Timing can be everything, especially where appearances are concerned. There are some members of the community that appear to be taking great delight in digging up what they think is mud and casting it about, even going so far as to delve into the private lives of CCP staff. Another such instance arose yesterday.
We hired a GM at the beginning of the year and before last summer's BP incident came to light. Now there are some community members arm chair coaching and saying we should not have hired this person back in January based on events that happened in February.
Where is this going? Arkanon has a new blog that was just published concerning the player whose employment at CCP was made public knowledge and the shameful publishing of private information. The comment thread will be left open for as long as the replies stay on topic and not degenerate into accusations, flaming, etc. We feel that no further comment on this non-issue is necessary. Statement regarding recent allegations of staff misconduct.

Well congrats to Enslaver on his new position, defiantly a good choice by ccp to hire him .
I seriously can't wait until this "professional hacker" gets a life and moves on however.

Edited by: Skarsnik on 02/03/2007 17:36:02 This is getting out of hand. Seriously CCP you should start looking at legal recourses if you can. As this is in all honesty 'damaging' CCP's reputation and overall staff livlyhood. The fact that this 'person' (dare I even call him a person) is doing this is nothing short of malevolent, and malicious, which in most countries is illegal in several ways.
Good post Arkanon, glad to see your all on the ball on this. -------------

Personally I think that all GM and players that work for CCP should have it public listed on there character. This way you can play, and not have to worry about it. The problem comes that other players will treat ccp characters differently, either or good or bad.
The biggest advantage is that if you wonder if player XXX got hes titan by working for it, or by Gm command. if the player doesn't have a ccp tag then he definitely got it through hard work..
Now also if something weird happens around a CCP character it is under allot more eyes to look for things. Also the internal affairs office would also be looking.

One of the nice things about CCP is they hire people who really loves the game. That can ofcource open the posibilities for some weak people cheating. But we just have to remember we are all humans. People do mistakes. Anyway, I think this is a very very tiny price to pay to have such great people with us!
I want to say good job to all involved with CCP! That includes Devs, GMs and mods and all other who are affiliated in any way with CCP and this fantastic game!
I love you all!

thats all dandy, but he never says which GM it is...and not to stir the pot, and this will prolly get edited, but it seems a certain alliance has been the "target" per say of a certain GM...only to find out that a new GM is outed as a leader in the alliance they are attacking

It¦s not good to get player to "work", he already have his friends, no matter what char he uses, he has friends...
Back in CCP headquarters:
The Enslaver: Hey t20, who is bob next target now? t20: Not sure yet, we might head north, why? Ens: Cause LV could some bob help to take down Red, after that we can all go north t20: Sounds like a plan...let me log "my main" so we can NAP.

Then if he tries to make a new acct and you can prove its him i will pay on that as well. The player community needs to stand up and make it clear that we will not allow or support this type of action. the enslaver did NOTHING wrong, and CCP have already set in place policies to deal with things such as the t20 mistake.
Honestly we as players benefit from CCP employees playing the game, it means they know what issues and things were doing. Forum posts are not as accurate a picture as actual game play. I like this game, i like CCP, and im happy with how they delt with the t20 thing, he is a good dev who made a bad in game choice.
I support CCP.

I know that The Enslaver and LV worked hard for that Titan, no GM commands, same goes for the outposts that LV build. Lots of us spend days and days just hauling components to get these things built.
I honestly thought that Ens had quit EVE, but now that I have read the Blog, I can understand why he went "inactive".
It is a real pity that Ens has been exposed this way and will probably have to give up his character, one that he created over 3 years ago and put a lot of hard work into, getting as far as he did.
I can't imagine that Ens abused his *new* GM status, he only started the job 2 months ago, and LV was already well built up, long before that.
Regarding his comments about selling T2 BPOs, I remember talking to him in November (maybe even earlier) and he said that invention would bottom out the T2 market, and the he was going to be selling his, as long as the prices were still high. There was no "insider" information then, because he wasn't a CCP employee, it was just his analysis of the already publicly stated changes that were in the pipes.
So, good luck "The Enslaver", I hope you have fun in your new job, and can somehow find a way to still play the game that you enjoy so much.

I feel I need to say something.
I've read the statements by the alleged hacker, you shouldn't call him a hacker until such time as he's convicted of hacking. In this instance the advice given was vague at least of the transcript we see. It was nothing really more than what someone with good business sense might offer. Reading Oveur's Blog and the responses in his blog thread, it is obvious that Tech 2 BPOs will not remain as they are, it is also obious that other items such as the skillbooks, interfaces and datacores are going to have to become more available in order for them to take the place of the lottery as Oveur has stated. Thus a smart person would advise his buddies not to spend a fortune on t2 BPOs at this time and if they have them to offload as many extra interfaces/datacores as they can while the price is high.
The problem here is you have someone that has been greatly angered. He feels the need to avenge the wrongs, real or imagined, that he has suffered. He once threatened he'd reveal one such incident a month. The game cannot survive with constant scandals.
What I'm going to suggest is going to be hard. It may not be popular with the GMs, the Devs or other CCP employees. I'm sure that many of your characters are among the oldest in the game. When you have a fire though, you make a firebreak in order to contain the fire. That's what you need here, a firebreak.
It might be time to retire all of your current characters/accounts. To prevent any further fallout. This is not to say that you should stop playing the game you love. Make new characters, possibly even accelerating them some to make up for the loss of your old ones. You have to take the fuel from his fire.
Stop using any character to post in any alliance forum, outside eve site, and do not join in teamspeak or ventrilo ( though the voice thing for EVE should help here once live).
I realise the choice is not easy. Unless you can steal the wind from his sails though, CCP as a corporation and EVE are going to suffer. I don't want to see that. I have corpmates that are again troubled by these latest revelations, some I talked out of quitting when the first was revealed.
This might be the only way. You might could even just rename all the characters and wipe their corp histories while retaining their skill levels.
I can't think of anything else at the moment, there is no other way as far as I can tell to take out his ammunition. Perhaps something will come though and I'll post again.

Hmmm.
Three thoughts spring to mind.
The first is that it is unfortunate that this has come to light and ruined his character, certainly since I haven't seen any real indication of wrongdoing so far, the allegations levied which I have seen hold no merit as far as I can determine.
My second thought is that is it still a problem for CCP that they have been tainted to the extent where people feel this is needed to expose, and the allergic reactions people show when even the slightest hint of impropriety comes to light. I think it should be a real warning/indication to CCP that past events are not so easily forgotten, and that they will be watched intensely for months and years to come.
The third though that springs to mind is that CCP has allowed the sandbox model to get out of hand. While illegal and all that, I still feel that the actions of the people behind the witchhunt are a natural evolution from the actions we have seen perpetrated within Eve, its community and its alliances for months and years. If you allow teamspeak spies, you force people to scan IPs, its a natural counterreaction, and I could list more examples. And at some point, someone crosses the line, but that is IMO little more than a logical result of a long line of escalating tactics used by people in this game.
And while I personally find the tactics currently in use sufficiently immoral not to engage in them myself, I can't say I feel great moral outrage at the people engaging in them.
The community has let things get to a point where the next 'to be expected' escalation is forumhacking and 'witchhunting'.
So before the community and CCP scream bloody murder, they might want to take a hard look at themselves and the path that has led us to this point and what their role in this 'journey' has been.

So, all the conspiracy (*@#$(@ need to ask themselves this question:
Would you rather play a game where the people developing it take an active role in playing it or would you rather play a game where the development team is completely out of touch with the game they are developing?
I can tell you, I've got first hand experience with the latter situation and I was not pleased.
I'm very pleased at the level of interaction that this dev team has with it's community both in the forums and in the game. It's a real breath of fresh air in an otherwise stifling world of mostly clueless developers.

Condolences to The Enslaver on this one.
Given the timing it seems likely that everything was done right and no abuse occured.
HOWEVER
I can see a point of view that it might be better to get this over with now. If this came out 6 months from now after hundreds of people had The Enslaver on DD lossmails the feelings would be much worse.
I don't think any player wants to think of his fleet getting annihilated from a distance by a GM, even if the abilities came from in-game honest play.
I think GMs in alliances is fine. GMs being the tide-turning force in fleet battles? Maybe not.
Just my 2 cents and trying to see both sides here, and again my condolences to The Enslaver.

I can't believe how warped some of you people's brains are. GMs and Devs playing in Alliances are destroying this game and everyone's trust in CCP and you actually feel sorry when one of them gets caught ... When The Enslaver was hired by CCP and granted his GM rights he should have stopped playing in LV immediately if he'd had any sense of fair play, but he didn't. So this is yet another incident that will drive many people away because they'd rather play fairly.

Take your silly rhetoric elsewhere, the choice you suggest isn't a given, the development team can keep in touch with the game just fine without meddling with Alliances and spawning BPOs for their corps.

This paranoia, which Arkanon and Kieron seem to consider ill-founded, is an inevitable result of the corruption previously uncovered. CCP's insistence on concealing the relationship between CCP staff and their in-game characters will foster rumors and conspiracy theories from now until the end of time. As I've said many, many times, only complete openness from CCP can restore everyone's faith in CCP's integrity.
I agree that the devs need to experience the game, but I don't think they need to do it with long-term characters in 0.0 alliances, nor do they necessarily need to do it anonymously.
