Is there a penatly for manually disabling miners mid cycle? It sucks when a strip miner finishes it's cycle and only retrieves 5 ore or so becuase the roid popped.
I was thinking of manually deactivating and reactivating as soon as I have enough cap to cover all three strip miners. Has anyone else tried this?

I sometimes stop my miners II on my mining cruiser, you get the ore for the time it was activated. It should be the same for the strip miners, they are just bigger mining lasers and should have the same stopping behaviour.
Maybe you should just target 3 different roids and run one strip miner on each, it wold avoid 1 strip miner finishing the roid and both others finishing cycle empty. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! Flying Vexor and Ishkur, Myrmidon was too slow, got ganked by 3 BC and a Megathron...

Assuming they behave the same as regular mining lasers, they should deactivate instantly, giving you what ore they have retrieved up to the time you deactivated them (IOW, the closer to the next cycle you are, the more ore you will get). You will also expend their full cap use when re activating them. So no, apart from wasting cap there isn't really a penalty for togling your miners, and it is in fact recommended practice when dealing with a nearly depleted roid (as is putting your miners as much as possible on different roids so you will only lose the productivity of one miner when that roid gets depleted). |

If you stop a strip miner mid cycle, you still have to wait til the 3min cycle is finished before you can reactivate, so theres no point. But yeah it does suck when theres only 5 units of ore left . ______________

Totaly wrong. As long as you got enought cap you can enable it again instant.
Use scanner and count. It also make time pass.

I would dispute this - I often stop my strip miners in mid-cycle (sometimes after just a few seconds) if I have activated them on the wrong 'roid, and I have never had to wait for the remainder of the 3 minute cycle.
The main downside of stopping/restarting them before the cycle is over is cap usage - the cap will often not have recovered enough from the initial start to be able to handle a second start, and you have to wait for a while.

Edited by: Horace Harkness on 07/03/2007 16:22:41 Agreed, there is no penalty, and you do not have to wait 3 minutes. As long as you have the cap you can re-activate immediately. Using the survey scanner can save you considerable time as it allows you to stop a cycle when a 'roid is dead and move on sooner. As the very first reply to this thread said, SOP.

My bad. I dont do mining so you'll forgive me for my lack of knowledge in that department. Most other modules operate on this principle though eg. Seige modules, Afterburners etc. ______________

The only mining laser that will not give you a lesser amount if interrupted is the ice harvester.
