We all know people at CCP can be a bit odd, but now SoniClover has completely stepped over the line and is calmly entering insanity. He has his own bible, and apparently an fetish for amazons. Although I have to agree with the last part, amazons are... interesting.
SoniClover writes about the EVE Bible, what it will mean for the development of EVE, the impact the CCP/White-Wolf merger will have and of course, amazons. Head over to the Dev Blog section and hear SoniClover Preaching to the Choir!
I, for one, welcome our new high priest SoniClover.

/me scratches head. That is the most cryptic dev blog i've ever read. Clover you need to get a buddy, to help you channel your creative genious into some semblence of communication that we understand. "I have a mouse with a green tail". It's tail may or may not be green. The car however is mating with a monkey".

We are working on a player guide, something more updated and maybe more detailed than the current one, but no ETA unfortunately. It will come when it's done.
We also have an Evelopedia planned, no ETA there either, though it's something I personally really want so I troll people every chance I get for it to come faster.

So, you have a loose collection of random scribbles and notes made as you awake at 3am in a cold sweat (why is it always the ideas that comes to you at night, always turn out to be a little less than overwhelming come the next day).
Am I to take this blog as more of the, oooooh thereÆs a monster on the horizon, look out for it when it gets into the city?
I like the sound of more EVE media, I am an avid reader of the Chronicles, and enjoy sites like Warp drive active, so EVE books, comics, and dare I even say Movies (CGI of course) would go down a storm. ------ I am Legend |

For the love of the Adama, just add a wiki to website that can be used from the IGB. While you're at it, include the Item Database as well. The users will write that Bible for you.

Trivia:-
The idea of a "bible" in the gaming industry was first conceived by the pen and paper rpg designers, at scotlands only rpg company, Nightfall (no longer "trading") back 1992, notably by games designer and artist David Allsop.
Nightfall was sold to wizards of the coast and the idea of a "bible" filtered through the rest of the industry. The orginal "Writers Bible" was for a game called "SLA Industries" a nightmarish game of horror set in a dystopia otherworld, where all is not what it seems.

You may laugh at me but some time ago I have seen a documentation/portrait about JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter. I am not a Harry Potter fan, I might be a little bit too old for this, but some statements caught my attention.
JK Rowling said the fantasy world of Harry Potter is fully painted out to the smallest detail inside her head. She said only a small margin of this makes it into her books but everything around it still 'exists' inside her head. This makes her stories believable. It is a world where everything fits. I think it's the same with Tolkien and other succesful authors. The love for the small details makes such fantasy worlds believable.
In countless discussions with other roleplayers over the past years it became clear that many of us do have their very own vision about the details of the eve background that are not yet described in your PF. Many of our different visions are (sometimes surpringly) very close to each other while others are not.
Such a bible could help a lot and is badly needed but I wonder how you can work out even the smallest details (I say that's impossible) in a team and find a common demoninator. I wonder how your team can manage to handle the different visions of your team members. Will your whole team discuss every detail of every product before publishing or is there one boss with a 'master vision'?
Inconsistent PF often was a problem for us roleplayers. I can speak only for me, I love your backgroundstory but I gave up hope that you will ever reach the quality (lack of inaccuracies) of others. There were countless promises to remove such inaccuracies over the past four years. I will start to believe you when you start to correct old mistakes such as the statement "A new minor-family took the place of KhanidÆs family in the royal court and the current Emperor, Heideran VII, is the first emperor from that minor family" from the Amarr succession chronicle.

Is there an official eve-online CCP wiki? It would be a great source of player research for any data needed for A) player guides B) Lore and the "bible according to eve players"
Cheers, I am a huge fan of PAPER guides and books on a game, i'd much rather read it and hold it instead of thru a screen.
It would be great if it was laced with short player stories and accounts too.

So you are telling us that a book that we all want to read may or may not exist, and we may or may not ever get to read it?
Ya know, I can think of plenty of other "teasers"
This just seems to be something rather like "Hey! You! Over there by the coffee machine! Go write a blog!" "Yessir Mr. Hellmar sir!

That's what the Evelopiedia project I mentioned above is about.

I believe most of the better writes does that, the only thing that annoyes me is when they have a glorious past but their books are about the current bad times and how to set things right, I want to read about that glorious past as well.

I've been printing off every decent game guide I've found on the forums so far, in an attempt to make my own little "game guide" I have now resorted to a small filing cabinet for all my eve-needs.
:)
This would be awesome :D

Unfortunately, it turns out that the best stories happen during the bad times.

Edited by: Grismar on 08/03/2007 19:12:57 Edited by: Grismar on 08/03/2007 19:10:20 I've always wondered to what extent EVE was following some "master plan", set down in scripture a long time ago (before the beginning of time actually, also known as 'beta').
It would be interesting to not just read an up to date, good-to-publish-because-all-secrets-blacked-out version. I would buy, read and probably re-read a book about the development of EVE both as a game (mechanics, engine, logic) and a setting. I guess it would be less about EVE and more about making EVE, a sort of 'making of'.
There's lots of details in EVE that seem to have been made up as we went along. And a lot of stuff got changed in the game mechanics because the original ideas didn't work as well as expected, or because players thought of ways of using them that worked too well. Mines and bookmarks. 'Nuff said. And those new bloodlines really don't just -happen- to cater to the Asian market either.
Not that I'm opposed to such change. On the contrary, I think it's fascinating and if anyone at CCP feels like documenting it, even if in retrospect, I think that would be a damn good read for both EVE-fans and MMO designers.
