Ok.....so the new map/probe window LOOKS very pretty, however some of this comes at the cost of ease of use.
Example A, the amount of glow/bloom relative to the signature pip makes it significantly difficult to spot quickly.
Example B This is further exacerbated when multiple signatures are selected/not filtered out.
Now to show the exact same scene using old soon to be deprecated scanner window Example A Example B
The biggest difference is again the bloom/glow effect has a tendency to obscure small details like bookmarks and the sig dot.
A majority of w-space life is spent scanning, while I fully support the upgrading of our standby tools can we please not like eye candy get int he way of utilitarianism functionality. Things like the new D-scan cone and such are AWESOME. However currently I find myself just using the old scan window in leui of the new one due to the substantially faster ability to sort/ target probes at sigs.

Agreed. The new scanner is super shiny and NEAT!, which is nice and all, but personally I'd like to be able to see wtf I am doing while I'm scanning.
Honestly, the old scanner works extremely well and while I can understand adding things like the new dscan cone to it, I cannot understand why it needed to be, i guess the word is 'modernized' so heavy handedly.
The trend these days is to make everything shinier, brighter, bigger, better!, always at the expense of functionality. The probe scanner is a tool and as such, it needs to be first and foremost functional and clear.
I also use and vastly prefer the old scanner and will continue to use it until it goes away :(

I love the hot keys!
The Ui... Not so much.
I think a function to make the signatures more brighter would do wonders, for starters. |

I wouldn't mind having the ability to change the glow strength, and also being able to customise the colours for sigs would be nice too. |

Finally settled down in a C!, and started scanning. I agree that it's very hard to see the sig you are working on and in some cases you have to really get in up close and personal before you can see it. I would much rather have it to where the sigs are highlighted as you scan so you can keep track on it.
Sure would make our work easier if there was a way to reduce clutter as well. |

I really like the D-Scan cone, but I wish it would get dimmer as it gets broader. A full sphere should be a dull mist, not a bright globe.
The red/orange/green dots for partially scanned signatures need to be a LOT brighter.
If possible, I'd like some more 'probe launching' options. Such as: Launch in 1/2/4AU Pinpoint Centered On Ship/Sun/Planet XYZ/Anomaly ABC/Bookmark (if this is already possible, please Dear Drifters And Travelers Of The Spacelanes; tell me how).

Last time I used the the new probes window (months ago)
-Didn't show me the point on map where I came from in a wormhole (usualy save me 1 scan or 2). -As mentionned above and reported, the fade brown color. Red dot over blue was perfect. -I also had trouble using the map to dscan pinpointing stuff. (PVP stuff) -I filtre almost everything to not get stuff in my view when probing but when it comes to not probing, I have to select them all.
A+ for the shortcut and zooming beyond the system.

Can we talk about the fact that minimizing the new scanning overlay and then bringing it back up causes you to lose all prior scan results? I.e. the little dot I was working is now a big bubble again and I have to waste another analyze cycle to see where it went. |

Additionally it doesn't update distances to the sig relative to where you are now on a periodic basis.

I agree with what most others have said but I haven't seen the following problem brought up.
D-scan: The dscan updates automatically when you change ranges. This is terrible because if you are going from say 8AU scan to a 10AU scan it will auto update at 1AU as you are typing in 10. At that point you are forced to wait for the scan cool down before you can get your 10au scan off. This slows down scouts that are trying to catch something before it warps off. Since you cant separate the new probe scan from the new d-scan this is by far my biggest problem with the new features.
Also in the old map it showed wormholes you had warped to. So you could accidentally warp off from your in hole without bookmarking and it was an easy fix. The new map does not give you this info. If this is intended its fine its rarely an inconvenience; it's just a bit of functionality the old map offered that the new one does not. |

I think it's better this way. After having to re-do the work a couple of times It forced me to always remember to bookmark them.
