the gila can do almost everything a stratios can do except it doesn't have a covert cloak or scanning bonus.
The other option is holding out for a Tengu, which will certainly open a lot of doors, but this involves a lot of waiting. It also involves a lot of changing fits, and that's annoying.
In my exploration career I've found I've had the most success with scanning in a covops and doing sites in a battleship if possible, or whatever else will fit through the gate (stratus for 3-4/10, astero for 1-2/10, whatever works on unrated sites.)
I've found I have the most fun chasing down escalations. Personally id rather not probe. Escalations let you skip the probing part. I've memorized which anomalies escalate and often do them as I find them. I like to mix pvp and pve by doing anomalies In a pvp boat so that I'm ready for any opportunities that come along. I switch to a pve ship if i get an escalation. Exploration is all about opportunity so make sure you choose a plan that will open the most doors and set you up for the most possible activities. I know id be bored out of my mind simply hacking so i definitely recommend getting a tadte of combat befote you commit to a training path whole hog. you need any other advice feel free to message me in game.
