If you have a jump clone and get podded do you need to buy a new jump clone or do you always have extra bodies floating around?

You cannot undock in a jump clone --> You cannot get podded in a jump clone --> Being podded has nothing to do with jump clone.
----- (1) Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose. (2) Bare minimum skill means that you can only undock with it and nothing else.

When you get podded the Medical Clone (the one that "stores your skill-points") is activated. Your clone will be transfered to the Medical Clone facility station.
The Jump Clones you have at that point stay as they are.
Of course there might be possibility that your Medical Clone and one of the Jump Clones are on the same station, but in that case - no worry - just do not Activate another Jump Clone when you are in that station (the usual two Jump Clones per station destruction event)
Agreed with the 1st replyer: Jump Clones (transfering consciousness) have only tinyest amount to do with Medical Clone (pods). -- V.H. |

Maybe I've misunderstood the point of jump clones then - I thought that you could use them to jump between areas quickly so you could maintain a ship at point A, dock and transfer consiousness to point B then launch a seperate ship from there for various activities and when done jump dock at point B again and transfer conciousness back to point A so you can launch and carry on where you started.
If thats not the use, could you tell me what they are used for please?

You have the basic idea of the Jump Clone correct. You use it to quickly travel from one place to another or to protect your implants while engaging in high risk activities.
The common confussion between Jump Clones and Medical Clones happens because of the name. For rollplay purposes they are vary similar. As for game mechanics they have nothing in common, and no effect on one another. Once you buy a Jump Clone you will always have bodies floating around as you put it. The only way for Jump Clones to be destroyed is for you to do it, nobody else can destroy your jump clones. They can only kill your active clone, at which point you wake up in your Medical Clone and need to buy a new Medical Clone. Any jump clones that you had will still be there. When you activate a Jump Clone, you always leave one behind, so you always have the same number of jump clones.

Here's a little example to help you wrap your mind around it.
Let's say your medical clone is in Sortet, and you also have a Jump Clone way over in Rens. You dock in a station in Scolluzer and activate your Rens clone. Presto, you wake up in Rens, and you now have a Jump Clone in a station in Scolluzer. (NOTE: Any implants you had will stay with the clone in Scolluzer.) You fly around in Rens and get yourself podded. You will wake up in your medical clone in Sortet. You still have a Jump Clone in Scolluzer where you left it (and it still has any implants that may have been left in it).

To clarify: Your Medical Clone and your Jump Clone(s) do not interact in any way, shape or form.
To complicate: DonÆt forget that you can also move your medical clone about with you as well, for a fairly small fee. So if you bought your jump clone in Rens, but started doing missions out of Jel, if you get podded youÆll be transported way the hell back at Rens! Moving your medical clone to Jel will keep that from happening.
To further complicate: You can also use being podded as an exceptionally fast mode of transportation, usually only when you have jump clones. Are you 30 jumps into deep space and find your ship in pieces? Have an up to date Medical Clone? Did you remember to leave your implants safe and sound in a Jump Clone so you could travel about emptyheaded ( ha ha)? Well then donÆt fret, just scuttle your pod and youÆll wake up safe and sound at your home location. û this message brought to you by Biomass Inc.

Ahh, Pod Jumping. Just don't forget to upgrade your medical clone again immediately after doing that.
Also, you don't have to be in a system to place your medical clone there. Just dock at any station with a medical facility, and from there you can move your clone to any medical facility you've ever visited in the game. Handy.
