Alright, so all of you optimization warriors that just love to get the best results/hour of any activity, let me show you by far the quickest and most efficient way to farm these sites. Using this tactic you can cut your time in the site from 9 minutes, down to 90 seconds!
First of all you guys are gonna go to Jita and buy yourselves a battleship. It doesn't really matter which as long as it's got 8 highslots, a dronebay, and at least 5 mids.
Next you're gonna buy some important stuff. You're gonna need 3 cap batteries, a kinetic or thermal hardener, and a 100mn AB. Last but not least, you're going to buy 8 large graviton smartbombs. Those are the most important. Now you guys probably think I'm crazy. Not so.
All of the ships in the shipyard and research facility orbit you at 5-6km. Now, what that means, is if you give them 30 seconds to settle around you, using 2 or 3 pulses of your smartbombs you can kill every, single, one. The only problem is you have to have decent smartbombs.
On what smartbombs to get, kinetic is their primary weakness so you're going to want to buy gravitons. Also, 5km on the t1 just won't cut it. You'll be slowboating around trying to catch them all and then warping away and back as you wait to regain capacitor. Good news though, if you don't have the skills for t2 large smartbombs there are handy dandy faction variations available in the larger trade hubs. These actually get MORE range than t2, giving another useful 250meters. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a good improvement. They also consume much less capacitor incase you think it's a good idea to waste cap by starting a rave party.
All you have to do in site, is burn towards the can a little bit until you're near the middle of their group. Stop, and wait for them to all notice you and swarm you. Once they're all close, pulse your smartbombs a couple times and there will be a bunch of floating wrecks around you :) Just make sure that, if you're doing it in highsec, there's nobody nearby.
On the off chance you managed to screw up this very simple process, just use the drones on your ship and nuke the survivors as they cower from your mighty smartbombs.
A sample fit might go like this
[Rokh]
x8 smartbombs (T2 or even better faction gravitons remember)
3x cap batteries 1x kin hardener 1x therm hardener 1x 100mn AB
Who cares what goes in the lows, maybe cap recharge if you really feel like it but as long as you only pulse your SBs when every ship is within range they should all go down before cap becomes a problem.
Maybe hyperspatial rigs for optimal farming speed
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the best and fastest way to run the new Shipyard and Research Facilities.

Everyone is warping to those sites now and they are crowded in High sec so running smartbombs there is not really an option. Maybe only if you are sure there is no one there and no one will warp and try to get to can before you, or with premeditation trying to be smartbombed and concordokenning you.

Nice, find a nice quite area and this would be pretty baller. I'd get concorded because someone would jump in, so I'll stick to a trio of gilas but this could be fun in some of the surrounding lowsec areas. |

I had this idea last night but was low on isk after upgrading my legion a bit. Best faction smartbombs are true sanshas and they about 150 mill a pop.
Would recommend a MJD aswell just in case you mess up and need to get away. Plus the sites spawn better loot in the lower security areas. Quiet low secs easy to find. Warp in rave up and be winners.
Wormholes are good too but no local warning of ganks. |

Gravitons are best because they do the most damage, and they're also a **** ton cheaper. Currently they're only about 60m/pop in Jita sell orders for the caldari navy and dread gurista ones.
What I see the most effective way of doing it is in lowsec like you described, and fit all lows with warp core stabs because you don't actually have to lock anything if you do it right. As long as there's no more than 3 other people in local you should be okay, even if you get dropped by a cloaky tackle stratios you can warp off.

They're quite literally everywhere, just make sure you have beacons checkmarked on your overview and they spawn in all space. The only one really worth running though is the serpentis shipyard and research facility, unless you have a specific mission saying you need to run another one.

I have a different method for high sec sites that doesn't need you to change the safety :)
- Get yourself your favourite Battlecruiser or Battleship - I chose the Myrmidon, stick on a MJD.
- Warp to site
- Drag central group away from the citadel by moving away from the warp-in point at 90 degrees (up or down)
- Kill the frigates first (try not to use drones just yet as they will aggro the other groups)
- If you clear the frigates quickly enough you should be able to target the remaining cruisers and battlecruisers from the group
- Start killing the remaining ships from the group and keep an eye on your distance from the loot can
- Use your afterburner if necessary to make sure you are approximately 100km off the loot can
- Once all the ships from central group are dead MJD to the can :)
- If you like you can drop sentries now and blitz the rest of the ships whilst collecting your reward

There's a small chance of getting the new armor repair implants, and each site you run gains you points towards unlocking the bonus cans, which have stuff like boosters which speed up your training for a day and also skins and random junk.

I'm using a Deimos now and jump right into the crowd. The rats come almost into optimal range for Antimatter or Void and the blasters melt through the heap of ships like a hot knife through butter. Tank on the Deimos is fine, even for full pocket aggro from all 3 groups. One has to add an explosive armor hardener for the occasional Angel reinforement group though and then it's advisable to kill the Angels first to reduce the incoming explosive damage quickly.
Someone told me the nice trick to put myself into a fleet so I can tag all rats in the middle group with "1" before the battle starts. (Of course that doesn't work anymore if someone is already at the site and all 3 groups are intermingled.) I clear all ships tagged with "1" first and then either immediately MWD to the loot can or finish the remaining ships off for the bounties. If somebody comes in when I'm killing the remaining ships and threatens to fly to the research facility I usually stop the fight and burn to the loot can.
If someone is interested in the fitting:

Vespa II x5
Void M x16460 Antimatter Charge M x240
Maybe I will try a missile boat during the course of the event, just for the change. (Changing ships and trying new fittings might make that repetitive grind a bit more interesting.) I see that most people appear to prefer missile cruisers (lots of Gilas, Orthrus', Tengus around), sometimes I see battlecruisers like Myrmidon, Drake, Gnosis, rarely an Assault frig (Jaguar, ...), and even more unpopular battleships seem to have become.

Been experimenting with a lot of ships. HAMgu would be nice, until someone warps in and sits on the beacon while you're camping the can, and then you can't reach the rats that aggro on them. This is mostly only a concern if you're in highsec.
And so I've found HMLgu to be pretty much ideal for me. Warp in, mark all the center rats, turn on tank/AB, orbit can at 500m, proceed to kill. I usually start by 1-shotting the frigates, then take out the BCs/cruisers. Permatanks the entire pocket, but you won't be in there very long. As an added bonus, it's extremely rare for someone to gank the can, as there is only a tiny window in which the rats aren't all mixed up and only you have the center ones marked.
Kinda sucks for the Angel sites though.
I personally don't want to go any larger than a cruiser, as I seem to spend much more time warping around than I do actually running the sites.
Fit could definitely be optimized some more (especially the rigs), I just grabbed what I had laying around and threw it on my former HAMgu.

I managed to get gold about week ago and stopped pretty much after. I used HAM Cerberus, 700dps to about 39km. I usually sat at beacon while mid grp agroed me, dropped frigs while they were coming towards me. After frigs died, i stared moving toward the box while cycling mwd once, cruisers and the bcs usually died same time when i was at looting range of the box. I didnt need to kill the sidegroups since i had all the remaining middle group ships locked so i just killed them and ignored sides. Usually I had about 10 HAMs in tubes when last middle group ship died, so i could just reload on way to the next beacon. |

I just warp in and sit at the entry point, Gila with light nova missiles. Let middle group come out and kill frigates, then cruisers and when the final 5 are targeted move to can while the rest is killed with hammerheads. I get to the can for the 1st spawn before the side group catches up and kill them with hobs (frigs) and hammerheads (cruisers).
Usually by the time I get all of them the 2nd spawn is in the can so I grab that, loot whatever ships I can and jump out..
Normally 6-7 minutes.. on average 6-10M ISK of loot, have gotten a few implants of 130M +..
No need to spend millions on anything else.. When there's Angels mixed in it's a bit harder. Also have run into a few wing leaders who have faction loot.. |

A polarized harb worked well enough. Sit on the beacon, lock all the frigates, start pegging them with microwaves as they come in. If you shield tank, you can put 3 HS and 2 tracking enhancers in the lows, and take an optimal rig. Mids are MWD and large extenders.
I put a nano in the other low so it would be a little easier to respond to stuff MWDing at close range. Salvage drones don't aggro Serpentis, so I carried a flight of those and set them to work once stuff started dropping.
If you get into a stay-on-the-box contest with that ship, it loses.
