Idea is pretty simple: -all turret weapons must be manually operated -non-turret remote effects have manual override (remote reps, remote sensor boosts, etc.)
I would expect this to have a lot of testing behind it, and maybe have it start as just an option to manually operate.
Applying current game stats: -locking a target provides aim assist -tracking speed is the rate you can move the cross-hair -optimal is the range that the shot is guaranteed to land where you are aiming -falloff is the point beyond which accuracy decreases -Hitting a ship in different locations does different damage -Fire rate is the cool down between shots
Electronic Warfare effects: -target painters expand a ships hit box -ECM blacks out screen -Sensor dampening blurs vision until lock is acquired
Specific weapons: -Auto cannon has a burst fire -Blasters are like shotguns -Missiles will track to the target you mark when you fire
Pros: -Super engaging combat -Introduce new player skills -Ship navigation becomes wildly important (dodge the bullets) -Sharpshooting
Cons: -Requires re-balance and tuning (specifically drones) -Combat would he incredibly challenging -Major shift in gameplay
Notes: -It is still virtually impossible to hit small ships without locking first.... and we will all be terrified of the people who can....

Mechanics-wsie, you are going to run into one very simply limitation:
The server "tick rate."
What is a sever "trick rate?" It is the rate at which the server accepts, processes, executes, and relays a command (or any series of commands) to the client.
To pull off good "twitch-based" mechanics you need the "trick rate" of your average FPS shooter game... which is in the milliseconds.
The server "tick rate" for EVE is about 1 second. For reference, this is akin to playing Flight Simulator on your computer at 1 frame per second.... only with smoother graphics and transitions between the frames.
The server "tick rate" is so low because it...
- better allows for the single shard architecture that allows for any player in the world to more or less be competitive with everyone else in the world (though, Australians and Kiwis may disagree with me on that point).
- allows for massive battles between players that would make most other games cry and crash.
There is also a gameplay issue/perference to consider too.
I know more than a few players who very much dislike "twitch mechanics." We prefer to make decisions based more around informational superiority and marco-level tactics. FPS style gameplay simply does not appeal to some of us who prefer cerebral game.
How did you Veterans start?
"Learn how things work. The intricacies, interactions, and hard limits... knowing these things will grant you far more power in the long run."

Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen (If it ever gets out of alpha) already have this part of the market covered.
Both of these games do have the ability to have large battles like EVE, nor do they have the ability to support 45k worth of players on a single server.

I am all for it if they hand out the gear with it.
Eve Minions is recruiting. Learn from about pvp, learn about ships and how to fly them correctly. Small gang and solo action in high, low and nullsec and w-space alike.
We will teach you everything you need and want to know.

However I would never want to see eve as an fps only or give people in " fps mode" an advantage since it's not what eve is about. |

It would suck.
Remember that the smallest combat ship class in EVE is a frigate. (even in the real world, frigates are pretty big shipwise, and you don't control them or their weapons in "first person mode")
Your idea sounds more like fighter combat, which is what EVE Valkyrie will deal with. |
