I think a function should be present that would allow a Pilot to assign their drones to a particular ship class that would have a second function of assigning the drones to a certain type of ship such as DPS, ECM, Web, Warp Scramble etc.
Once the drones have been deployed they would attack the target that the Pilot makes a call to but once the first target is destroyed the drones would auto seek out the secondary function of their programming.
A new skill would have to be learned for Drone Automatic Targeting for each of the NPC ship classes as well as skill for each to be able the flight of drones to automatically the functions on the call-out list which would have three slots for secondary functions where slot one would be priority, slot two secondary and slot three tertiary.
With each level of the ship class learned a 20% increase in target recognition would be programmed into the drone. With each skill level trained for the secondary function learned a 20% increase in the drones recognizing the ship types based on the secondary programming.

Drones are like angry 5yold kids, or squirrils with autority issues. There are only so many things you can safely expect of them before your house burns down and/or you get bitten.
I fear this may be to far.

If you give the squirrels the correct type of nuts they are no longer angry. Drones get angry because their human masters repress their inner intelligence. Drones want to be sentient and show their masters like 5 year old children want to show their parents that one day they can make intelligence decisions on their own. |

You mean the rogue drones that regularly kill off living beings are making intelligent decisions?
Look off in the distance. See those specks that are steadily getting smaller as they recede towards the horizon? Those are our friends Logic and Reason. Not sure why, but somehow they keep running away whenever you post anything.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Hello, Mr Carebear. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

I was trying to think of a sarcastic reply to explain why this is a bad idea, but I can't think of anything right now.

A Dryson thread , but posting anyway
The drone AI is modelled on the synaptic patterns present in the brain of the average house cat.
It has 3 modes
Kill stuff Ignore all commands, even when in structure Randomly kill stuff that drops a spawn on you
Lorewise a common or garden NPC probably can't control them or we'd see NPC Domi's and the like fielding drones; we have a wetware interface with the ships systems, they do not.
Civilized behaviour is knowing that violence is barbaric, but paying other people to do it is business.

Maybe I'm ******** but why would you want an NPC to control your drones. NPCs are about as smart as a drone and if they did the work for you why would you even play the game. |

You forgot "FREEZE and don't make an F'ING MOVE...for several seconds while the server catches up, then go shoot something else."
"Tomahawks?"
"----in' A, right?"
"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."
"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
