Hi all, this is the Loki combat build I've been using to complete combat sites while doing low-sec exploration. I was wondering if there are ways to improve it. 5/10 sites take some time to clear in this ship, especially battleship rats, but I assume that's normal. Can tank most sites with ease, but was unable to complete a Guristas Hallucinogen Supply Point because I couldn't get in range of the overseer.
Stats DPS is 461.7 from turrets and 89 from drones (550.7 total). ~25,929 hp based on resists. Ship is completely cap stable.
Goal - Looking to boost damage output where possible. I love the ship, but I think it can be improved. Also, for the sake of insanity, am I better off flying a Tengu? Lol!
Highs - 425mm AC II 425mm AC II 425mm AC II 425mm AC II 425mm AC II Sisters Probe Launcher

Subs - Adaptive Shielding Locus Analyzer Proj Scoping Array Fuel Catalyst Cap Regen Matrix

You said exploring but you don't even have a data or relic analyzer on? And how is it possible that you fly a super advanced boat with all t2 mods in 5 months?

I can fly a proteus just fine due to the magic of injectors, and combat exploration doesn't require an analyzer. |

As I mentioned in my OP, this is my combat exploration fit (to complete combat sites). I just carry around the analyzers I need and refit at a mobile depot/station. Also, my alt is the one flying the ship, I just forgot to switch characters for forum posting.
Aside from that, do you have any feedback on how to improve the damage capacity of this ship?
Thank you!
Coralas wrote:The OP can get a small amount of damage increase with a couple of faction gyros, similar damage increase from a turret implant and a med projectile implant (pair of 3%s is perfectly fine to lose, 5%s you might think about twice), and if the tank was seriously blinged, can switch to a 6 turret build by changing the engineering, though it might also wind up being very expensive but only slightly better because it loses a mid and at least 1 low.
Good call on the implants and the faction-specific loadout. I appreciate it. I will also look into switching into a six turret build. Will give it a shot. I think I loaded up on too much tank and I can sacrifice a little of it for damage output.
Oooh thank you! This is a similar build mentioned by Coralas. |

Thank you for the build. I appreciate it.
Again, thank you for the additional fit. When you say that the Tengu would still do better do you refer to more damage, more tank, and completing sites faster? All three?
Thanks! |

Most people here (and on reddit too) are too quick to dismiss other t3 cruisers as inferior compared to Tengu. In nullsec, doing sites which require lots of tank, I also agree Tengu is the king. You can find blingy fits with X-type X-large shield boosters and other shenanigans which handle what other T3s wouldn't. But you aren't looking for that kind of ship.
Let's look at the Tengu equivalent of the Loki fit I posted earlier: https://o.smium.org/new/7597925892563664896 It has slightly better tank (and there is still one midslot to increase the tank further), slightly more dps and slightly better range. It also costs more, doesn't have probe launcher (if it had, the new slot layout would make it quite ineffective) and has trouble clearing frigates. Moreover, when flying Loki, if you switch to Hail you'll actually get more dps then that Tengu.
A few months ago I was in similar situation as you, looking for the best ship to clear C3 anomalies. Trained into Tengu cause everyone said it's the best ship. Then I discovered that between 10 second charges switching and poor application against frigates, Legion does the same job in the same time (even if it's worse on paper) while not being reliant on restocking charges every 10 sites. Now I'm flying this ~shameless self promotion~ https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6478096 and couldn't be more satisfied.
To sum it up, your favourite T3 cruiser is perfectly viable for the job.

Tengu is better than any other T3 99% of the time, even when firing non-kinetic missiles.
A properly fitted tengu puts out 900 DPS which fully applies to cruisers and applies 50% to frigs. Frigs have low enough EHP that this 50% doesn't really matter.
https://o.smium.org/loadout/87511 can be tweaked to take on any faction of rat quite easily, and can drop a guidance computer for a boost amp for more tank.
Paper DPS on a loki is really low and due to falloff you're rarely getting more than 80% of it applied.
The only T3 that comes anywhere close to the tengu for PvE is the Legion. |

I get what people are saying about the Tengu being clearly superior -- it is in this case. But it's not the only viable option.
The problem here is that the Loki really isn't a viable option, at least not in my book. Forget raw damage -- it's low, but it's not horrifyingly low. Look at projeciton. 1.5+25? There's no way in hell you want to be within 20km of your targets running low sec exploraiton sites, and it's no wonder you struggled in a 5/10. The web towers and the overseer are both outside optimal+falloff.
Don't feel obligated to use a Tengu; I very much like a beam Legion and there's nothing inherently wrong with a rail Proteus either. But neither medium ACs nor artillery really cut it in exploration |

Legion isn't bad, damage at range is about the same as a tengu, the issue is that your DPS maxes out at 700 vs 900 for a tengu and when it comes to burning down battleships that matters.
Medium AC/arty are pretty junk right now, and have been for a while. |

Zhilia hit the nail on the head. Tengu is just superior because of the damage PROJECTION.
Yes you can get your paper dps on other T3s close to the Tengu but can you get it close to it's range? Nope. |

Tengu is mostly great for its missile range, that you can shoot those neut/web towers while being tripple+ webbed you can't close in on range. Regen fit Tengu can also do respectable damage at the same long range while having insane tank + cap regen good enough to withstand sleeper BS neuts or even a max skilled Curse.
If you are against Guristas/Serpentis though, then Ishtar/Drone Proteus can get excellent tank due to its resist profile and can avoid the range issues by using drones as primary damage source, and comes with the benefit of not having to restock ammo all the time. Gila is also a good ship for similar benefits of drones, and you can fit rapid lights to quickly dispatch webbing/scrambling frigs.
Loki I personally haven't used much for PVE. It has benefit of refittable cloak/nullifier sub for travels, but for the actual PVE content Mach can do just as well or better, and they are really cheap these days.
