Hello everyone,
I've recently returned to EVE and I'm wondering what has changed since I last properly played (around 2012?). I've been playing since 2004 but in recent years I just didn't have the time to play like I used to. The new interface, ships, game mechanics, alliance mechanics seem overwhelming. Can someone round up 10 of the most important changes I need to be aware of?
Oh, and I noticed there is still the usual "EVE is Dying" threads. We had those things back in 2006 for goodness sake!
Thank you, Martin |

Biggest changes, the UI and Overview have had major revamps. Industry had a major revamp. And now CCP is trying to push players out of NPC stations (before getting rid?). I stick to empire but yea, a lot has changed.
Regarding "Dying".. A game like this is generally like a large Ponzi scheme. You need new players to join the game else it can die - without the user base ever going down by even 1.
Looking at the number of plexes in the game, and how many of those $1,800 floating ships has sold then I would say they are still making money and there is no big worry on that front.
I don't dump money on games at all tho... I have been around long enough to know that "loyal customers" are only there to be loved as long as they have enough of them :P...
At least there are others out there willing to dump thousands on this game every year. |

Skill extractors/injectors make sp a buyable commodity
Citadels have come around with the intent to replace the venerable POS
Industry, Invention, and Research received a major overall with system indices and the removal of production lines
The UI has been completely overhauled and the IGB is going away permanently
Opportunities are a New Player Experience that act as a open-ended prelude to the career agents
Multiple Character Training lets you train another character on the same account and is tradeable on the market
Various new ships like the Tactical Destroyers
Skins that let you change the textures of existing ship models
A new map in beta and Project Discovery, an app based on real science that helps researchers with... some kind of research

I myself just returned after a 3-4 year break.
Skill Points are a commodity. Meaning they can be removed and sold on the market now. Then used by other characters...or you. Instead of ~25 years to train all the skills in EVE there are now around 5-10 fully skilled characters in EVE.
Capitals just got changed and can no longer use drones.
You no longer have to pay for clone upgrades when your skills go beyond the clone capability. You install a clone. It keeps your skills, no more losing SP when you die.
Something to do with Implants and corpses...haven't seen or experienced this one yet, so not sure if you can salvage implants or if it's something else.
T3 Destroyers
New ships
Some kind of mini game that assists in real world research.
Rifter got nerfed. Haven't seen that forum thread. Bet it was entertaining.
No more watchlist. Yeah I know...pretty dumb.
In Game Browser is getting killed in Oct.
That's all I've seen so far. Been a lot of other stuff, but I still haven't bothered to read all the 4 years worth of patch notes.
What I can see though is the game seems to be suffering the feature creep plague like back in 2008-2011. Stuff gets put into the game at an alarming rate, and then left to languish at "just good enough" quality to not completely ruin the game in the short term. Customer service is in dire need of help due to an overwhelming backlog. Account hacking seems to be an issue.
-Edit: P.S. Welcome back to New Eden! |

Heyo! I just returned having been out a few years myself. Welcome back as well.
For me, these are the following most obvious things I've noticed: 1. Everything seems twice the price (at least) it was when I left. My wallet was OK, but now it's pennies in comparison. Perhaps that's just my aging perception...
2. New skills and new equipment and new... everything. Screw that. I'll deal with it later. For now I'm just trying to relearn mining and missions and wondering where the hell I parked my Domi
3. The interface is cleaner, but was intimidating at first. It feels logical now.
4. Skill injectors are neat, but kind of **** me off having started in 2006 and feels anti-EvE IMHO. Grumpy old man stuff maybe.
5. The removal of clone upgrades. I literally spent two days searching for a station with a clone facility that offered upgrade options because I was terrified of losing skill points. I thought it was a feature now buried in station-specific med labs. No. It's just not there anymore. I found out that goes all the way back to 2014. If you were here last in 2012, you may be just as confused as I was on this one....
But then again, I'm a passive high-sec low life turtle, poking my head above water every few years to see what's what. So, YMMV. Two weeks back, maybe that will change. Or maybe I'll be back in another two years? But you're not here for my story! So yes.
Welcome back, and all that jazz.
- scruffy nerf-herder wanna-be.
*EDIT* Damn. Kat few posts up beat me to the clone upgrade thing. Well, hell. I typed all this. It's still going up. |

trying to think of things no one else said,
jump fatigue: there is now a timer based on how often you jump, so you can't jump over and over without consequence.
oh, and goons got kicked out of null, which was fairly entertaining |

Where have they gone to?

Thank you for the helpful replys. Seems there has been tons of changes and it will take some time to get used to them all (if I ever will).
I can't believe SP's are now tradeable.... That doesn't sit well with me. |

Real money stuff: - New Eden store sells skill extractors now. You can buy skill extractors/injectors on the market . it is now possible to have a 3 day old character with 500 mil sp. - Multiple pilot training can be bought in game or with plex. You can train an additional alt on your account at the same time as your main per month per plex.
Major stuff: - Citadels are meant to replace both POS and stations in the future. They arent as good defensively as POS. They can be placed almost anywhere in a system( so you will see them 1000 km off gates and such) and they can be placed in all space including W space. They have tethering so if you are within 10 km of one you become tethered are are invulnerable. Also they will repair your ship automatically while tethered for free while tethered provided they arent hostile to you.
- Dreads and titans can choose between guns for sub caps and guns for caps/ structure bashing. Titans got the ability to use different types of doomsdays which were also revamped. Some of the doomsdays are new and i dont think they are racial anymore.
- super/carriers got a revamp. Fighters got a revamp. Carriers no longer do triage. they are meant to be combat ships. Force auxiliaries are a new type of capital that have taken over the logistics role.
- The camera was reworked. Some people like it some dont. It still has bugs for many. You now have a version of the original camera( orbital), a first person camera that has a dogfighting look, and a tactical camera.
-New pirate capitals( last patch actually) A serpentis dread and titan.
- Tieracide means no more meta level. That is going to probably take you a bit to get use too as it affects all meta levels.
- The rifter got a nerf so they say, the svipul which is a t3 minmatar destroyer however is pretty much the new rifter on steroids.
- T3 cruisers are dirt cheap. Everyone flyies them now. sub systems are very cheap and hulls are about the price of a t2 hull. You can have a fully t2 fitted t3 cruiser for less than 500 mil easily now.
- Faction and deadspace mods are dirt cheap now. Especially deadspace which is often cheaper than faction. You can fully faction/deadspace fit a ratting BS for under billion with t2 rigs( not including hull price).
- Pirate hulls are much cheaper now. maybe half to 3.4 of what they was in 2012.
- NPC dreads can now spawn in o.o anoms and possibly belts( dont know about that one for sure). They are pretty rough if you try to solo. They drop capital loot or something.
- Oh their are a lot of new capital mods as well.
- Jump fatigue doesnt allow you to do force projection as an alliance anymore, And having a jump bridge network is of very limited use.
