Has a Dev said whether they will have to be on grid when boosts are changed to be On-Grid? |

Long term, yes. Initially maybe not. Depends if they are happy with the state of mining boost ships being forced on grid at whatever time they change combat boosts to on grid only. |

How about: Remove mining boosts all together and just increase ship yield to match? Gets rid of entry level for efficient mining and would automatically force a revamp for Orca / Rorqual so they can be more useful in other areas than providing support, like, actually mining themselves. |

Can't see them being on-grid unless they were fittable to something the same size / capability / price as a command ship. There is literally no good reason to make industrials (i.e. the ships explicitly limited in their offensive capability) be the only ones that have to be immobilized for 5 minutes to give their links. |

FYI, Rorqual rework is coming up. Unless we know the details of that, we can't say things like "ONGRID IS BAD". Who knows, maybe it becomes so ******* awesome you wish you had 20 ongrid. |

20 pilots do not want to be on grid for hour after hour just in case the fleet gets attacked.
Guard duty is a lame way to play a game. Mining is one thing. Watching someone else mine....? At least when mining, you get to see the ore pile up.

hopefully all links for anything are on-grid only soon. Giving a benefit to other ships when in a POS/safe spot/ hugging a station/etc is ridiculous. |

In a game built around pvp and harshness one where miners are attacked mercilessly by everyone and the ships are walking pinatas with ZERO offensive capabilities I will NEVER believe that rorqual, mining and awesome will ever be a part of CCPs plans such as you suggest. I think that this statement is one of the most naive things Ive ever read on the forums tbh.
In all of the ideas presented so far "on-grid" equates to death for a miner.
Have you heard anything I've said?
You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?
That's right.
Had to end sometime.

In highsec it wont matter much. People that use Orca's always have them in the belt for hauling and changing crystals anyway. The only thing the change will do is hurt new players that have a friendly miner in system. Its probably not as common anymore but it used to be a practice for people to offer free boosts to new players that where mining. Just let them join fleet for the bonus to help them out and make a friend and all they had t do was be in the same system.
WHS, Null ect will be hurt the most. No more having a Rorqu boosting from a bubble. They will either have to chance it or settle for an Orca on grid. |

I could lay out some thoughts and arguments on it, but i just figured if everyone keeps believing that ongrid, mining Rorquals are a bad idea the prices will stay low and it will be way easier for the smart guys to set up their billion-isk-per-hour mining colonies. |

Hmm good point. Look what all is on schedule for this Fall:
- Industrial Arrays (Citadels)
- Fleet Boosts Rework
- Rorqual Rework
- Mining Barge Overhaul
That list is not mere coincidence... I'll bet that these tie together way more than we have been told.
I wonder if the Industrial Arrays are able to give will give a moderate boost to mining yield in system, then Rorqual/Orca will grant much better On-Grid yield...
If On-Grid boosting becomes the only way to have equal mining yields, Low and Null are going to be totally screwed. |

Yeah...should CCP contort their game design to accommodate people who wish to run botted AFK mining ops for "hours"?
Much better question.

"on-grid" is quite a large portion of space these days. if a miner cant warp to a rorq to swap then warp back to the field i dunno anymore.

I kind of remember CCP Fozzie saying that fleet boosts would have a maximum range, like a Smartbomb that grants the boost for a limited time. On-Grid is just easier to say. I'll bet there will be a Leadership skill affecting range.
Their first thought would be to make all boosts have the range determined by the same mechanics... So the first iteration's max range will probably be determined by the range needed for large 0.0 fleets. 100km to 500km would be my stab in the dark. |

Yes, all boosts are going to eventually be required to be on-grid. I believe they're planning on reworking the Rorqual and possibly the Orca as part of the changes. |
