just a quick query to clarify flags etc:
I am running a mission in a hi sec system and in the process of mopping up wrecks.
A player in an NPC corp flies into the mission zone and loots a wreck that belongs to me , he becomes suspect.
I blow up the wreck he just looted.
Do I become suspect to him for blowing up my own wreck? Does the wreck become his because he looted it ?
If after I destroy the wreck, he engages me directly while he is suspect what should happen regard timers, suspect flags etc?

no

Quote:If after I destroy the wreck, he engages me directly while he is suspect what should happen regard timers, suspect flags etc? he will get concorded if he shoots you first. the suspect flag makes him freely shoot-in-the-face-able to any one and everyone, he does not gain any agression rights against you or anyone because of this flag. if you shoot him , ye both then get a limited engagement timer so that he may defend himself.

Ok, thats odd, cos this guy turns up in a hecate and loots my wreck, exactly as i described, i had a 5 minute npc timer running.
After I destroyed my wreck that he looted, he was within 1000m of the wreck so I hoped he'd think i shot at him, he did and proceeded to orbit and start shooting, I sat there for a good 3 minutes waiting for concord to ruin his day but they did not appear, by which time he had given up shooting me as he was not inflicting any significant damage.

you certain you didnt shoot his ship? because without a limited engagement , being at war or you being suspect he would have been concorded.

Positive.
I did not have any pvp agression timers or anything. the only timer I had was the NPC aggresion timer which ran out about a minute after I docked up.
At first I didn't realise he was shooting me directly, I thought he was shooting the mobile tractor unit next to me, but he wasn't, so I sat there, letting him pot shot me.
After 3 mins he had only done about 5% damamge to my shield and gave up. |

Did you have any aggresive combat drones out by chance? |

Then that was all he was doing, he was chewing on your mtu hoping you would take a shot at it,
had he fired upon you there would have been more timers and belive me you would have known all about it, the hecate can push 800 dps cold with the right fit so im inclined to think he didnt actually shoot you. Also the behaviour sonds exactly like a mission flip.
I think there may have been a graphical error making it apear his shots were going to your ship rather than the mtu, ive seen this a couple of times but usually in lazer boats.

EDIT: If so, he might have shot the MTU, the drones would have engaged him, granting him a limited engagement with you. (At least that's how I read it works) Thats been patched out., was the case on mtu release but is now a thing of the past.

Thanks for the reply, as you say must have been some graphical glitch then. I'll have to remember to stow the MTU in future. |

After an engagement you should routinely check your combat logs. So many things missed while in the moments of excitement.
your comments just confirms this whole idea is totally pathetic

If you shoot the flashy yellow, anyone else in his fleet also gets a limited engagement with you.

Also: if you shoot the wreck he's looted, you turn flashy red. If you select the wreck as a target and point your mouse at the guns, the icon for your guns will have a halo, and the tooltip will have some text in it (if you haven't turned it off). none of that is true , apart from the trap thing, obviously its a trap, but no one else gets a limited engagement bar the people either end of the shot fired. nor will you get concorded for shooting a wreck he looted, thats all oldshool can-flipping mechanics that are no longer the case.

Check your combat logs to see what he was shooting at you - he may have used a festival launcher on you hoping you'd shoot back and get yourself concorded. Was he redboxed, or yellow?
EDIT if it was only the hecate shooting at you and no rats, then losing 5% shields doesn't make sense, and I withdraw my un-smart comment.
