Faction warfare is one of the many many things in EVE which interests me, but which I have not yet had the time and opportunity to explore. However, I hear that faction warfare right now is terribad in myriad ways and just awful - for one thing, there's usually a couple of forum threads around somewhere bemoaning the state of FW; for another, the CSM has stated that FW is one of the things on which they would like to see some more Iteration (TM). However, nobody has ever really stated in a cohesive manner what issues exactly are currently plaguing FW. I have heard things about intel and issues running an effective organization when you're in an NPC alliance, and also complaints about the mechanics of FW, specifically bunkers.
So here (at risk of trolls and various other forum fauna) is my question: what exactly is wrong with faction warfare right now? It's a wonderful idea, in my opinion; what has or hasn't been done to it to make it shine as a valid career path? |

Yes, they have. Repeatedly. On dozens of threads.
The fact you can't be bothered to look for them AND read them is not a reason for yet another FW thread. |

The fw game mechanics are very bad. (Feel free to look in the other 100+ topics about this)
However FW is a lot of fun if you like casual pvp. There are always militia fleets up and its still close enough to highsec to have easy access to trade hubs.
I good piece of advice: Join a player fw corp. Don't stay in the npc militia corp. Fix FW ! |

I good piece of advice: Join a player fw corp. Don't stay in the npc militia corp. WHAT!? Only 100+???!?!?! .. Time to spam some so we can get another digit on that number \o/
Problem with FW is that beyond shooting each other in the face and making more ISK that any rational person could ever need, it doesn't really offer anything .. ie. it matters not if you go or null or FW as you get the same product albeit with different wrapping.
They kicked it off with Coup d'etat's, cloned Empress' and Super Carriers smashing into stations with promises of more :awesomesauce: as well as iteration, yet the storyline has largely remained static for going on 3 years and "iteration" has mainly been "new-and-improved" bugs and squashing thereof.
In short (direct reply to OPquestion): FW lacks consequence.
PS: Scary part is that it is still probably the most fun one can get in Eve today which of course is why majority is overjoyed with CCP's reaffirming their commitment to FiS as the list of things that could be a whole lot better is beyond measure.
