i am a noob, i got no clue what i am doing, any help i am offered is a scam. anytime i mine i get ganked by 8yr old toons. a new event started today, nice new shiny screen for scope that actually does nothing. how do i find a serpentis mining and research base? it is not on my menus anywhere. so i go back to mining. want to guess the agee of the toon that ganked me this time? so i started this game for some fun. what i got is a new carreer to grind at while cowards who can't fight people with guns sink me again and again and YOU CONTINUE TO LET THIS HAPPEN.
this is the reason noobs do not stay, your game is set up to entertain the old timejaded players. you only want newbro's, as you put it at fanfest, to be more fodder.
i suggest instead of hiring a psycologist you find a way to stop noobs getting ganked everyday. i am going to the competition because apparently you get a choice if people want to fight you.
so to recap, you could have had my money but you failed

You try to expand your personal frustration to "noobs", but it's still your personal frustration. It's evident by your post that you don't have the proper mind set.
Improper mindset: "Something bad has happened to me, more than once, This game sucks, the developers should do something! To the forums!!!"!!!
Proper EVE mindset: "Something bad happened to me more than once, I must have done something wrong, or there is something, some crucial bit of knowledge or personal skill or tactics, that I'm missing. I'll find out what it is and correct the problem.... no screw that, i'll find out what it is and then exact some revenge on the kinds of people who are doing these things to me, then I'll teach other noobs how to prosper as well".
Some people have (or can develop, after enough of getting their butts kicked) the proper way of thinking for this game or they don't. Decide which on of the above types you are. |

Such is the nature of the game, if you don't like it then nobody is stopping you from leaving; if you're in any doubt about the nature of the game that you're playing then you should read the following statement from the CCP community manager.
CCP Falcon wrote:Okay, so what follows is entirely my personal opinion.
It's not a case of not "catering to the tearfilled entitled", it's a case of us staying true to the core of what EVE was built on.
Some of the people complaining in this thread have valid points about the fact that they don't feel safe. Simple fact of the matter is, that you're not suppose to feel safe in New Eden.
Eve is not a game for the faint hearted. It's a game that will chew you up and spit you out in the blink of an eye if you even think about letting your guard down or becoming complacent.
While every other MMO starts off with an intro that tells you you're going to be the savior of the realm, holds your hand, protects you, nurtures your development and ultimately guides you to your destiny as a hero along with several other million players who've had the exact same experience, EVE assaults you from the second you begin to play after you create a character, spitting you out into a universe that under the surface, is so complex that it's enough to make your head explode.
The entire design is based around being harsh, vicious, relentless, hostile and cold. It's about action and reaction, and the story that unfolds as you experience these two things.
True, we're working hard to lower the bar of entry so that more players can enjoy EVE and can get into the game. Our NPE (New Player Experience) is challenging, and we're trying to improve it to better prepare rookies for what lies out there, but when you start to play eve, you'll always start out as the little fish in the big pond.
The only way to grow is to voraciously consume what's around you, and its your choice whether that happens to be New Eden's abundant natural resources, or the other people who're also fighting their way to the top.
EVE is a playing experience like no other, where every action or reaction resonates through a single universe and is felt by players from all corners of the word. There are no shards here, no mirror universes, no instances and very few rules. If you stumble across something valuable, then chances are someone else already knows where you are, or is working their way toward you and you better be prepared to fight for what you've discovered.
EVE will test you from the outset, from the very second you undock and glimpse the stars, and will take pleasure from sorting those who can survive from those who'd rather curl up and perish.
EVE will let you fight until you collapse, then let you struggle to your feet, exhausted from the effort. Then when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel it'll kick you flat on your ass in the mud again and ask you why you deserve to be standing. It'll test you against every other individual playing at some point or another, and it'll ask for answers.
Give it an answer and maybe it'll let you up again, long enough to gather your thoughts. After a few more steps you're on the ground again and it's asking more questions.
EVE is designed to be harsh, it's designed to be challenging, and it's designed to be so deep and complex that it should fascinate and terrify you at the same time.
Corporation, Alliances and coalitions of tens of thousands have risen and fallen on these basic principles, and every one of those thousands of people has their own unique story to tell about how it affected them and what they experienced.
That's the beauty of EVE. Action and reaction. Emergence.
Welcome to the most frightening virtual playground you'll ever experience.
Quote:hjahaha and i bet you two label yourselves 'content creators'
Everybody in Eve is a content creator, willing or not.
You are content for every other player out there, just as they are content for you.
TL;DR all of your complaints are about things that are in the game by design, or are explicitly sanctioned game-play that has emerged from that design.
Can I have your corpse?

I'm actually happy that this game is unforgiving to new players. Players incapable of dealing with the complexity and/or hardcore nature of the game, such as yourself, are quickly filtered out.
Part of me thinks the OP is a troll, though, because his poor grammar and spelling belies the fact that he bothered spacing paragraphs and is using the forums at all. And he's talking about the Eve fanfest despite the fact that he's a new player. |

What space are you mining in? (Hint: if it's HS it's not as safe as you think) What is your ship fit? What does your corp tell you?
If you do a little Google-fu you can and will find info that will keep you safer. It's not meant to be easy or simple, but you can build up decent defenses. It starts with finding a half-decent corp too. Even corps of noobs can band together and figure out something.

James, since you're not Doomheim yet, I'll try to help out some.
I completely get where you are coming from. It's exceptionally frustrating to keep trying to build something up only to have some ya-hoo come along and mess it all up. It wastes your time and efforts.
You are seeing that very same effect in this very thread. Some EVE players can be exceptionally jaded. CCP Falcon's post is a bit of an eye opener and it comes down to how you are going to take the news that EVERYTHING in EVE is PvP.
Oddly, CCP Falcon's post is just his opinion and not official CCP doctrine (but it's close enough). That's the point, even if every EVE developer came here to offer their opinion, because this is a sandbox game, it's just that. As long as you play within the rules of the sandbox, the game is what YOU make of it, and while those opinions determine the arc and general focus of the game, it's actually so broad you can pretty much do whatever you want with it if you're clever enough.
Thus, we have about a hundred different, common, play styles. Some are more clearly in the intended game play than others.
HiSec ganking is completely allowed. If you want to be a HiSec miner, you have to allow for that. It means you have to adjust your gameplay to deal with the gankers. Hone your skills and get some help if you need it. Join a HiSec mining corp and they will show you the ropes. There are players that have built up a complete pseudo religion around the play style to justify it. You accept that and move on, though I suggest you avoid the Kool-Aid they drink.
So, when you come here and tell us why all the new players leave, you aren't saying much new to us. We are all very aware of the learning/game play curve that newcomers are up against.
However, if 1 out of 20 'new' players find the game a challenge they can rise to, then we have another EVE player on board. It's not up to CCP or the players to make your life easier, it's up to you to determine if you are capable of the challenge of EVE or not. If you are the more rare person, then come play the game. If you find this isn't for you, thank you for trying the game and if you run across someone you think might be up to the challenge, send them our way.

Getting started in EVE Online can be somewhat daunting for new players or rookies. A number of system in which new players typically start are deemed 'Rookie System' and in these systems (listed below) a measure of protection is offered to new players.
This protection also extends to systems in which 'Career Agents' are located and as well as to systems associated with The Blood Stained Stars - Sisters of EVE Epic Arc.
Attempting to abuse a new players lack of knowledge of the game and its mechanic for your personal gain or simply for their harm is prohibited in these solar systems. This includes, but is not limited to; tricking new players into situations where you or others may open fire on them freely or scamming ISK or assets from them. Players are advised to reconsider any aggressive action against new players in the following systems:

I didn't know 'hand' was a word that needed censoring, or perhaps you were thinking of another body part? If so, I don't think we eat using the same body part(s) but to each their own.
I'm with James here on the 'content creation' mantra. If everyone is a content creator then it's an irrelevant term. It's like saying all pay to play EVE players are financially supporting the game... really? Must we state the obvious?
So the term either applies to everyone, in which case it's a meaningless fluff term, or, it's a feel good term ship to ship PvP players use to justify and try to protect their play style. I'm not knocking it in the latter case, just pointing out that the play style doesn't need justification or protection as it's a primary play style intended by the game. It just is unnecessary to use the term at all in either case.

EVE can be extremely frustrating. Old PvP Players squash you like a bug for no other reason that they could. I was hunted down by a pair that used cloacky ships around 70times the value of my ship: I didn't stand a chance. I wouldn't advise mining for noobs because you are in a known position (belts) that these leet-PvP-player don't have to probe. Missions are much better because they have to probe you down which you can see in the D-Scan. If you see combat-probes it's time to go. Quickly. You didn't do anything wrong but this is how the game is played by some. |

Dont give up just yet. Go to the Recruitment forums and look for Corps that are willing to take on New players and shown them the ropes. Eve Uni is one that spriings to mind. There are older players out there willing to take on new players and teach them to adapt and play the game the way it should be played; as a giant sand box.
Mining is only one side of the game and remenber space pixels can't kill you. Learn to adapt. Go and learn to fight / gank somebody instead of being a target.
Do the Sisters of Eve epic get some iskies under your belt and learn to PVP in cheap TI frigates. You will die often but eventually it will click into place if you talk to your oppnent even if it is to say good fight when you lose most are willing to chat.
Remember it's a game with many facets stick with it and eventually you will have fun. Not all older players are Gankers, some are generally nice people.
TLDR: Learn to adapt and try something else apart from mining if it is still not working out for you.
I expect to get this post deleted or locked. So much for freedom of expression.
