Thrill of the hunt free sp did not quite hit the mark CCP was looking for with log in behavior.
Why not apply a x0.5 skill training multiplier (or higher maybe) only while logged into eve and normal training while not logged in. I realize that you are likely to get more afk toons, but there is a greater probability that they will do something in game since they are logged in anyway.
Take it further to x0.25 multiplier while docked and x0.5 multiplier while in space.
Or keep thrill of the hunt, but instead of free sp you get a 4 hour training modifier. Instead of being a daily, it could be an every 4 hours availability.
Bittervets wont complain cause your not handing out free sp and people actively playing the game can get a small reward. |

So I could keep all of my accounts logged in and cloaked up in space 23.5/7 and get extra training? How would that promote gameplay? |

From what I had been reading, ccp seems primarily concerned with getting people to stay logged in.
Not everyone would be willing to stay logged in cliaked, and even if a large majority does, cloaks will be a hot commodity.
There is also the option of getting the training modifier for doing some sort of interactions in space. The idea is training modifier rather than just free sp. |

I would hop in an interceptor fit for max speed... slap a MWD on it... go to a deep safe spot... then MWD all day while I am at work.
Or I would sit in a POS all day.
Or sit out in space anywhere in high-sec in a super tanky ship all day.
Or remain tethered to a friendly Citadel all day.
Your idea effectively mandates that people log in lest they "lose out" on free skillpoints. And min/max their implants/attributes so they can increase the multiplier as much as possible.
(NOTE: SP accumulation is slightly variable based on what skills you are training, what implants you have, and how many points are in which attributes... meaning you can range anywhere from 1900 to 2400 SP an hour... which can mean the difference between an extra 450 to 600 SP every hour).
The current "dailies," while EXTREMELY distasteful, only offer up a small amount of free SP... and only in small enough chunks over long, timed periods that only newbies and the truly OCD min/maxers are bothered by missing them.
Frankly... if the DEVs want to get players to log in more, they should focus more on ways to encourage conflict, mayhem, and player interaction (both good and bad) than fall back on contrived, gimmicky, and easily abusable mechanics like this.

We were told that "Thrill of the Hunt" was a first pass. I believe it is being removed as intended to make way for the second iteration - "Shadow of the Serpent". We've been told this too is temporary but eventually I expect this to evolve into the tribute system they promised last fall. |

This says it all so I will simply quote to avoid typing it myself. |
