Train caldari cruisers to lvl3 and mining to lvl3 and fit a few miners and get mining. Osprey is good for that purpose :). You could also get lvl1/lvl2 agents and try your luck there, I don't know about the combat capabilities of an Osprey tbh, but they should be fair enough to go with a few missile launchers/turrets. Just be sure to fit a medium shield booster and enough cap rechargers to run it.

Seriously... Osprey = Best Caldari Cruiser for Mining.
Osprey is also the name of a large Wetland bird. ------------------------------------- The difference between a Pirate and an Anti-Pirate is that an Anti-Pirate fights ships fitted with guns!

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 06/03/2007 23:32:48 An Osprey is not exactly made out to be a combat ship, being mainly designed for mining and remote shield boosting support. However, it should be enough to take on level 2 missions. Try the following:
2x Heavy Missile Launcher 2x Medium-size Railgun ----- 1x Medium Shield Booster 2x active Shield Hardeners (though passive Resistance Amplifier ones will do if you can't fit the active ones yet). Try and fit the hardeners according to what enemies you'll face (Kin/Therm for Guristas/Serpentis, EM/Therm for Blood Raiders/Angel Cartel/Mercenaries) 1x 10 MN Afterburner (for additional mobility) OR 1x Shield Boost Amplifier (for additional tank, recommended) ----- 1x Ballistic Control Unit 1x Magnetic Field Stabilizer 1x Damage Control (gives you time to get the hell out of there when you drop into armor/hull) ----- 4x Light Scout Drone (train until you can use all 4 at once, it's worth it)
For all modules goes, as always: fit the best ones you can afford to lose!

if you want a low rent ospray setup i would go with using:
2 standard missle launchers 1 2 125 rail gun 1
3 large shield extenders 1 1 10mn afterburner
3 power diag 1
that will tank all level 1 and 2 missions without you even thinking about it, and get you around at a reasonable pace without thinking bout cap.
dont fit any named stuff, just the cheapest t1.
to mine, just fit miners instead of guns, keep your mids and lows the same. That should be good enough for anything upto .5 space.
If you dont have the cpu for the fitting, swap a pdu for a nanofiber.
even with absolutely no skills this is cap independant even with all modules running and will tank anything a level 2 will throw at you.

That works too, but you'll have less dps than a Merlin (disounting drones). That may make some of the level 2 missions that throw multiple cruisers at you problematic. See how much powergrid you have left over and try to get at least one heavy launcher in.
Try and get used to the whole resistances thing sometime though, later-on in the game the resist-less pure HP passive tank style generally fails...

i was under the impression you wouldn't have had the heavy missle skill. if you do, then remove 1 large extender from my setup and fit heavy launchers instead of light.
Replace the extender with a shield recharger.
this gives you 5500 shields repping around 25 hp/s which should be fine.
