Yes, It's out! I've blogged a list of changes on my blog covering the 2D Eve maps. Plus it comes with a free A1 poster for low-sec, which shows all the relevant low sec systems from all maps :)
/Serenity.
awesomeness, ordered.
I was just a little confused by the store page which still says Pre-order.

could have had a little heads up / advertising that a 2nd edition was on it's way. I only ordered my "first edition" a couple months ago and now it's obsolete.
thanks a lot for wasting my money

FYI the quote on the minimap page has an extra 'S' in the address which could throw some people off:
"How MINIMAPS.EVE-MAPS.COM works"
it should be:
"How MINIMAP.EVE-MAPS.COM works"

the new ESM is pure awesomeness. got mine today and I have to say, the changes are great! many thanks for full system index. only one question: what does gray color in the system name signify? some systems in index are grayed out and I can't figure out why.

Glad you like it :)
Greyed out systems in the index; These are strategically important systems which appear on "other" region maps. eg. - A high-sec system near the edge of 0.0 would be on several other maps - A system with a 0.0 outpost near the edge of a map would appear on other maps - A 0.0 outpost next to a low-sec system would appear on other maps - A system that connected several regions would appear on several maps

Edited by: Tari Redhel on 10/10/2008 20:53:31 For some reason the minimap doesn't show for me. The most I get is an empty border :-(
Further investigation reveals that no gifs are visible to me in the igb. Jpg's work fine though. |

Ah good to know - thanks for determining the reason as well; That's a pretty easy conversion for me to make.

Just took a quick look at the Faction Warfare map:
http://www.eve-maps.com/download/factionwarfare/GallenteCaldariFactionalwarMapv1-1.pdf
Heads up the Red and the Green colors are really close for a r/g color blind person. I would consider changing the brightness of the green color and making it a bit darker or increasing the width of the high sec lines.
Also i really like how the figure ground is laid out with the region labels sitting below the system routes and labels. nice work.
cheers, Tumbles

I have the same problem with IGB. No image when load minimap. Btw, work fine in an out of game browser.

It's fixed. There was an alliance with a NULL value for the Alliance tag in the API. It's back on track now! |

some complaints: some hi sec systems use hard to see colors and the symbols are small. Also what the heck is up with some 0.4 systems colored green as in hi sec?

These sound like comments from the first version (blue cover), where I missed a query to check color vs. security status. Can you name some specific systems?
The 2nd version (orange/red colour on sale now) fixed this with additional database checks before going to print.

I received my orange edition yesterday, started to "work with it" for several hours - just cant get enough of it. the maps aint just a fan article, but a solid peace of "immersion" into Eve.
The other thing I did beside my map-study was to set up a 2nd monitor, to be able to a) fly safe, b) reading the map and c) looking from time to time to the legend as long as i am not use to and to later to have the universe-map "at hand".
maybe You will think of 1-2 small "inlets" to the next edition - small seperate, "loose" cards with the universe and the legend? meanwhile i ll help myself with selfmade printouts, carefully laminated ;-)
funny idea with the stickers to update outposts
one last remark: the in game minimaps are still beta? unfortunately i cant actually make use of them, cuz they are way too small! I am playing on a high-rez 30inch display - and as the maps seem not be "scaleable" - they have the size of stamps. I can read the "map-title", Sinq Liason e.g., the rest is a highly detailed "abstract" of a lot of lines and a yellow square. Any plans for a kind of "zoom"?

Thanks for your feedback Camino, I'm really pleased that you like it :) Separate card for the legend/universe should be easy enough to do by changing the order of legend/index/universe map, so Universe/Legend can be pulled out no problem.
The mini-map I could add a "big/small" option to. The idea was really to make it quick to find the location on the printed maps - so just look at the cluster of lines/shapes and then see it quickly on the printed detail map.
Do you need more rez, or is it ok if it's still abstract?

Milady Steele,
the idea of a flip-out page for the legend and/or universe overview map for the printed map-book is even greater (instead of a loose extra card/page).
For the in game mini map: if thats the idea of getting an ingame-abstract (didnt came up to my mind) as a quick reference for the printed map - fine, cool, perfect.
As I stated i can read the "title" of the actual map/region i am in. And the actual system (name) including page and grid is listed (for convenience) in the top line of the minimap window. Thats perfect - mea culpa (that i couldnt "read" the mini map better before, i thought i had to interact "more" with it).
That given, your map-tool "performs" as good as i can think of!
sincerely

I have the Blue Cover of EvE Maps and I've only really just started to use it (had the maps for nearly a year i think) due to my EvE time being on and off while going thru some life stuff.
Just wondering is there a huge amount of changes to the newer version (orange) or am i Better off waiting till after march when all this new stuff is going to happen and you'll end up doing another v3 of EvE maps? (or you looking at a yearly thing with EvE maps)
I know EvE maps isn't a huge amount of money (price of a hardback book in the UK) but if only a little amount has been updated, then it loses it value for money appeal.
Don't get me wrong, EvE maps is a wonderful tool and a brilliant book, I may not have used it as much as some people probably have but I can see the time and effort that's gone into it :) so do keep up the good work :) ______________

I ordered this and I like it. The legend takes some getting used to, but is logical and consistently applied. The maps themselves look beautiful and it is all bound nicely in a close-wire binding.
I am concerned about leafing through the maps in the midst of gameplay, which is different from when I flip through the book with clean hands in pristince conditions. So I wanted to see if I could undo the wire and laminate the pages, but no go. So for now I will scan the maps and laminate new pages.
I would pay a little bit more (just a little more - don't gouge us please) if there was a "you can flip through these maps with oily pizza fingers all you want" laminated edition

These maps are impressive. Easy to read, understand, and navigate. Something like this really does open up the universe to you. You can see into your enemies backyard without ever visiting.

There are a few changes that make it easier to use (Index at the back, better contrast for low-lighting conditions, small error corrections, and more "off region" systems) and also it comes with a low-sec poster. There are only a few small and insignificant changes to the map.
The Blue-Cover original from April 2008 still does the job and you can download the index and print your own here. The Grid-references are also the same, so you can use the in-game minimap
My advice is wait till you play EVE some more and then decide if you really get into it again or have poor lighting at your desk. The poster should be available separately, but CCP store is still soon(tm) on creating the order option. |

I'll talk to the publisher about it. We initially investigated laminating all the pages, but it increases the cost dramatically - if you have access to a laminating machine (eg. via work etc.) then its probably cheaper to do it that way (since the added cost is 0 from a personal perspective). |
